Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
I can't wait to see them fight. It doesn't matter if there interest in the fight for Floyd at all. In fact, if we really want to see the fight we have to make it seem like Floyd will have no problem walking through Hatton. That way we can get his courage up. When has Floyd fought the fights we wanted to see anyway?

Courage? LOL.
To answer your last question, people had been calling for PBF Judah for years, and I remember tons of people on this very forum saying that Judah was the one guy who could and would beat Floyd. PBF got that fight set before Judah blew it against Baldomir, but then Judah loses in the meantime and people get upset because Floyd went ahead with the fight anyway, as if he knew Judah was going to lose in between. Throw in Castillo twice (the second time an immediate rematch, just like "we wanted to see") Corrales (who many predicted would win), and a few others, and the result is a resume far more impressive than Hatton's one fight versus Tsu, two fights against short-term paper champs and a bunch of tomato cans in Europe.
If you need more, consider that while Floyd's gettting set for one or the other of the bigger, stronger ODH or Margarito, Hatton's talking about going down in weight to fight Floyd's leftovers from years ago in Castillo/Corrales.
Or maybe you were joking? Because it was pretty funny. :D

Just like Gatti/Hatton will sell more then PBF/Hatton.....you see?
Two sluggers will sell more then 2 boxers ALL DAY LONG.
We talk about these things all day long. Only Trainers want to see Boxers....
Jesus Christ some of you guys aren't smart at all. Castillo and Corrales had the greatest slugfests ever. Tell me why their second fight only had 225,000 buys. Because people knew what they were getting and there was no intrigue. Plus, neither of the guys had ever truly headlined a PPV. Hatton is undefeated and WBA welterweight champ of the world, but he won't be a PPV draw in the US. Why? Because people don't wanna buy slugfests, people want to buy drama. PBF-Gatti sold because it was "Villian vs Hero" and "Apollo Creed vs Rocky" all rolled into one, most people knew Gatti didn't have a shot, but bought to see it anyway, PBF-Judah sold because PBF was on every station saying that he was gonna knock Judah out and most boxing people knew they're history, it was intriguing, Jones Jr vs Tarver III sold because people wanted to see if RJ was back or if Tarver really shot Jones's career down, Mosley-Vargas sold because it was basically a "winner gets back his old glory" type fight, ODLH-Mayorga sold because Mayorga is a wildman and people want to see if ODLH can get back his glory. There is more to PPV than just boxing. Hatton vs Gatti would not be a great PPV draw because both guys are fairly boring, but it would be a pretty good fight. Hatton vs PBF would be so overblown by HBO, they would have Countdown to PBF vs Hatton and everything, that would be a fight that sold 500K-700K buys on PPV. Hatton vs Gatti would be lucky to get 200K buys. If I want to watch a slugfest, I can turn on ESPN classic, if I want to watch an intriguing matchup of different styles and personalities, I'll buy it on PPV.
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
BTW, Gatti PBF did over 300K, well over HBO's expectations for both Floyd and Gatti's first time as PPV headliner.
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
Floyd's fights I always wanted to see: vs Castillo (did twice)
vs Corley (did)
vs Judah (did)
vs Corrales (did)
vs Gatti (did)
etc..etc... (I mean I can still going on and on)
what really WAS the handicap in Floyd's fan appeal is what he used to do OUTSIDE the ring and all of his bashing, mouthing and trash-talking, plus his cockiness and arrogance. Didn't Ali had all of this obscure "attributes" too? Leonard also portrayed great deal of the same; Floyd is upgrading his PPV sales lately and is maturing into a household name not just for the local media but worldwide.
I'm sure the Golden Boy is strongly attracted to a mega showdown with PBF. This fight is to generate more revenue and meaning to even casual fightgoers as well as hardcore diehard boxing fans around.
Hatton is taylor made for the European "wave" and was wisely managed to endure in that soil not beyond those bundaries. I can see clear factors working against the Ricster if ever to fight in Vegas or The Garden. How you folks envision Steve Smoger or Cortéz, to name few of them, if they ever set to put the order in a Hatton fight at the MGM in Sin City? What kind of rush Hatton's gonna get to increase his stamina drive if ever to fight, let say Margarito, Coralles or Castillo, inside of a hostile pro-mexican crowd in Nevada or portorrican holligans in the Garden against Cotto?
In my modest opinion, would be wise for Hatton going back to Warren's nest and continue doing his domestic epical wrestlings loved by his followers.
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
At the moment, as it stands... no I don't want to see this fight. I do want Hatton to redeem himself though and make me want to see this fight because I was so damn excited before!
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
Woah, feedback in general seems to be pretty negative but let us not forget people,Floyd fought a Sharmba who lost a couple of fights before fightinh im,he fought Zab who lost 3 of 6 so I don't think we can rule out Floyd fighting Hatton, agains the question being whether it makes money.
Don't you people think that it would make for an exciting encounter? To be honest,I still think Hatton would do well....just no where near as well as I thought. What if he does not give Collazo a rematch? How do you see a Hatton Gatti fight going? I still think he would beat Gatti comfortably.

