However,I still stand by my original statement. Jones was the bigger man and it showed. Against B Hop and JC in particular,he would not have as much of an advantage. I agree his speed was good,in single shots. I'm pretty confident in saying that Calzaghe would totally outwork him and win an easy UD. JC fights 3 minutes of every round,Jones doesn't. I'd love to see Jones beat up B Hop but I think Hop is too wiley for Jones at this stage in their careers,he would pick off Jone single shots and would counter Jones. I have zero interest in that fight,it would be a snooze fest imo.
As for Tito,he was game but he was ultimately over matched. Where does he go from here? Who knows. I don't think his power is effective at this weight and I don't think he can hang with the elite 168 pounders nor make 160. I would say retire but I know he won't.
Id like to see a return too .
So did you enjoy the fight last night Gamo ? I thought it was too one sided to be enjoyable

Unfortunately my friend,I can't say I overly enjoyed it either. It was...alright.That sums it up perfectly. First few rounds were competetive, next 9 were one sided. Jones could do as he wanted, when he wanted and Tito could do nothing to stop him. Jones wasn't interested in the KO,Tito didn't have the power to hurt Jones, things became too samey, round after round.
I didn't see any real fire from either fighter.
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Yeah and I think Tito cant be blamed for that . Once he got dropped he didnt trade with Jones after taht but Jones though was easily in control . It would have been nice therefore if he took 1 or two chances especially cuz b4 the fight he said a points win wasnt acceptable .
Jones seemed to have his buzz back thats been missing since the Ruiz fight . Maybe he knew he could afford the swagger we saw cuz he seemed intent on showing off throughout the fight .

To be fair,Jones ha salways been a showman. In what was one of the worst fights I have ever seen in mylife, the third Tarver fight,he was showing off more than he was throwing punches. He was certainly more confident but then he should be,Tito started at WW and fought no higher than 160,Jones has fought at HW.
Jones said that but he was doing nothing more than hyping the fight. I didn't envisage a KO at all.It was an ok fight.A big payday for both though,I'd like to see what kind of numbers it done? Anyone have any estimates?

He's done in his weight class.
Couldn't or didn't? ::**
He wanted to put on a show (that was pretty obvious...) and probably respected tito to much to finish him off. At one point he backed tito into a corner and started throwing... could of caught him but he literally leaped away from tito and let him out the corner...
I'm guessing you missed that... whether you were looking at the time or not you obviously didn't see it.

I totally disagree i thought it was a good fight, and a lot better than everyone expected. Jones stood toe to toe and it made for an exciting fight. Even when Jones took over Tito would bravely try and fire back, Tito's left hook to the body was his money punch. And i disagree with your last comment as well. I think both fighters showed plenty of fire, Jones has been very gun shy lately, but he come out last night and showed a good range of offensive skills and comeback when he was losing the fight. Even Tito when he was starting to lose a grip on the fight didn't get discouraged and would still fire back.
Tito can easily go back down to 160 and be a force, and Jones should for certain take on the winner of Hopkins vs Calzaghe. I think people are being bit harsh on Tito and Jones. Just remember what we was all saying about how boring the fight would be and etc. But both men gave us an exciting fight even though they are both well past there prime big props from me for both fighters i certainly enjoyed it very much.

Put the fight into perspective, look at the opponent, the weight etc etc. Let Jones fight someone at 175,a tough opponent, see how he does then and then we can say he is a match for Cal and BHop.
As for Tito,he lost but sounds as if he didn't look too bad.I still don't think he can fight at this weight against the guys in the 168 pound division,so I'm not really syre where he goes from here. I'm totally shocked that Roman lost?!
For the love of me I cant really understand what guys have to do to get a break around here with some of you... Roy fought a great fight showed excellent defense that wasnt predicated on reflexes as well as not being gunshy
Every last one of you threw dirt on Jones and said he was done, he was weight drained ETC.. He comes out tonite shows out proves the naysayers wrong and really makes a splash and its just not good enough... Bernard Hopkins is a joke who throws 5 punches around and only 2 are legal, and we are getting way ahead of ourselves because we think Roy can beat him.. Cant really agree with that logic
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
It's good to read some of the positive reviews on the fight (and the fighters) from some of my fellow saddo'ers. When I chime in, it sounds biased (and probably is, to be honest... LOL). But I try to remain objective.
Again, I thought Trinidad fought 10 times better than he did against Winky Wright, probably the worst fight of Tito's career. And about the size difference, I know some people disagree, but I still feel that it's too much to ask for a fighter that has never fought above 160 to impose his power over a fighter that is a natural light-heavy and has even bulked up to fight at heavy..... regardless of the fact that both came in at the same weight.
And I must say...... DAMN! .... that RJJ can sure take punches to the body. That was one of the things that most impressed me about the fight. Tito did the right thing... going to the body hard and often. But Roy didn't seem flustered by that at all.

I have to agree Tito looked awful against Wright, and the funny is Wright done nothing great at all. He threw the same basic combo all night and Tito couldn't seem to adjust, plus he didn't go to the body at all which is the key against fighting someone like Wright something Vargas done very well.

I know Wright is known in boxing circles to be a superb defensive fighter, but I think had Tito fought him like he fought RJJ, it would've been a totally different fight. I'm not saying Trinidad would've necessarily won (maybe, maybe not)... but it would've been VASTLY different.

Hey my friend!! Finally we could meet in the forum. I agree, that perhaps Tito could do better against Winky fighting like yesterday. Tito started good, but Jones proved to be too strong for him, when Jones hurt Tito. And, Tito could not damage Jones :'(

Hey PRP! Good to see you. I felt Tito did what he could against Jones. He was busy, and he went to the body early and often. But power wasn't effective against Jones, who's used to getting hit by much bigger guys. Roy's resistance to body shots impressed me. I wasn't aware of that side of him. When Tito saw his power wasn't fazing Jones, and Jones put him down the first time, he may have become a bit discouraged. But he kept on firing till the end.

CC #1680, Ice. Thanks for the RBR
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
I thought Trinidad sort of fazed Roy later on, but like I've said before Roy used to have a really good chin before coming back down(knocked down once and partially due to the group being slippery). I think that Roy would have to find some way to get into better shape if he wants to fight at the top level because for the most part if you have good enough conditioning you will regain that footspeed, he should get a spy in Hopkins training camp or whatever because he needs to learn how to train so that he will be in full form when he fights next.

You're over exaggerating. Just because some thought Jones may be weight drained didn't mean they thought he would lose. I certainly did'nt,check the prediciton contest if you don't believe me. I'm merely pointing that just because Jones beat a 2 year retired, never fought higher than 170 pounds Tito does not mean he can beat the 5 punch per round,2 legal Hopkins. That is no logic right there. I'd love love Jones to beat Hopkins,as I stated in a later post on this thread but I don't see it happening.

See?
Bernard would control the pace and would avoid Jones shots, which are fast but 1 shot at a time, easy for a defensive master like B Hop to defend against. I also said I didn't want to see the fight because it would be a snoozefest.Jones looked decent and won a fight he was supposed to win v a smaller guy, doesn't mean he can go and beat a defensive wizard like B Hop,who even though throws very little and is a dirty, dirty fighter, always manages to pull out the W.
