Ricky is a great junior welterweight but he's been far surpassed by the likes of Oscar and Floyd, two guys who have ambitions way beyond fighting Ricky Hatton.
Oscar wants to beat the best p4p fighter in the world, Floyd wants world titles at 5 different weights so neither is going to move down two divisions to face Hatton, and Hattone certainly isn't going to come up any time soon.
As for Ricky's future at 140, I think there are some good fights out there for him. The potential megafight with Castillo would be huge, Diego Coralles is rumoured to be moving up to 147 but will no doubt fancy a fight or two at 140 just to dip his toes, so two potential great matchups there.
A domestic showdown with Witter surely isn't too far away, I'd imagine negotiations would begin by the end of the year if both are still world champions for a fight in the summer of 2008 or thereabouts.
Looking to the future there are two or three potential big names coming to 140 lb.
Lamont Peterson could be in position to launch a title challenge by 2008 and Britain's own Amir Khan will probably be at world level around 2009. I'd expect Khan to be a light welter by the end of 2008 at the latest so I'm sure a big showdown between the pair of them could happen some time in the future.
As for the guys above him, I honestly don't give Hatton a shot against any of the top guys at 147 lb.
Margarito is too big, so is Williams, Mayweather would dance rings around him, Cotto would batter him at 147 lb.
I don't honestly see any success for Hatton at 147, I couldn't see him beating Cintron to be honest.
Ricky is a great all action fighter, but the truth is he isn't as good as people make out.
He's the best there is at 140 now, no question, but tht is largely due to the fact that his biggest rivals at the weight have all moved up succesfully, something which Ricky unfortunately didn't manage to do :-\
:D
Ricky was tentatively offered the Oscar fight whilst Floyd was twiddling on his thumb deciding so thats not 100% true now is it?!
And if Floyd loses to Oscar, the next big fight out there for him alongside Cotto is Hatton. So to say it will never ever happen is wide of the mark
Hatton would get rid of Cintron in the same way Miguel did. Once he was hit to the body he didn't want to know
And if moving up a weight and winning the World title isn't successful I don't know what is?
Firstly after Mayweather if De La Hoya does fight on he'll fight either Winky Wright or Shane Mosely for a third time. Its possible he would face Trinidad if he came out of retirement but I'd say that would be unlikely.
The most likely outcome is that Oscar retires following the Mayweather fight, if not then a fight with his partner Winky would probably be the most likely. Hatton no way in hell. How is Oscar going to get down to 140? And you think Hatton would move up to 154lb? That ain't happening.
As for Mayweather, win or lose he will (providing he fights on) be looking soley at the 154lb division. He is far morel likely to chase a match with Cory Spinks or Travis Simms than he is to go backwards and drop two divisions to fight Ricky Hatton, whose star has already been replaced by Miguel Cotto.
As for Cotto dropping Cintron with a bodypunch, I am afraid this fight has never happened, unless you were lucky enough to see them sparring?
It was Quintana that Cotto beat in his last fight, he has never fought Cintron.
Cintron has only one defeat on his record to Margarito, but at 5 ft 11 and with knockout power in both hands I'd say Cintron would have far too much for Ricky Hatton.
Hatton relies on bullying his opponents, he sure as hell couldn't bully Cintron who could probably quite easily make 160 if he wanted. Cintron is a big lad.
Re: In terms of Hatton's future.....
Mayweather has said time and time again that he goes where the big fights go. He also said on Quite Frankly that he doesn't plan on going any higher then 154 and wants to dominate 140 - 154. 147 is where the big fights are. Floyd will be ringside at Hatton's next fight, the fight between the two would be HUGE and Floyd knows that. The only thing that tops it is a fight with De La Hoya. If Hatton beats Urango and Castillo and Mayweather beats De La Hoya, there will be no bigger match to make in boxing.