CC, you are the first person to actually reply about that. I mean size, skill, and everything else were in Robinson's favor and Basilio still won the first fight and the second fight was just as close!

Thanks. I'm an ESPN Classic Boxing junkie, and I watched the Ringside on Ray Robinson. The interview/discussion with an wisecracking old Basilio was great. No logic or reason can explain the result of the fight, it just came out that way. Basilio is a great analogy to Hatton. They were both stocky, strong guys about 5'6" with great workrate and pitbull mentalities. SRR was the greatest ever, but the pressure got to him. By the end, it seems like he just couldn't believe that Basilio was still coming.
The potential for Basilio/Robinson is exactly why I want to see this fight. Styles make fights, this is exactly the kind of style contrast that makes for all-time great bouts.
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
For sure bring it on 8)
Hatton looked crap against Collazo so that is because of one of 3 things
1) he is crap ((but past fights cancel that out))
2) he is just crap at Welter ((future fights will tell us that if he carries on))
3) Collazo is alot better than he is getting credit for ((where he goes from here will tell us that i mean look how he handled hatton))
and thats it in a nutshell folks
Truth i'd love to see Mayweather Vs Collazo as there is no way of knowing how Mayweather would have delt with a TRUE welter like Collazo his only fight at welter was against Judah who IMO is a great fighter but not a true welter thats why he was coming off a loss ;) and he still gave Floyd trouble early on ;)
So for me Hatton Vs Mayweather is still a great fight at Light Welter or Welter.
look at Joe Calzaghe and Lacy... Lacy looked the better of the 2 running up to it because of Joe's crap showing leading up to the clash and we all know what happened on the night.
this is boxing folks and that is why we love the this sport... dont count Hatton out just yet ;)
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
I still think Ricky has the tools to trouble Mayweather. One thing that didn't seem as effective at 147 for Ricky was his body shots. At 140 that bodywork will break anyone down but not at welterweight, hard to believe the 7 pounds makes a difference but it does. After the fight Manny Steward was asked if Hatton really wants to go onto the Floyd Mayweathers & all that jazz. He said yes, in no way will he have the same kind of trouble with someone who is not a natural welterweight like himself. If anything this should make Floyd wanna fight Hatton, lets just pray it's at 140. While neither of them havn't looked their best at this weight, Ricky does seem more uncomfortable than Floyd.
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
Hell Yeah i still want this fight. I think Hatton needs another fight tho before attemping cracking PBF.

More like Mayweather Coralles I'd say.
Re: Do YOU still want to see Hatton v Floyd??
sorry mate but mayweather hatton would be nothing like mayweather corrales. hatton on a bad night (like saturday) would still do way more than corrales did on that night. nothing alike.
hell yeah i want to see this fight. clash of the titans.
