If this is really happening then its a farce...
Do you think PBF/ODH is a farce too? "Winky PBF is a blown up junior middleweight lightweight and 170 154 is way beyond what he should be fighting at."
I mean, look--just like PBF wanted Oscar, Winky wanted this fight. It is what it is. Wink weighed 170 against Taylor anyway.

Some "purists" might think this will be a great chess match, i personally think it is one of the less intriguing fights in what should be a great year for boxing.
One question, are you retarded? How could you not see Winky winning the Taylor fight... he clearly won it, and outlanded Taylor by 60 some punches. I would be pissed as well because he was also robbed of the Vargas fight, and the Simon fight. Also WInky will come foreward not allowing Hopkins to fight safely on the outside.
I can assure you i am not retarded. Maybe you are just a hardcore Winky fan...because there is no way in hell he "clearly" won that fight. For him to act like a straight up baby and then back out of a rematch...where he might have proven more clearly if he was the better fighter...made me lose a huge amount of respect for him.
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At
this was a bad decision by wright. hopkins should win this fight because of obviously the weight they are in. hopkins should win a decision

I don't say retard as a means to hurt your feelings its just how can you possibly say he didn't win that fight by 4-5 rounds is beyond me... He way outlanded Taylor, and he clearly won the fight. I don't think he needed to give Taylor a rematch though I wish he had taken it... however he fought a very good opponent in Ike Quartey and dominated him as well. Like I said before WInky is as Large as Roy Jones Jr. in terms of weight, and looks very big at middleweight. He is naturally like 190 pounds Roy was saying, and its very easy for a guy that big to fight at 170... He is the second best fighter on the planet p4p, and I believe he beats Hopkins.

When is that old man gonna retire. Shouldn't he be collecting a pension or something ? ;D
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At
well first let me say i think hopkins scard of jones
next lets evaluate this fight.... hopkins is on a long layoff and he old it might do sumtin to him so he might lose .... if nutin changed he should win
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
This fight is gonna be easy work for Winky as long as the ref keeps Hopkins from cheating.
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At
Miles, you make great points all the way through the thread,CC. Winky is stupid to take this fight because it would end any chance he would have of fighting the winner of Oscar Floyd which would be financially more viable. Like I said before,it would be technically,a good match up but B Hop should be fighting someone else, what is it with challenging guys much smaller!? WTF!
And even though I'm not a big fan of his,JC beats both these guys imo and should do EVERYTHING possible to get them in the ring. I just had the pleasure of seeing some more fight JC fights and this guy is an awesome awesome boxer who rises to the occasion. Bring either of these 2 and he will beat up on them.
And I don't see how B Hop is going to win this fight if it is made. The names are exciting, the fight certainly won't be. ;D
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
Unbelieveable.
Honestly...I'm speechless on this one.
I say Hopkins takes this one...then again...I don't know...Wright's defense & jab is impeccable.
I'd love to make some comparisons between the shared Taylor fights...but I'd have to factor in the judges...& that's just a tuff call picking a winner based on judges. ;D Heh heh heh.
This will either be the biggest technical showcase of the decade...or a stylistic nightmare for both fighters...either way...I'll love it.
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
IMO, Hopkins workrate is just not high enough to win rounds. Although Winky's lack of power may give Hopkins some confidence to stay busier than usual so you never know. Problem for Hopkins is that Winky's defence revolves around his jab so it's a bad match up for Hopkins.
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
I like Winky easily. I think people are going to be shocked how steep the decline of Bernard's skills will be, and it will show his next fight. Some fighters gradually slow down, others are great one fight, and then the next fight it looks as if their skills have completely erroded. One things for sure though, the Roy Jones 'I lost because I had to shed weight' excuse looks as if it will now be passed down like a torch :). First Roy used it, then his conqueror Tarver used it, and I'm willing to bet Tarver's conqueror Hopkins will say just that to Larry Merchant in the post fight interview.

Oddly enough...I gotta disagree here.
Hopkins workrate was down against Taylor but up against Tarver.
Hopkins, IWO, is more suited for 168lbs to 170lbs than Wright is. A long time ago another forum member & I got in to a heated discussion about Wright could move up to 168 with no problem.
This, IWO, is ridiculous. You have to know your limits as a fighter...Wright's is 160lbs. While Wright has not lost a fight at 160lbs...I am still unsold on him as a middleweight...even though he's handled Soliman & Taylor it doesn't mean that he can handle a properly trained Hopkins at 170lbs & let me tell you this...Hopkins is ALWAYS trained.
Hopkins will win this one...but it won't be a cake walk. I think Winky is just trying to show that he is the best out there due to the fact that he'll fight anyone, anywhere, anytime, & now...any weight.
I'm impressed, believe you me...but it's still a stupid decision in my book that will make for a good fight.
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
Oh yeah...I'm also curious to see if Wright opts for the same plan against Hopkins that he used against Trinidad or if he uses the Taylor approach...either way...I still think that the Nard has an answer for his unbreachable defense...oddly enough.
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
I'm really thinking Nard is trying to be a shameless oppurtunist .
1) Pick on the weakest Heavyweight = Maskaev
2) Going after a Roy Jones than is no longer invincible
3) Trying to stretch Winky out past his weight just to have the name on the resume so it would appear to be an accompolishment beating Winky at 170 lbs
4) trying to make a match with Calzaghe when he knows Warren and Calzaghe wont take the bait.
Like I said I am a big Hopkins fan for who he is in the ring and what he has achieved and I would love to see him in the fight.... But he is starting to sound full of shite and a Spotlite whore and an all talk no action guy.... :-\
Re: Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright Agree To Terms ForJuly 21 Pay-Per-View Clash At 170
Here we have the two (2) fighters who beat Trinidad (This really hurts me :banghead: ) and had very close fights with Taylor...
This should create some attraction to the public, but I agree with many of the comments saying that this will be a boring fight due to their styles. I would not be surprised with a draw...
