I don't think I have ever heard any one make fun of the Londom bomb victims...

I notced this at the time - think 9/11 and 7/7 victims were exceptions when it came to jokes as people were that horrified by events. Ok the tsunami and other events were far more disastrous in terms of loss but the fact that these were murders of such a large scale seemed to numb the world. It also affected the US and UK directly where I think most of these 'jokes' originate.

But you name it when celebrities die and disasters happen jokes such as this emerge - space shuttle, Ayrton Senna, Freedie Mercury, New Orleans, Di & Dodi, Maurice Gibb, Rod Hull ( ;)) etc etc etc

Basically its because we 'know' Steve Irwin a lot more than we did any one from 7/7 or the tsunami

You know one of the most empowering things you can do if your faced with a life threatening situation or a disease that is taking you away from existance is to find humor in it.
I think its natural and it gives you some much needed space mentaly to be able to deal with it.

Holy shit seriously? Gotdamn. And by a sting ray? Thats fucked up. You know, this guy wrestles alligators, stampedes with elephants and grabs cobras yet a fucken sting ray got him? I fucks with sting rays at the little wade pool pettng zoos and that's what killed him? Thats the most anticlimactic death ever.

But seriously, I used to watch his show when I was terribly bored, bout the only animal planet show I could watch. R.I.P.

And Diana didn't do shit that some one with loads of money and no responsibilities would do... was all spin if you ask me, which most people wouldn't/shouldn't.

Steve was an ordinary bloke, he was down to earth. I know people who met him and they said he was just normal. Not a celeb, just an every day aussie. And on those grounds his dad has rejected a state funeral coz he would never of wanted it. RIP steve and man you will be missed. A great aussie and a great man.

It was a big ray,we grow them big down here,apparently the sting was about as large as a pen that he ripped out of his heart before he died.

He was a great bloke now he is dead you will hear from others what other real good he got up to behind the scenes not only in convertsation but many other worthy causes.

I heard that Eric Clapton is going to sing at his funeral......... they were going to ask Sting, but thought it inappropriate.

In a moment of seriousness, however, I have just found out that he purchased 90,000 acres of land to leave derelict as a wildlife reserve. He did not crow about this in the papers when he was alive.

Actually, I think that is a pretty decent thing to do - so fair play to him (for that, anyway)
