You are right :coolclick: How can you not like Miranda????? He is tough as nails crowd pleasing personable fighter, who is determined to leave it all in the ring if he had to, he fights with courage and heart.. Oh!! and a Thunderbolt of a right hand ;D.... Miranda has been growing on me little by little after the Eastman fight, I can tell you this kid is in my top 5 for favorites...
Now see...I like Miranda...but Green was the superior boxer in technique.
He just did what many others would do...he lost his head after getting clocked & tasting that power. I just don't feel so sure about Miranda as a whole.
Gotta say I agree 100%. IMO Miranda is like Sam Peter. There is so much power he is always dangerous but he lacks that technique needed. I also think that just Like Peter. If he developed some boxing skills he would be a dangerous dangerous man....Guys that hit like those two with some ability??....SCARY!!!
Hell they don't have to become tacticians...Just straighten out some shots a little bit more patience and improve on the defense....all easily fixable

:coolclick: on the Sam Peter comparison.
There again...Peter improved in just shy of a 4 month period of time with the Toney rematch. I wouldv'e hoped Miranda would do the same thing.
Maybe he will.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: The Cotto & Miranda Show
Yeah I like the Peter comparision a lot more then I like the Lacy comparision. I just don't see much Lacy in Miranda....
Just watched the fight for the first time. I thought it was a 12 round fight. Green disappointed me in just how unwilling he was to engage Miranda who was there to be hit. He would hit him once, get something back and then cover up or hold. I didn't expect much from Green but I at least didn't expect to find any shortage of heart. And I really don't feel he gave it his all that fight.

IMO that is something I put more on the trainers and management team then the fighter themselves...IMO it is a trainers job to fix things the fighters job to learn....

Well thats what happens when your mouth writes checks your ass can not cash....I don't think Green realized exactly how hard Miranda hit....At times it looked as though he was looking for one big shot but there was that fear of being caught...
It is a lot easier to say what your going to do and it is a lot easier have all these predictions in your head planned out then it is to carry them out...
Prime Example of a situation like that is George Foreman...He looks so slow and his punches look like they would be so easy to avoid but all of a sudden once in the ring...You can't help but get hit by these slow thudding shots...

Goes back to what Mike Tyson said once "Everybody has a plan till they get punched in the mouth!"

Then you must not know what your talking about.Cotto steps forward and throws with his head down..and urkal tried to slide under and tie up with him. That is not intentioinal!Ask any boxer or trainer. You say that cotto has improved everytime???He has gotten rocked in just about all of his last fights except the urkal fight. He continues to take big shots...Torres,Corley,Malignaggi ALL had him dazed. His whole game plan is to weaken his opponent with body shots...and it just didnt happen in this fight.
Watch the fight again. I've watched it twice tonight. Urkal butted him 3 times & if they weren't intentional then I don't know what were. After he & Urkal clashed & he got cut...Urkal came in with his head everytime that Cotto closed the gap.
You not seeing that...I'd be just as curious as to what fight you were watching.
Cotto aint perfect...but he's got room to grow & he does improve with time & each outting.
The proof is in the pudding. He's beaten everyone that beat him in the am's & he's moved up in weight & continued to work & win.

I posted my response in the wrong spot.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: The Cotto & Miranda Sho
I thought Cotto fought a bit of an immature fight, he didn't look focused before the fight and he let Urkal frustrate him too easily. Thought the ref was a bit of a clown, every time they got shoulder to shoulder he'd tell Urkal not to use the head, Urkal was leaning down to protect his body and Cotto fights with his chin tucked and his head down, I only saw one butt that might have been intentional, at the end of I think the 8th round after Cotto got in a left hook to Urkal's back. Even if Urkal was butting him intentionally, Cotto's gotta keep his focus better.
I've become a Cotto fan but he can't underestimate fighters and he's gotta keep his head in the fight , it didn't really matter in that fight but against an elite guy he's gotta stay focused no matter what happens.
As for Miranda, he is limited but he's got a fighter's mentality, on the other hand, its funny to watch a guy who acts so cocky but really is totally unsure of himself. Green just refused to take any chances, there were so many opportunities to counter with a right after Miranda would throw that wild, lead left hook and he just refused to. You could tell, at the end of the eight round after he knocked Miranda down, he told his corner something like "I can do this", like it just dawned on him that maybe he could beat Miranda. That's not a confident fighter.

Olympian904 you are talking out the side of your neck now.
Show me or anyone else here the footage of Malignaggi dazing Cotto.
Now getting back to the head butts, I will post all the times this German dude was charging with his head. He was using it as a weapon. Intentionally pushing cottos face with it.
Don't tell me this is standard practice. This guy was even bouncing off the ropes and lunging forward with his head as a battering ram.
In the mean time, find me the clip where Cotto is dazed by Malignaggi. I have the fight. Tell me what round/time and I will post it.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: The Cotto & Miranda Show
OumaFan is 100% right.
DannyG..wtf?He never charged with his head.Cotto takes a hard step in and fires with his head down.Urkal was just trying to come under it and tie up.I agree with Oumafan that there was one intentional one after cotto Intentionally punched him in the back.It amazes me what some people on here say...b/c obviously someones a Cotto groupie. We have way to many Larry Merchants on here.Cotto got frustrated about the accidental headbutt and continued to cry to the ref...The same way Green got frustrated and tried to cry to the ref.post your cottovsmalignaggi fight on youtube and i'll flip through it.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: The Cotto & Miranda Show
Oh I have to post the Malignaggi fight for you?
I asked you to tell me what round it is so I can find it and you don't know? I wonder why.
Right now I am working on the Urkal head butts.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: The Cotto & Miranda Sho
I've heard Cotto being dazed by Paulie, when was this? I honestly don't remember seeing it. I agree though,Cotto works the body better than anyone around BUT,he should not forget to go the head. I think he may have been unmotivated for this fight. He has already stated,he wants the big fights.

I am going to make you look real stupid after I post this fight footage of Urkal lunging forward like a goat over and over again with his head. Should I insult you in the clip?
Like you insulted me? You bet I am. I will dedicate the video to you and I will add my insults right into the clip.
The ref was right there and he did his job very well.
You sit there and listen to old azz commentators. They are commentators not referees. I hate when people watch a fight and are influenced by commentators. Sometimes it's just better to hit the mute button. IMO.
In all fairness to Lenox Lewis, he was seeing the head lunging too. I wonder why Merchant and Lampley were not catching it. Are they as old as you or are you as old as them? Were they both drinking out of the same cup? Where you drinking last night or do you suffer from old timers disease like Merchant and Lampley?
I am still waiting for the clip of Malignaggi dazing cotto. Here is a hint, why not search in the 13th or 14th round, I think it's somewhere in between those two. LOL
