Re: Im fucked, need serious advice
Turn the shit around on them. Get a lawyer and sue the fuckin company for slander and causing you emotional grief. Your a kid with no record and there's no tape (there ain't right) or proof that says you did it. Being named as a suspect has caused you severe stress. I guarantee you they'll back off.

As for your references, not to worry, it is illegal for any employer to give u a bad one, they can only A acnolage the fact that you worked for them from date said to date said, or B only list the good points, anything bad and you can press charges and win without a doubt.

If they dismissed him for theft (rightly or wrongly), they can say they dismissed him for theft.
It is not illegal to give a bad reference, it is illegal to give an UNTRUE one.

Ultimately you've gone against company policy by buying the drink but your certainly not guilty of helping yourself to £70 from the till. They can't prove it cos it didn't happen but your quite right, that element of doubt will still be there.
As far as references go...you'd be surprised at just how sloppy at lot of companies are. At your age just bang on a couple of personal references if asked. If you really must declare that you've worked at this shop (to prove you have relevant experience for example) they can only put in your reference statements of fact. Most companies only put dates of employment on these days cos they're afraid of getting sued.
what im worried about is:
I put $20 in the till for the drink and i got my change of $19.37, that could look like anything from a CCTV point of view. Because the change was pretty vast it is almost impossible to tell what the hell i did take
Re: Im fucked, need serious advice
Can't really offer any more advice than any of the others.

Don't let it get you down fella ;)
Haven't read through all of this yet BUT if you accept a caution you are admitting guilt. So don't.

All good advice so far.
With regards the CCTV footage - the systems for the Co-Op are/where originally installed by ADT and are now maintained by Initial Security after winning the co-ops UK security tender.
As far as i am aware their recording equipment is not stored in a locked cabinet and the tapes used are not in a secured storage facility.
Combined with the fact that they are a commercial premises, they will be bound by the data protection act.
Basically, if the employer is using the system as a tool to monitor staff activity - and not record incidents to assist police, then they are infringing on your rights.
I'm pretty sure that the Co-Op systems DONT comply with the requirements of DPA and thus would be ruled out in any prosecution (recordings not stored in compliance with DPA in a locked cabinet by a registered indivual - i.e. the Data Controller as they are refered to by the DPA)
Furthermore, if they are using the footage to 'spy' & 'monitor your behaviour' without your consent then they are on sticky ground themselves.
Refer to section 3 of the following:-
