Wud of looked as big a fool as you then wudn't he? coz jones was offerd over 5 mill to fight calzaghe IN THE US
I think jones is in the top 10 or 15 greatest fighters ever, the guy done stuff in the ring, against good figters that you wudn't thinkpossible or most fighter even dare try. If he had retired after beating ruiz more people would consider him an ATG! but 'coz he lost a few (way past his prime!) he goes down a notch or two. Jones could of stayed in a talentless devision like hopkins did, unify it and beat up lower weight class fighters like hopkins did and make 20 title defenses, but he was champion in 4 weights, unifiying LH beating almost the best at every weight.
ruiz was pretty highly regarded at the time jones fought him - borring annoying, hated what ever but he was fairly highly regarded as a fighter. Eubank, didn't he make it clear he didn't want to fight Jones? not certain about been, and although i wud of loved to see jones fight calzaghe, i don't think joe was a big enough name then. Hbo were gunna try build calzaghe up to fight jones at some point, but after a bad scrappy lookin fight with reid 'coz of a broken hand they ditch that idea, joens was already a god at Lh and a 3 weight champ when warren was trying to get the fight done, but calzaghe held the WBO belt and wasn't to big a name outside of europe so what reason really was there for joens to fight him? not as i all the us were talking about how great clzaghe was and how good a fight it would be.
OK first of all I don't think you understand my post,
If Jones was offered 5m, then why didn't he take it? as far as FOOLS go I think your the biggest, before you get into a debate with me, learn how to SPELL.
And I think your the only one who regarded RUIZ as a top fighter making you an even BIGGER FOOL, at the time Ruiz was WBA champ Lennox Lewis was WBC champ, so in my book I know who the true heavyweight champ was.
When I post I'm not baised, I speak the facts as I say Roy Jones is a fantastic fighter I'm not disputing that he is a great fighter but not an all time great IMO.
i understood your post fine, u made out clazaghe was to scared to fight outside his own back garden - when he had offerd 2 top us boxers big paydays to fight him hi their back garden. Yeah i know i spell like a r'tard but tbh i really don't give two fucks lol, some people can , some people can't.
I never said ruiz was top dog at HW, but he was fairy highly regarded, he wasn't a joke fighter by no means, he had recently beaten and drawn with hoylfield after lewis had beaten and drawn with him, i know ruiz had one loss
YES I'm not denying that, allthough I rate Calzaghe very highly especially after the Lacy fight, answer me this why has Calzaghe NEVER fought in the US? the only time he left the UK was when he fought in Germany. and then if he offered Jones the money to fight in the US why didn't Jones except the offer?
So on one side your saying Calzaghe is MORE than happy to fight outside the UK - but Oh he hasn't and on the other hand your saying Jones would have fought Calzaghe - but Oh he didn't.
I personally think Calzaghe would give Jones a very good fight.
And get this straight Ruiz wasn't highly regarded.
Vitali Klitshko was and Lennox Lewis was - but not Ruiz, if you reagrded Ruiz highly I suppose that explains your views here.

Lets get this straight....Calzaghe has never been in a rush to fight out side of Europe. Calzaghe has never offered Roy Jones a sincere payday to face him in the U.S....Calzaghe is over rated his own fans are starting to doubt him...don't take my word for it search the forms some of his biggest supporters are now his biggest critics....Outside of home Joe is about as popular as day old fish....If he doesn't get a few real wins before he retires his legacy (if you can call it that) will too
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
I hate to do this...but I didn't read the entire thread...so I may either be repeating or just pissing into the wind with this...but here's my thoughts.
Everyone loses at one time or another. So Jones lost at the twilight of his career...he also won for retribution's sake.
Anywho, Jones is definently an all time great based on not only some of the men that he defeated...but how he did it & the way he used his tools.
You can sit down & watch his career set & even in his losses...he was doing some pretty nifty things.
I say he ends up in line with the rest of the GOATs.

last time i looked at an atlas Denmark was outside of the uk, where calzaghe fought Will McIntyre on a tyson undercard to try build his name up in the us o0 i never said jones would of fought him, i was just educating you a lil 'coz u have made 5 or so bold statement's that are clearly fucking wrong lol and now your getting your panties in a bunch when corrected. apart form the ruiz thing you have gotten pretty much every thing else ass backwards, and as far as ruiz is concerned we will have to agree to disagree coz i still believe he was fairy regarded then.

yea and you cant expect roy jones to fight lewis and vitali it would be mismatch there way too big for jones the ruiz win was still good win though but jones only done it to win hw belt to add to his legacy i think chris byrd vs roy jones would of been decent chess match  :-\

Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
I dont get how Jones can be branded 'all time great' just like that, then when the question is asked about Mayweather being an all time great, it is completey scorned at. Jones opponents barring maybe 6 or 7 weren't that dangerous. Not a good enough resume to be considered an all time great IMO. Skill wise probably but opponent wise, he just didn't quite do it for me. A win over Cazlaghe and Dariusz wud change my mind slightly bcos then he could say he had beaten the best around. Great to watch and i'm not a jones hater. Just don't consider him an all time great personally.

6 or 7 hard opponents is good these days name me another boxer since 1990 that have fought 7 good opponents in there career ?? i dont think your find many
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
Yeh but beating 6 or 7 decent opponents (maybe with the exception of hopkins and tarver) and losing to 2 very average fighters doesn't amount to an all time great.

Not to many people know about the 5 million that was offered to Roy Jones for a fight with Calzaghe in the US, You are correct. It was offered. Jones declined it. Why did Jones decline it ? Because Calzaghe's had the fuckin nerve to ask for 6 million. That's why. Calzcrappy was actually stupid enough to believe he was Jones equal. And since he was the one traveling, he felt he deserved the higher pay. I'm surprised Jones didn't pull a rib cage muscle laughing at his dumb ass. And you knows it's true. That's why you never mention the reason why Jones declined it when they asked you. Calzaghe never wanted the Jones fight. He made a stupid, unreasonable offer just to say he made an offer. Thing was it was such a foolish offer that nobody even acknowledged it. That's why you rarely hear about it. I'm surprise your were stupid enough to even bring it up. Damn, it's getting harder and harder to defend Calzcrappy, huh?
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
Roy Jones is too boring to be an all time great. His fighting style puts me to sleep.
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
Yeah those blazing lead left hooks bore the shit outta me too ;D
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
If Roy is an one of the greatest of his era doesn't that make him an all time great?
Great fighters are great fighters regardless of the era. If we judged only by the era they fought in as to whether they were great or not then Joe Louis wouldn't be considered one of the top 3 greatest heavyweights of all time. So why do it to Jones?
