Guess Joes SCARED of Clinton too. :-\
ANYWAY, even if the Kessler offer was real (has it been reported anywhere outside of the Danish press?), does anybody honestly think FW is gonna give up promotional rights to the fight? ;D
And didn't Kessler already turn down FWs offer of £1.5m? Wonder why?
Warren's claim that he'd made a 1.5 mill offer to Kessler (and Beyer), came up when he was pressured by journalists as to why Kessler-Calzaghe wasn't made. He just claimed an offer had been made at some unspecified point in the past. No further detail.
Kessler's manager immediately went public saying it was a total lie (no offer ever received or heard of) - but that they were quite willing to discuss it.
I don't think there's been any mention of it from Warren since then.
Of course it's word against word. It's up to you who you wanna believe. Neither promotors are ppl i'd put too much faith in. Still i'd like to know just a minimum of detail about any such offer before taking Fwanks word for it. (like even what year it was supposedly made)
And if he was serious - why not extend the offer and make it public to put pressure on Kessler?
Something fishy about this "oh by the way we've made Kessler an offer in the past - but let's not talk about it any more" routine.
Re: Team kessler sh*t on Calzaghes name....
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Speak!!!
So Kessler ducked Lacy?
No wonder Palle is so pissed off now ;D
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Spea
There isn't a lot of what he says that is untrue ;)
Bet he'd fight Lacy Now ;D
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Speak!!!
Nah as Palle says "Lacy is a bum." "Calzaghes win over him is worthless"
See Kessler/Palle made a good move ducking not fighting the bum Lacy back when they could have...Obviously beating Lacy didn't do much for Calzaghes career ;)
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Speak!!!
You got it wrong there Fenster. (so what's new ;D)
Lacy CALLED OUT Kessler when negotiations with Calzaghe stalled. But when Kessler responded with an actual offer for a fight in either Denmark or US, Lacy stopped mentioning Kessler and went back to the negotiating table with Calzaghe. (Kessler was supposed to have been injured at the time, so i guess Lacy thought it was "safe" to call hi out, to put pressure on Calzaghe).
Some will argue Kessler's demands were too steep considering his bargaining-position. He offered 1.5 mill for a fight in Denmark and asked the same, if the fight was to be in the US. Made a big point out of making the offer PUBLIC just to avoid misunderstandings such as yours (and to slap Lacy for trying to "use" Kessler in negotiations).
Lacy never made any kind of offer. Had he been serious he could at least have made a counter-offer, if he was unhappy with what Kessler offered. But he didn't. He stopped mentioning Kessler too.
So if any of the two did any "ducking", it wasn't Kessler.

Lacy's camp aknowledged at a press-conference days later that there'd been an offer for the amount of money Palle stated, but that Kessler's demands were ridiculous. They (Lacy's ppl) completely neglected mentioning the part about the offer being two-way (Kessler willing to pay the same amount, if Lacy travelled). I guess somehow it didn't fit the Lacy "I'll fight anyone anywhere" rep that everybody seemed to buy into at the time.
I remember at the time catching huge amounts of flak from Lacy-fans when bringing it up. They told me i was stupid to believe the offer was genuine and that "no small-time danish promotor" could deliver on that kind of offer. Well guess what - Within a year Kessler offered and paid Beyer the same ámount to fight in Denmark. Don't see what makes the Beyer case different from Lacy.
These days Lacy is viewed in a somewhat more realistic light. Back then a lot of ppl simply refused to believe Kessler might believe in his chances against Lacy - and felt that that alone made the offer unbeleaveable. I think today many would see it differently.
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Speak!!!
Palle is going to have to eat his own words soon, because Calzaghe is going have to fight Kessler eventually. The thing is, Kessler just isn't anything special. I really beleive this. He looks just like your run of the mill contender at every division. I mean Manny Siaca was able to make him look ugly at times. Manny Siaca. He fights really bad off his back foot. He leaves himself open for 10 years everytime he throws a jab. He doesn't vary his combinations much at all. He moves straight ahead constantly, doesn't cut the ring off very well. He's just like Lacy. Imposing, spectacular at times but has so much work to do around the edges. Now I think that Kessler and Lacy are the future of the division but...I haven't seen a single thing to see what makes anyone think Kessler can beat Calzaghe. Kessler - Lacy (healthy and focused Lacy) would be a much better fight because it's one Kessler has a chance to win and look good in.
Hate to be so down but it's the truth.
And Calzaghe I think recognizes that and no matter what Palle says, Manfredo is 10 times the NAME of Kessler. No one knows who Kessler is. My friends little sister knows who Manfredo and Mora are.

