Mayweather is a great boxer, but if this fight took place with both their primes @ lightweight Whitaker would have no trouble outboxing Floyd, its what he did!!!Quote:

It may be unfair to judge at this stage cuz Floyd hasnt finished his career but if I had to go 1 way I think Pernell skools him with ease
you're not one of those people that hold onto the past so hard it skews their memory and ability to recognize the reality are you?....PBF wins hands down.....he will go down as on of the greatest fighters that ever lived....Quote:

That would be a good fight.. Pete was one of my fav fighters. I love when he gave Chavez a beating in San Antonio ! back to the topic , I would say prime -vs- prime. Floyd Mayweather would have won. but who knows? would have been great to see .
Ok so I threw this one up so I gotta give my opinion. I think Sweet Pea was awesome, and I mean awesome. No one comes close to him for not getting tagged. I think he would have frustrated (like he did so many in his day) even Floyd. Its such a close one from a purists view. I think prime Whittaker would might just have been able to school Mayweather as he is now. Maybe take a split or tight unanimous. I reserve the right to change my mind later though, especially if we get Mayweather-Hatton. I think you got a mix of styles for a Leonard-Duran I there. If Mayweather turns over Hatton that will go along way towards cementing his legacy.
Some nice opinion all round, cheers.
Totally agreed,CC. Lets' see PBF in the ring with dangermen like Sweet Pea faced and avoid getting hit all night then we can talk!Quote:

hmm u mite be right about the whittaker thing i thinks its an impression i got from a backstage vid and some dosgy commentary of whittaker before a tito fight once which was about two fights b4 he fought pernell. but i still believe tito would do him at his prime, i guess im pretty big on tito.
but i dont agree tito was at his best before de la hoya?? i mean i dont believe he deserved to beat dlh but it seems alot of the time judges fail to score well when you use the stick and move strategy, but what about david reid, vargas, joppy etc and to be honest i think he could have still been at his peak when he lost to the executioner but tito always came forward and bhop was more of a superior tacticican if he had of not fought hopkins and took some other great fights i think he could have been up there for a few years.. but then i guess we wouldnt have seen trinidad-mayorga...which frankly..rocked!
Tito was at his peak from 99 until his first retirement. I am big on Tito also (second favorite fighter of all time) but I am also big on Pernell (First favorite fighter of all time) and I don't think Tito would have been able to hit Pernell in his prime. As far as the Bernard fight is concerned people give Oscar the benefit of the doubt for losing to Bernard with size being the excuse but they do not give the same excuse to Tito (Why). 20/20 hindsight but Tito could have ruled 154 for years, to bad his ego got in the way.Quote:

Keep in mind Roger had quite a bit more power than Floyd does, anyone who thinks Floyds edge in power would bother Pernell, that honestly makes me laugh out loud... Pernell was at a disadvantage in power in almost every big fight he ever had, much like Floyd is... But it didn't mean squat.