Sorry lad your right, I thought you meant Quintana
All other points are null and void
Would cc if I could even though I disagree with some of your other points :)

I've gotta strongly disagree with that. In my mind, without a doubt the biggest fight for Floyd if he beats ODH is against Winky at 154. Winky will take that fight--he's only been at 160 for a couple fights, and he's been very vocal about the fact that the fight he wants most is against the winner of PBF/ODH. A PBF/Winky fight would pit two of the top 3 p4p fighters in the world against each other. No other make-able fight does anything like that.
I agree with Killer Sheep that a PBF fight against any of Mosely, Cotto or Margarito would be a bigger fight than against Hatton as well--though I do agree, amat, that if Hatton finds away to get past Castillo (and Cotto or Margarito knocks the other guy out of the picture in June), the equation changes. But Winky is still a bigger fight regardless.
Finally, if PBF were ever to drop down to 140, the megafight there is against Pacquiao, not Hatton. This is the biggest fight out there, though very unlikely to happen. But I believe Pac came into the 3rd Morales fight at like 145 or 147, which is only a couple pounds less than PBF came into the Baldomir fight at. And Floyd seems to be getting annoyed with all of the recent talk that Pacquiao is catching up to him p4p-wise. I read a boxingtalk interview with Floyd a couple weeks ago where he said "Pacquiao is an exciting little fighter, but if we met at 140, I would beat that ass." Which was a far more intriguing answer than something like "my next fight's at 154 and that guy fights at 130, what the hell are you talking about?"

Now i do agree manny pac-Floyd mayweather would be a bigger match up then Hatton-floyd. But when you think about it Manny should dominate where he is comfotable. Floyd imo has gone to high going to 140 would be pointless just to fight manny imo. I know it would be a super fight but it just wouldnt make sense thinking about it imo. But i do feel Hatton should go 147 and take a floyd fight. Not floyd go to 140 fight manny and ricky that would be a stupid move imo!

Hatton at 154 ? isnt that bit to far out of his depth? the big names imo are at 147 there is no need for him going that far up. so is this just a thoery or has he acctually said those words ?
He'd face Oscar, Mayweather, Mosley or Cotto regardless of weight class. They are his own words.
Intresting so he doesnt have any needs to stay at 140 then ? what i dont understand know is why the fuck is he fighting Urango then ?
What you don't seem to understand in most of your posts Tam , is these superfights are becoming increasingly difficult to make. He had a 3 fight deal with HBO that should enable his 3rd fight to be a superfight with Castillo. HBO most probably advise him against fighting guys like Cotto or Mayweather. That being said, fights against Cotto and Mayweather are probably extremely hard to make anyway. I don't see how staying at 140 and beatin Castillo, Corrales, Witter and D-hop is a lame way out. He already has a massive win under his belt. Wins over them 4 guys would add up to a superb legacy. He only wants between 4 and 6 fights including the Urango one. He wants to get out by the time he's 30-31. I don't think Hatton is particularly on Mayweather's radar to be honest.
Re: In terms of Hatton's future.....
I would like Ricky Hatton to fight the following all at 140
Jose Luis Castillo
Junior Witter
Diego Corrales
Paul Spadafora/Paulie Malinaggi/Joel Casamayor (may be a good fight as they are slick southpaws)
Juan Diaz
Acelino Frietas
a mega fight with Cotto at 147
a fight vs Lenny Daws or Amir Kahn to end his career

Well who would you prefer him to fight? Castillo, Corralles, Witter and D-hope or mayweather,Cotto,Margarito and Williams. I know was legeacys go i would pick the guys at 147. I think i just see it in a different light because being honest i only see Corralles and Castillo being the big names at 140. If he has 4-6 fight maybe he should concentrate of fighting the 2 big names at 140 and then move up for his last four fights at 147 and get more belts.

Coralles and Castillo are bigger names (aswell as bigger marquee names/ticket sellers) than Williams or Tony surely?
Williams is a good prospect and I have yet to buy into they hype surrounding Margorito.
Cotto is an altogether different story but he is on record as saying he will step up to fight Cotto at Welter. He has to get past Urango and Castillo first though so it is all ifs and buts
As a Hatton fan I would love to see him take some fights at Welter, love it but he dominates everybody at 140 so why move? Didn't do Kostya Tszyus legacy any harm did it?

your right id want him to fight castillo and corrales than williams or margarito, then go on to finish with mayweather.
