Cmon bro, you can't call what Toney threw most of the time punches. Peter had friction burns from being rubbed so often by Toney's gloves. JFAT didn't show any promise of rattling Peter at all first time out, and unless he gets the steel chair out from under the ring, while Don King is standing in the corner distracting the referee, then I can't see him troubling Peter this time either.
You honestly don't think he so much as troubled Peter the first time?? THat's crap imo... Peter looked absolutely hopeless at times, he was thouroughly discouraged, gassed out badly in several instances, and by the championship rounds he looked like a beaten man, who was content to just finish the fight.. PEter was cut and busted up worse than TOney, just because he landed a few bombs and generally the harder punches doesn't negate the fact that Toney was far more consistent and won several more rounds at least... Toney by a more convincing decision this time around, just wait and see.
I will indeed wait and see, but in my opinion, and the judges opinion, Sam Peter threw more damaging punches more often than Toney's pawing shots, and it is my belief that he'll do it again.
Dont think anyone is going to argue that he threw the more damaging punches, but the more often part, or the insinuation that he landed enough of them to win the fight, are where you are incorrect imo... PEter landed roughly 5 of these punches in the entire fight, and because of that he probably won all rounds in which he did land these... But aside from the occasional bomb, he was definetly outboxed. I agree that Toney threw far less meaningful punches, but he was also alot more active and definetly won more rounds.... I don't see how anyone can have recently watched the entire fight and would say Peter deserved anything but to lose.. It would be like my saying that in my and 3 judges opinions, Chavez threw the more damaging punches more often than Whittaker and deserved the draw.. It doesn't quite work like that.

Toney threw "pawing"punches??
It's interesting how people can see things so very differently.
I felt that Toney threw and land many more accurate and clean counter punches and hard straight jabs. They just wern't powerful enough to really rock the Nigerian Nightmares concrete head. Its so hard for a ex middleweight to real have enough crack to hurt a really big stocky guy like Samuel. Esp when his head is bolted directly to his body without the normal use of a neck. If anything I remember Peters jabs which landed on Toneys shoulder and chest and after a while Toney almost ignored them. I think Toney is the far superior boxer and will prove it again. Although Samuel Peter is the far nicer guy and probably a much more deserving individual.

From Billy Blanks stories Toney should be very well conditioned. He may even come in at 168 ;D

Remember. this guy started fighting PRO at 157!! Samuel Peter weight 257 for the last fight. It's not possible to gain a huge pile of weight to compete with these super heavies without "Bulking UP" That means eating lots and that means you gain fat as well. Pro body builders bulk up to say 300 lbs then rip down to 220-230 to compete. its the only way to gain big muscle weight and mass. Also he has 78 pro fights!!!!
78!!!! try and get pumped and ripped and train for 8-10 hard weeks etc 78 f#ckin times!!! 20 years as a pro!! 4 fights per year * 10 weeks
Here's my issues with Toney...& I have stated this ever since he got fat & tried to pass himself off as a heavyweight...he's not a heavyweight...he's just fat & mouthy.
Sure I can't stand his ass...but that's at heavyweight.
For years I have stated that Toney is one of the greatest fighters of the last decade. As a super middle he was impressive as hell...but now...he's just a loud mouth. I know all of his history & I know it well...but I have no respect for him at this weight & his theatrics make him come across as an ignorant punk.

I was mostly impressed withthe fact that it was Toney who was leading with the jab throughout the fight and landing well. It was hardly a knockout punch but it was definately a scoring punch that landed at will. Hardly a "pawing"shot which is what ive heard it described as on this thread. Toney did have issues with balance and I saw the same thing against Rahman. Toney's bulk is the main factor behind this. A more streamlined Toney would help considerably. Lets wait and see for the weigh in...I cringe at the prospects ahead!! :-\ ;D
If Toney can come in under 225 it will be something!! Possibly a miracle, but certainly something!!

Toney's punches weren't the jabs of a proper heavyweight, and for me I just don't think that connecting is enough to win fights, otherwise the Howard Eastman of his last fight would be the king of all boxing. You do realise that Toney is today settling down for a Christmas dinner, so no way will you see him at 225.
To paraphrase a famous film, I imagine Toney telling his chef today: "I'll have four fried turkeys and a coke."
"Turkey breast or turkey wing?"
"Woman,I said four fried TURKEYS, and a coke!"

;D Funny posting, I will click you again when karma allows...
Of course, James Toney's jab is not comparable to the jab of say, Lennox Lewis in terms of power. But it was a scoring jab in that last fight, its hardly a trying to find the distance jab like the one Audley Harrison tends to use...
Im telling you, I have no idea what to expect come the weigh in...If Toney is over 230pounds again, I do feel that a little mockery will abound on these very pages!! ;D

Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Toney vs Peter II
When ever I think about this fight I start thinking back to Jones vs Tarver 2. I mean Jones won the first fight because he pulled it out in the end so that decisions was not contraversal, but for the second fight Jones trained his ass off and still got ko'ed. I don't know why but with all the training Toney still might lose.
I'm hearing all the samethings that were said about rjj he wasn't in shape (and don't get me wrong Toney was not in shape as well as Jones being physically drained) but when there were no excuses he still lost and Roy said he was in good shape but he just wasn't motivated. Well James can come into the ring with a body of a Greek god but if it ain't there mentally well........ good night.
with that being said you still can't knock off James Toney he will most likely pull it out.
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Toney vs Peter II
I'm surprised and disapointed with some of you. Peter won the first fight legit? Thats fukin news to me!!! BIG NEWS!!!
The way I saw it, Toney clearly won the damn fight, never went down, never came close to going down ONCE, let alone THREE damn times like someone we know did. And Toney fought the big puncher like a man, and pounded Peter. I like both guys, but Peter won maybe 4 rounds, which is pretty good, but hardly winnin the fight. My prediction for the second fight is Toney by decision. But if Toney comes in grossly obese and arrogant, knowing that he's already beaten Peter once and been robbed, he may be KO'd. But I highly doubt it. Toney by decision, should be Unanimous, but knowin the bitch judges, it'll be a SD.

Let me clearly state that I had James winning the first fight by a wide margin, his jab was tap dancing on on Peters eye.
