Re: What Great Fighters Were KO'd? Not TKO'd, But KO'd?
The Ref could have counted to 10,000 over Joe Walcott.
Re: What Great Fighters Were KO'd? Not TKO'd, But KO'd?
Ruben Oliveras going out against Herrera was as messy as they come. Cervantes taking 10 from Pryor? Argue greatness but Terry Norris out vs Brown was something.
Sometimes the 'tko' can be more brutal in that a ref immedialy waves it off seeing no need to count. Where as some 'ko's can see a guy hitting ten as he struggles up. Duran v Hearns?...think he could have counted to twenty if not waved.

Funny that since this thread was made there had been none noteworthy until Pacquiao got wrecked last month. That really will be a historical KO, Manny is the only ATG other than Roy Jones to suffer a bad knockout in many years. I guess that speaks more to their having only been a few really "great" fighters active, but still. Manny isn't chinny and he'd never seen the canvas in 36 rounds against Marquez, it was a monster punch.

Donaire's Ko against Moniel comes to mind

Good call by Purist back in the day, even though it was a TKO.

Unless your name is Marlon Brando, you don't get to talk like this.
Slap yourself in the face, then continue.

Nice list, obviously with the frequently grueling fights old time fighters would endure it was more common they would simply get caught or come in to the ring ill prepared for that opponent etc. I don't know much about serveral of those guys, but for me the 3 most contemporary fighters you list fall a bit short. Hatton, Graham and Jackson were never quite great champions imo.
Re: What Great Fighters Were KO'd? Not TKO'd, But KO'd?
Donald Curry by Mike McCallum.
That was a pretty good KO. And Curry was considered great at the time.
Re: What Great Fighters Were KO'd? Not TKO'd, But KO'd?
Garcia flattening Morales was a recent one. (Garcia-Khan doesn't count as it was a TKO)

Was going to mention that fight myself but thought it would be an insult to Morales going on what stage of his career he is at.

Matthew Hilton and Benitez. Not a great really but Pettway over Simon Brown. One of the scariest 'KO's you'll see. Any era, any division.

He never did it again.
