Re: Sam Peter-James Toney September 2nd!
It seems to me if the fight goes the distance, Toney might win on points; however, if the mashed potatoes and gravy slows Toney's tonage, it is a predictable nightmare. :P
Re: Sam Peter-James Toney September 2nd!
I'll give it to Toney though. he'll fight anybody for real.

I agree with ya ! He do take on all comers !
Re: Sam Peter-James Toney September 2nd!
I give this fight a 6 on my fight rating scale....
Its one of those Old School-New School kind of fights....
I liked Toney back in the day, He was arrogant, cocky, funny as hell in interviews and would definately back up what he said....
The truth is like you all say, he doesnt back down from a fight...
The question here for Peter is....
Did he learn a lesson from the Wlad fight??? Honestly, I think he did...
The thing going for Peter here is, he has room for growth, he is still young and even if he loses to Toney, it will not hurt his record or chances for good fights in the future....
Peter is also one that has taken fights that we all know would be tough for him...The past 9 out of 10 fights he took were fights with guys with winning records, maybe not all contenders, but good fighters...Julius Long was a walk fo Peter...
I thought that he should have waited a little longer to fight Wlad....But, he showed that he had heart...And he can take a punch too...
I think its going to come down to who gets off first...Toney is going to want to wear this kid down, he is hungry and really wants a big win....Toney could give a shit....Toney could lose two fights and still get a Belt fight....
I will really be watching for how these two look at the weigh ins though...
If Toney comes in sloppy and weighing 245+, I say Peter....This might sound bad, but I am thinking TKO, but might have to say SD...
If Toney comes in lookin like he has really been getting ready for a fight....then I say Toney by SD
Good Luck,
Coach...

No doubt, Toney will come in about 215-217 for this fight, But even so, He fights in the pocket , and I think that’s a dangerous place to be when fighting a heavy handed fighter like Peter, sometime late in the fight Peter will start having an effect on Toney . I see Peter winning by later R stoppage. IMO

Good call. That's how I see it myself.

As per your comment about how certain rules apply to certain fighters, it's been that way since the dawn of time and it won't end anytime soon.
As for Wlad, yeah he beat the shit out of Sam...he got hit in the back of the head twice, where were the point deductions or warnings for that. Not only did he hit Wlad in the back of the head but also Julius "The 7 foot coward" Long. Say what you will about holding, Lewis did it, Ali did it, Frans Botha, John Ruiz, etc when was the last time one of those guys was penalized for it and they did it a hell of a lot more than Wlad. Also holding doesn't kill people whereas smacking people with power punches in the back of the head can

I'll be fair with you and say that I've seen Sam Peter hit his opponent behind the head at least once every time I've watched him. I just pretend not to notice.

Look man, I understand that you are a fan of Wlad and all that but for you to defend that fight is just crazy. He beat the S*** out of Peter? Woa, that's a pretty silly thing to say. Where else is Peter's punch going to land if Wlad pulled him in and was so scared to get hit in the face that he turned his head. That was probably the best Wlad and surely you don't think that was the best Peter and I truly doubt Wlad will give him a rematch but if he does, it won't take too much more than what you call an unskilled brute to beat Wlad the next time around. C'mon, with all that he still had him on queer street several times in the fight so just imagine. Wake up and don't be blinded by your love for a particular fighter, Lyle. Like I said, I was a fan of Wlad myself even after he lost to Brewster and Sanders but I do not want to see him win like that. He's better than that IMO. Again you say that all these other guys did it so I guess that makes ok, huh? Boxing is not UFC or wrestling. There are different rules here so if that's what you're into you're watching the wrong sport.

Agreed, Wlad adapted the "new" Manny Steward style of fighting, two punches, clutch, grab and hold if the other guy starts to fight back...It's a style that will have fans soured on Wlad if he's not careful...Larry Merchant is the only guy I've seen that enjoys the "clutch and hold" style that won Kitschko that fight....

:coolclick:
Wlad deflates quicker than Lyle's inflatable friend when his mum comes home.
There is no glory in winning a fight after having been put on your ass three times. Peter is just a wild, amatuer slugger? Maybe but he still kicked Wlads ass. :P

I agree McClellan vs Benn Perfect example of the dangers of rabbit punches and hitting in the back of the head
Re: Sam Peter-James Toney September 2nd!
here we go again everyone hating on Wlad...well hate on him all you want it won't make Sam Peter a good fighter he's fat, slow, and he hits people behind the head which is why he has so many KO's.
You guys might want a rematch to see Wlad get beat but he won't Sam hasn't learned a goddamn thing and neither have his trainers, they think beating Julius Long is going ot teach him how to BOX tall rangey fighters??? BAH!
CC Jtrock, that's exactly my point

:coolclick: Back at you, a little going away present
Re: Sam Peter-James Toney September 2nd!
Wlad is easily the most skilled heavy fighter out there right now. It's plain as day for anyone who even remotely knows this division.
If you just can't stand the guy, then by all means bash away, but if you say things to insinuate that Peter is a better fighter, or if you even think that maybe Peter won that fight, then you're going to come off as an ignorant boob who knows little about the division and you should expect to be treated that way.
