The simple beauty of the original Predator was it was actually scary (for a young teenager) watching a bunch of elite killing machine soldiers picked off one-by-one and reduced to terrified mental wrecks by an unseen force.
That's the problem with Hollywood these days. Everything is jam packed with nonsense! Directors who are good get the most out of a little. And again, the more the monster is seen the less afraid of it the audience becomes.
Less is more. Build your characters. Don't show the monster too much. Know how the monster can build heat (get the audience to hate it). And for the love of God, just because you CAN cgi something it doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Totally agree, I'm a big fan of the Cloverfield movie, some don't like the found footage style but I really like that movie and you don't see much of the monster until near the end, and then only briefly.

Loved that Arnie rotated some of those guys into his other movies. Billy had an all time classic scene and it was him getting easily wasted!
Of all things ended up watching 'Papillion' and 'Dudes' ;D with the ol man.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) 8.2/10
It was better than I expected. I found the first one to be mediocre, but this sequel had a much more interesting and complex story. The Oscar it won for Best Achievement in Visual Effects was well deserved.

Where the Truth Lies (2005) 5.3/10
Several pretty women and a very good actor in Colin Firth made it watchable, but the story was predictable and annoyingly tedious by times.

Predator (1987) 8.3/10
Last night I re-watched one of my old favorite movies Predator. It's very entertaining, as it builds up to a great climax in the last 15 minutes.

I would have figured you were watching Christmas movies by now!
So I started my Xmas season off with MST3K: Santa Claus Conquers The Martians
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Creed which was ok, liked the camera angles during the boxing which was new, funny scenes about the generation gap and good reminders of the classic Rocky films at certain times.
Now I can watch Creed 2 when it comes on TV in 2 years time.

You get to see Ward being beaten up.

Ward has not been beaten since he was 12. :)

He does in this on, but they use the whole "3 years to late" tag to justify it.
Watched the Equalizer 2. Was pretty good.
Also watched Venom, I quite liked it.

Hereditary - 2018
The best horror movie I've seen in years.
No bullshit Cliche jumpy scenes here, proper disturbing scenes and storyline.
Wont spoil it but there are some seriously twisted scenes in this film and its just a brilliant movie.
Absolute must see for any Horror fan.
An instant classic 😎

Welcome to Curiosity (2018 ) 8/10
This is an underrated independent film. The reason it received some bad reviews on the IMDB is because it's too complicated for some people, and keeps switching from scene to scene, especially in the first half. However, I liked the originality and the complexity, every scene and all four story lines make perfect sense if one watches until the very end. There are some interesting twists at the end, for which there are earlier clues. Some very good but lesser-known British actors in this one, including a couple of pretty women with acting talent who I would like to see in future movies.

The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) 9/10
Back in the 1930s and 1940s, there were more films with heart-warming stories. This uplifting movie was the #1 Box Office success of 1945, and it's easy to see why it won an Oscar and was nominated for 7 more.

Danton (1983) 8.3/10
This film provides an excellent history lesson. During the Reign of Terror in early 1794, having already executed most of the aristocrats who were not able to flee France, Maximilien Robespierre and the Committee for Public Safety turned on other revolutionaries in order to consolidate power. This film has some very good actors, I was especially impressed by Boguslaw Linda's accurate portrayal of the bloodthirsty young Louis Antoine de Saint-Just, who was even more extreme than his close friend Robespierre.
