Re: Shane Mosley Vs Roberto Duran @135
I think Duran would win by UD but you have to remember that regardless of what people think, Duran did not have the greatest competition at lightweight. His greatest competition came in the 1980s when he had the luxury of using the excuse that he was slowing down or too high in weight. I think he wins a UD against Shane. I used to think he would knock out Shane but I have been thinking about Duran's lightweight competition. Alot of guys on his record were good but not great at all. Buchanan and Viruet and DeJesus being the best of the lot, and they were not that great. So you would have to say Shane at lightweight would be one of the best guys Duran ever fought, and Shane had I think over 200 amatuer fights. I do not see demolishing by Duran here. No way. His lightweight competition was not that great. But he was a great fighter for having 70-1 record when he fought Ray. But fact Sugar Ray Leonard was very inexperienced and he fought Duran's fight and still Duran could not stop an inexperienced fighter. Duran fought well against the guys who stood in front of him and gave him the shots to land. In a way his style is good for bigger guys who think they can outpunch him. As for Ray,then Ray came back and beat him easily in two fights. Could Shane have beat him? Who knows.. It would have been hard for Duran. I give him the benefit just because he fought at Lightweight longer and had more wins there.

12 rounds Mosley would win 15 rounds Duran would win.

Duran
He was an absolute beast at 135
You have to keep in mind, when Leanard got Roberto,Duran had been fighting for 12 years, and had to come up in weight for the fight

come up in weight 12 pounds when he later could weigh 230 just 5 years later? I do not think that was that big a deal to gain 12 pounds after so many years. Hearns moved up and fought Virgil Hill 30 pounds more than he fought Ray Leonard. Yet in that case Hearns won also and against a more experienced guy. Duran gets more credit than he should for some wins. If he were around now and he beat Zab Judah, people would act he beat Mayweather. Yet then when he did fight Mayweather, he would lose a decision and people would say he was too heavy or had the flu when he fought. He always has been given considerations. Duran was a great fighter but overrated. No way do I think he warrants 1-10 p4p.. Maybe 20-30. As for the Leonard fight, I think it was more of a disadvantage to Leonard the inexperience than the weight for Duran. Didn't Duran beat Palomino easily enough? Although Carlos Palomino was overrated as are most West Coast fighters from Westminster Boxing club in Orange County. Jackie McCoy and Noah Cruz (Westminster Boxing) were not the most honest guys, not that honesty in boxing is the norm. Duran didn't have weight problems he had style problems. He had his feet wide apart always and if a guy were willing to stand and try and throw punches he did well, but when the guy would box and move and use the ring Duran was usually outfought. And I do not mean close fight, I mean UDs.. Look before I thought Duran KO Shane, but then I have been thinking about this Duran admiration stuff and looking at the stats. Shane is the type of guy who could beat Duran. Mayweather also. Delahoya? I am not sure. Probably but that would be harder since his handspeed is not as great as Mosley or Mayweather and he liked to hit guys and stay there for them. Why did Duran beat Barkley later? Barkley stood in front of him, which is the kind of guy he likes.

Of course all but 1 of his losses came after he came up in weight
That sole loss at 135 he avenged by knockout, not once but twice by knockout

Although 15 rounds is a long way to go. but you guys have to remember, Duran's competition at lightweight was not that great. Had he fought the same guys at higher weights he fought at lightweight he might have kept winning.

His competition was not that great in my mind at lightweight. You think Guts was good? Dejesus was probably the only really good guy of all the guys he fought at lightweight, but no where near the legends he fought in the 80s. Buchanan was a guy with less than 50 percent knockout ratio. And the only win against a real legend he had was Ray and that was avenged easily twice. How many losses did Chavez have before he lost to Randall when he had 80 or 90 fights? None. So is Chavez better than Duran? I think he had the better competition from 130 to 140 and his record was better, yet what Duran did which Chavez did not was fight the legends Hagler,Hearns,Leonard, which he did not beat really, but by association it helped Duran's legacy. It is so easy for me to see how Duran's style was not the best with boxers. Would a guy like Mayweather beat him?? Probably. Would Judah? No.. Duran took care of the pretender boxers like Judah and knocked them out, but the guys who were really good he did not beat. Regardless of excuse of weight, stomach ache, no training, too old etc etc etc. I hope I am not making people mad since Duran is a hero to some. He was a good champion who was dominant and then he went up and fought in a great era. Case about Duran fans using selective reasoning. Wilfred Benitez beat Duran in Jan 1982 when Duran was 30- not too old considering Duran fought his last fight 20 years after this.. And Wilfred won his first title at 140 in 1977.. Duran won his first title in 1972 at 135.. Duran was just outboxed by a guy who was his size and really who moved up to 154 from 140.. And he was beaten easily. The Benitez fight is never mentioned about Duran, yet the Hagler one people say, wow he almost beat Marvin. He gets considerations. Again I say, when Hearns beat Hill when he was 32 years old and Hill was an undefeated Light heavyweight champion, no one really gave Tommy the respect. Duran gets considerations when he does well and people forget when he lost.
Re: Shane Mosley Vs Roberto Duran @135
He KOed an undefeated Lou Bizzarro, one of only two losses hed ever suffer
He sent Ray Lampkin to the hospital after their fight
Only 2 other guys ever beat Dejesus, once when he tried to go up in weight for a title fight, and his very last fight
Your compairing the golden age of the middle weights,to an age where most of the light weights carried losses
And the end of the day Duran did hold the lighweight title for 5 years, before he moved up in weight, winning most of his fights by KO or TKO