Well if you've actually gone through the trouble of seeing Kessler's fights, then fair enough you have those views. But it seems by far the most ppl who actually get to watch more than a 30 sec clip of Kessler, reach the conclussion that he's for real.
As for the Siaca fight, no surprice i don't agree with you. Don't recall Siaca giving Kessler ANY real problems. Are you refering to anything specific (rounds, stylistic issues or such)?
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Speak!!!
I've seen the Thysee, Siaca, Mundine, Beyer fights and one other that's sliped my memory. And a sparring session with Sam Soliman. And Siaca never really sustained a really good round, just had small spurts of sucess when he came forward. But whenever he moved straight forward Kessler just backpedaled and got hit. Happened a few times in the early rounds before Kess took over. It's just a small thing in a dominating performance but it's things like that you have to look for when facing competition that's less then stellar.
And I sounded so harsh, but it's more of a testement to Calzaghe then anything. Kess is part of the future of the 168's, but he isn't beating a sound and focused Calzaghe.

Fair enough.
We don't agree but you make valid points.
As for Kessler's move-straight-back-when-pressured routine, it's as far as i can tell one of the most often mentioned SERIOUS critisisms about his style.
Way i see it Kessler's defence is all about control of distance. The straight back move is simply to regain control of distance. So far i haven't seen anyone able to land on him if they tried to follow. He takes theose 1 or 2 steps backwards and is then ready to counter. Typically the opponent will try that a few times during the first rounds and then more or less give up on it because it leads to too much punishment when Kessler counters. Think the same happened in the Siaca fight.
Now whether Kessler can be succesful with this style against better opposition remains to be seen (or if not, if he's able to change his style).
To me he's looked convincing enough that i believe he can pull it off, even against Calzaghe. I can respect if ppl view it differently. It's not like i feel a Calzaghe-Kessler fight would have a fore-gone conclussion - but that goes both ways.

Either you have not watched the Siaca fight or you are a Kessler HATER - MR. PERFECT was hit like two time in the whole fight and fought the perfect fight, so when you claim that Siaca hit him every time he moved forward it is NOT true.

Ducking was meant tongue in cheek ;)
What did I get wrong dumdane?
WBA champ Mikkel Kessler called out Lacy with a politely written letter - http://www.fightnews.com/946.htm - that was posted on various boxing Web sites. But negotiations hit a snag immediately when Kessler's bluff was called.
"When me and my managers made the call and said let's do it, he basically wanted my house, my cars and all my pay," Lacy said.http://www.sptimes.com/2005/11/05/Sports/Lacy_looks_beyond_ton.shtml
I don't doubt your account but there's two sides to every story.
Thing is, had the Kessler-Lacy fight happened and Kessler won, Palle wouldn't be slagging everyman and his dog off - Lacy wouldn't be a "bum" - Kesslers win over him wouldn't of been "worthless".
If Kessler (Palle) had the HBO deal and was being lined up to face their golden boy Jermain Taylor would he refuse to fight Contender star Manfredo if thats what they wanted? (Thats the spiel, anyway ;)) Course he wouldn't. It's obvious Palle is going to be pissed off if he can't get in on the action. (HBO)
Can you tell me Kesslers biggest purse and gate, plus why there was "only" 7,000 for the Beyer fight?
Re: Why Is Calzaghe Ducking Kessler But Calling Out Taylor?... Team Kessler Speak!!!
I think Joe and co know he will hammer both Manfredo and Taylor so its the easier route with bigger possible gains in the future. I dont think he cares that he should be fighting Kessler or that he did want to unify the division. I do think he will fight kessler in the future 2-3 fights away I just hope Kessler doesnt improve too much for joes sake in themean time. Clinton woods I dont see unless Woods beats a few yanks to get the money right for FW. Unfortunate but there we go.
