Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
Lewis caught Bruno with a peach of a punch and won not because Bruno was tired but because Bruno's inability to hold and survive when he was hurt.
Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
The Bruno fight was one of the WORST performances in Lennox Lewis' career. Lennox got lazy in more than his fair share of fights and in the Bruno fight he was lazy the entire fight until he landed that punch.
Just my opinion though
Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
Bruno had a great left hand jab and he plainted his feet really good when unloaing big heavy shots.Bruno was the first heavyweight pro to rock Tyson when their met.If you watch it i believe Bruno rocks Tyson to the core with a great left hand.Tyson was surerly trouble for a bit and if Bruno had longer in that particular round he would KO'd or stopped Tyson.Watch it again and you'll know what i mean.If only!!!!;D

Haha slightly optimistic about the affect of that ounch mate. Bonecrusher and Tucker (who rocked him worse than anybody before Douglas) hurt him before Bruno did

It was a good punch but the moment lasted only a second and Tyson was firing back almost immediately, anyone else would have been flattened by the punch but Tyson had a very good chin back then.
Yvonne you sound like Harry Carpenter.
Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
I would not say it is far fetched to think Bruno would have won......Lennox had yet to reach his peak when he faced Bruno and if you watched the fight it was a horrible performance he gave against Bruno...He was impatient and throwing punches with reckless abandon.....Even when he finished Bruno he was not all that accurate....
At their peaks Bruno was no where near the class of a prime Lennox Lewis....Bruno for some reason had problems in the really big fights of his career...I don't know if it was stamina or nerves that caused stamina issues for him but he always seemed a bit over anxious and liked to bust his whole wad in the first rounds.....

WTF are you talking about?...Lewis was stopped twice McCall and Rahman...In both fights he came in out of shape and tried to be cocky...It cost him both times.....Lennox had a great chin...anyone who says different has obviously not seen the majority of his career...If you see the Mercer, Tua fights alone he took big time punches...It had little to do with McCall and his skill set or Lennox having a glass chin
Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
If Lewis had been lazier with Shannon Briggs he would have lost that fight too, I think that left hook that almost floored him woke him up. The same with Vitali's right cross in the 2nd round of their fight woke Lewis up once he recovered.
For being such a great fighter Lennox Lewis had some really lazy/careless moments in the ring and for a lesser fighter they would have certainly been disasterous.

Agreed...I will be the first to admit...as big a fan as I am/was of Lewis he had the tendency to be full of himself and like you said in the Briggs/Vitali fights those moments could have been a disaster......Those losses would have totally changed his place in the HW divisions all time rankings
Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
I think comparatively speaking Wladimir fights more "by the book" than Lennox Lewis did. Maybe that's why Lewis was considered more fun to watch by most people.
I will say it's a testament to how great Lewis was to be able to recover so quickly and even win on an "off night" like he had vs Bruno. Being able to work through that kind of adversity makes fighters great. For example Marciano and "The Punch" vs Walcott came at a point when Rocky was almost stopped the previous round. That moment alone added a lot to Marciano's legacy.

I know many people find Wlad boring but IMO he is an exciting guy that is meant for pure boxing fans...I mean put it into perspective...
He is a big big HW with brutal power...I have heard former opponents say his jab is like other guys straight rights....
He has a shakey chin so you never know what could end the night..
When he does finish a guy he does it in exciting fashion most of the time unless they get broken down and quit.....
I actually preferred the Wlad that was around before he lost to Sanders....He threw his punches with perfect style...he was a freaking text book....
He just had the European style that was made fore the amateurs that often was kind of blah but the whole aura about him was exciting to watch....A big reason why he overshadowed Vitaly early on

yeah he would just fall apart.. he did have stamina issues but watching him hang on against McCall and willing him to survive was painful.
still can;t belive i picked him to beat Tyson in the rematch :embarassed:

TBH I didn't think Tyson was not going to get by him so easily in the rematch either...Tyson was a shell of his former self...Bruno had been on a decent streak and he seemed confident....BUT up until the Holyfield fights many guys seemed to have what it took to get by Mike yet they crumbled as well
Re: Would Frank Bruno have beat lennox Lewis if frank never ran out of stamina
Think the stamina was fine as he was coming in,had Lewis on ropes and bringing punches. The eyes closed shot by Lewis took his senses and his legs followed.Helluva shot.

He still throws his punches with good technical skill, but that style that Sdunek trained him in was exactly the way Boytsov fights today, it's an action packed style, lots of power punches but you leave yourself open for counters. The problem with the style is that it didn't get Wladimir to use his physical advantages when appropriate.
If Wlad still had his same old style I think there are a number of fights that would have either ended quicker (Rahman, Chagaev, Ibragimov) or Wlad would have lost (Thompson [he would have tired out by the 12th] and maybe Sam Peter...although if Wlad poured on the punches he may have stopped Sam)
I always wondered how Bruno would have done vs some different fighters of his era: Bowe, Holyfield, Moorer, Mercer, Morrison, and Ruddock. Doubt Frank wins many of those but he would have made them interesting
