I think for 8 out of 12 rounds he was yes. In that fifth round he took some hefty body shots that really, really hurt him, so from then on he did what he does best, controlld the range, and yeah that meant focusing on the head more than usual. He was still snatchin that body like he always does, but only sporadically, tonight we had the unusual situation where the head was easier for Hatton to hit than the body, so what did he do? He was keeping himself much safer than usual, and was much less of a heart-stopper to watch, I ain't used to that shit! He adapted, and he certainly wasn't HEADHUNTING fuck me, I thought the day someone said "He's a headhunter," about Ricky Hatton was the day the sky turned purple, and I became tee-total. :o

A great body puncher doesn't pick and choose which fights he wants to work the body. Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar De La Hoya, those guys dig left hooks to the body of their opponents every single fight.
Hatton just spent 12 rounds throwing left hooks and right crosses, while paying no attention at all to left jabs or left hooks to the body.
He is a flawed fighter.

I agree. Ricky made some smart decisions in there tonight... Urango like you said was rock solid , Urango stayed very tight defensively, not throwing much and giving Ricky the opportunities needed to Blitz his man... Ricky played his hand the only way he could have tonight. the slight staleness was Urango's inability to get off. or make a real attempt for fear of being countered. . Ricky cured Urango of the body attack , by launching his own arsenal the very next round.. Urango thought to himself " the hell with that I am going to stay true to tight defense" and that’s it. O0 :coolclick: by the way

116-115 Castillo

119-109 Hatton

As for the scores for each fighters performance.

Hatton score - C was a C+,B for the first 5 or six rounds then turned into a clutch fest. Didn't impress with what he said he need "a MASSIVE" showing in las vegas. Didn't ever hurt Urango who looked slow ,plodding and one dimensional.
Hatton didn't do anything here really,otherthan show a bit of a different side of his ability for a while. to really set people up for a big Castillo fight.

Urango score - D very poor outing for him. ANy fantasy about him being a world class fighter or legitamate belt holder were"popped" tonight.
Slow plodding one armed. Very poor. Did have one good round when he went to teh body and had Hatton confused and maybe even hurt. WHY didn't he stick with that? press the body attack? he looked horrible

Castillo...C-, did not impress at all. squeaked out a win bythe very narrowest of margins. Who wants to see him fight again after that?
not me. Looked VERY tited in the 8th and got 2 breaks by complaining about low blow and then a thumb in the eye to check Ngoudjo's glove.

Ngoudjo B+ ,maybe because people wern't expecting as much? he looked great! fast and a great jab! had peopel very worried for a while esp Emanual Steward. Don't know why he went away from the short closed up head attack that had him winningthe fight. Wentto the body and seemed to letthe fight kinda slip away.
The only real bright shining star tonight and the guy who benifited the most BY FAR! Even though he lost! The crowd booed the decision like mad all tho' I thought it was fair. Poor work,and lack of direction and advice from his corner may have cost him this fight. He got hit and hurt to the body and didn't seem to know what to do. afterleading the fight away from teh head downstairs.

Granted he's flawed, but who ain't?. The wires are crossed here Pea, there's no need, Hatton is not a headhunter, you know it, I know it, just admit it. If you do think Hatton is a head hunter, watch some more fights, or even better watch this one again. I haven't seen compubox figures but I would bet that Hatton landed at least 100 body shots in this fight.

Oh, I'd like to add, I think Tony Weeks did a spectacularly good job as referee in this fight.

We all are flawed to some degree. ! It's just who is going to be able to capitalize on that flaw? Ricky more the compensates for his short comings by shear will and determination factor. very physical an usually rips it the body.. this Urango guy stayed very tight and left little to attack... got to be careful with the guys that have long arms and are able to bring the elbows in tight, talk about sore hands... catch the tip of an elbow and you think troubles !

not really 100% true about the body attack. while a body puncher will try and set that up as much as possible, you need some cooperation from you opponent to some degree.. a guy as cagy as Urango and as physically strong as Urango did not present a lot of clean opportunities.. and the way Urango was using his elbows tonight to protect that body voided out that punch.. like a say,. catch the tip of an elbow while you ripping to the body and see what happens. ! . O0

He didn't work the body effectively in my opinion. That by itself wouldn't be that much of a problem.
But he also does not work the jab at all. He doesn't have explosive punching power. He is short and has short arms. All these things add up.
I don't see anything that Hatton does really, really well other than being aggressive and throwing a decent amount of punches.
I think his flaws and lack of explosive weapons will be exposed by an elite fighter. Castillo at his advanced age may not be the guy, but someone will be.

Ricky looked weaker then he usually does. 180 to 139 is never good ! I mean seriously.. he needs to stop that shit.. 7 to 10 lbs over your fighting weight is exceptable walk around weight .. Especially for a fighter at this level and at his age… that shit really plays havoc with you as you age. Trying to make weight with that variance really taxes the body . You can get away with it in your teens and twenties. But as we age.. It factors in huge . ! I think if Ricky can get more discipline with the weight, he will be the explosive Ricky that fought Tszyu.

Ricky Hatton is garbage.
