Lords , dont agree its about hitting the other guy with force more than hes hitting you. Dictating the flow of the fight, who has the skill whether it be the attacking fighter or the defensive one.
About the first fight, I've posted tons of times about it in length but imo it comes down to ring generalship. Defense, punch effectiveness and ring generalship make up the scoring of a fight. IMO, Winky won the fight because he wasn't hit to often, and he controlled how the fight was fought from both ends.
I hear what your saying. but I prefers the aggressor in a fight. the guy forcing the action. the guy taking chances to win. if your throwing punches and the other guys is just catching ( Defense) During those exchanges I would vote for the guy throwing . anyone can get into what I call "sparring partner defense mode " and go 12 rounds . If you really stop and think about it .. The guy making the fight, is the guy willing to press the action and take chances . because without that guy, there is no fight. ;)Quote:

I agree on that point, hes the guy putting bums on seats, but there has to be a line drawn. Or we go down the road of less skill because we dont encourage it.

( makes for a horrible watch) and hurts the sport.
To me a fighter willing to take chances. whom is able to slip punches as he is barring down on his opponent. Is what makes boxing a great sport to watch, and keeps the fan thrilled and enticed to keep watching
Your not wrong
This one 4 time golden gloves guy, he hated Winky's defense with what he called,
"just sticking your arms in front of your face and taking the punches."
I laughed, because I thought I was the only one who thought Winky's defense...
... well I don't like it. haha
Certainly doesn't have to look of a beautiful slip of the punches,
or MANY other ways to defend.
And I'm almost certain someone's gonna get offended by this. ;)
I thought the fight was close, with neither fighter taking the victory near the end.
Have you seen the fights? Simon didn't beat him.. I would put the Vazquez fight as a draw consider he won almost every round. And Vargas did not beat him at all.Quote:

But Winky's defense is some of the best in boxing. What's the difference if Winky has his hands in front of his face or on his side. Isn't a blocked punch a blocked punch regardless of where your hands are?
Sure Jermain was throwing more but he was throwing more in order to stop Winky's forward progress because who was pressing the fight? It sure as hell wasn't Jermain who fought off his backfoot for most of the night. And Winky was pressing the fight effectively taking shots on the gloves and firing counters through Jermain's defense.
There's aggressiveness and then there's effective aggressiveness. Jermain was aggressive and active, but he was neither more effective then Wright. And effectiveness matters. Or do we have to talk about Jermain's defense of backing into a corner and letting Wright hit him 10 times before deciding to fire back?
Yeah, I know the distance. I'm a fart away from Memphis. The idea that was stated was that Taylor couldn't get a decision in his hometown. Little Rock is about 150 miles from Memphis, not to mention that the judges are from all over the place.Quote:
