Re: Worst ever heavyweight champion
i just hate ruiz. he was boring and a sore loser. when he lost the tite to toney only to be given it back cos of toney's disqualification he still acted like he deserved the title. and then him and his manager tried to pinch the title when he just lost it again to valuev. cry babys.
Re: Worst ever heavyweight champion
john ruiz is my second cousin. He has done alot for me personally.
Re: Worst ever heavyweight champion
You know I agreed with your Wright posting; but why the hell would you make up a lie like being related to John Ruiz?

I can understand how many people would say Ruiz, but for gods sake Valuev is the 3rd or 4th guy to take his belt, and he didn't even deserve to win their fight... Since then, Monte Barret and Owen Beck, among with his absolutely mediocre ability.. I agree with your top 2. have a CC.

I dont agree there big dog. Valuev has decent punch out put. doesnt hold or run like a homo (is it poofter or ginger in England.... dont even want to guess what it is down there in the hood) and due to his size has power on every punch. He hasnt ever stunk the joint out.
I will add however that based on my criteria for this survey i Should have picked Shannon Briggs. Based on heavyweight championship fights that the fighter won or defended his one fight was SSOOOOOOO bad that you would really have to pick him based on the one outing. I read that he had a 3 punch per round output!! 3 punches!!!!
(pulls pants down near knees and turns baseball hat sideways)
peace out!! (waves some fingers in a goofy manner like all us wiggers do)

I definitely wouldn't vote for Douglas. He was actually a very talented fighter, the most talented on that list in my opinion, he was just a total dog when it came to training.
I think a lot of non-boxing fans think he was just a guy who landed one lucky punch, but anyone who watched Tyson-Douglas knows that he dominated that entire fight. Mike was the one who landed one lucky punch.
Douglas also got a very lucky long count because in my books the fight was over after tyson knocked him down.
I watched the fight only this week on the Tyson Ringside DVD that ESPN have just released.
The 'long' count was completely and totally irellevent as the bell went for the end of the round as soon as he got up anyway.
Plus he looked totally composed, waited until the ref counted 8 then stood up.
Not controversial in the slightest. Even if the ref did give him an extra second Tyson couldnt have done anything because the bell sounded for the end of the round whilst he was on the floor anyways
As for worst champ, I'd go with Oleg Maskaev. At least Ruiz has some big name opponents on his record.

Great poll !! I actually had to think about that one. My reflex reaction was Ruiz (like most everyone else, apparently). But after thinking about it a little bit, I actually voted for Oliver "There's No Crying in Boxing" McCall. I was hoping for a decent rematch between him and Lennox Lewis. Instead, I get this psycho crybaby that ended up getting disqualified and probably had Mills Lane thinking: "I don't need any more of this shet."

lol i did love his excuse though!!
lol its was all a sham to suck lennox in or something.. i was baiting him or something to that effect!! ;D
lol love it!

Did McCall really say that? I can't remember. If he did, that's one of the most awesome and hysterical things in the history of sports. If someone could find that quote, I'd be indebted to you for life.

Guys like Briggs, Seldon, Rahman, and I could name many others were drooling on the canvas from much less.
Bear was no stiff. Had perhaps one of the biggest right hands in boxing history.
Re: Worst ever heavyweight champion
I remember Lennox hitting him with his best shots and not even moving him, he had some chin

Scrap,
How about giving me your take on Primo. Yes, a lumbering mob promoted stiff. But a guy who was an unwitted pawn. When they finally fed him to the lions, he showed he had a pair. Taking a brutal beating from Bear, and not folding.
I think that counts for something. :)

Cross, I think he gets a bum deal he bxed and beat some fair guys in his time. Jack Sharkey Ernie Schaaf Paolno Uzcudum Tommy Loughran Walter Nuesal all good fighters He lost to a fit Max Baer and got stopped past his best by Joe Louis in 6 at a time when skill beat size, dont forget there were big guys about then. Overall I dont think history has been to kind to him
