But this doesn't really answer the question of why does a fight from 2002 have anything to do with the prime Floyd Mayweather of 2007?

But of course I'm not talking about the fanatics (btw, I'm one too ;D), cuz they're beyond reason, and nothing particularly unusual about that, though. ;)
well chavez was 28 when he was getting schooled vs meldrick taylor for first 11 rounds
You might have a point there, son. Boxing ol' timers like me have to depend on his memory and they do fail sometimes... I'm not much concerned about Mayweathers skill, but I'm much concerned with his shaky chin. How would he fare against big punchers like Chavez... CC for you, kid...
All right, fellas, I'll give any of you CC's even if you disagree with me - AS LONG AS YOU TALK SENSE.
cc back bro

If Mayweather had of fought Tszyu we might have a better guide, I think Mayweather by decision in a close one. The Whitaker fight sways me considerably in favour of Mayweather.
how would PBF fighting Kostya be a better guide to if PBF could beat chavez
Chavez was at his best at 140lb, who did Mayweather fight at 140 that was any good?
Of course fighting Tszyu would have been a better guide as he hit harder than any 140 ponder ever.
Could have seen the Chicken dance part 2 if that fight had of happened in 2002.
Re: Chavez would have killed Mayweather
lets not forget that the first castillo fight was PBFs first fight at 135

It showed what bothered Floyd....I am 100% sure it still does, he hasn't fought anyone since then that fights like JLC.
Yes it was his first fight at 135 BUT it's Jose Luis Castillo....it's not like he fought someone GREAT.
It was a tough fight and one of the only risks that Floyd has taken in his career

i disagree meldrick taylor was boxing chavez head off until he got stupid and brawled and whitaker gave chavez boxing lesson so how would chavez kill mayweather if he couldnt really land clean punch 8)
Yeh pretty much exactly what i thought..Lol..Chanez beats a fair few names out there nowadays in my opinion..But not the great boxers and especially not floyd...
Sounds to me like you are underestimating chavez
nothing to do with that its just when taylor and whitaker two great technical fights fought him they boxed his head off taylor was giving chavez clinic until he got stupid and brawled something mayweather would never do and whitaker outboxed chavez easily for 12 rounds and was robbed i think mayweather uses same gameplan as whitaker and wins decision
Yeah spot on....Taylor, SRL, SRR, Whittaker, ODLH, Mayweather all had the kinda style to win a decision comfortably over JCC, thats if they stuck to there gameplan.

Actually one fight I would love to see if it was at all possible is Floyd Mayweather VS Pernell Whitaker.......
You're about to see a 170 pound version of that- Wright/Hopkins.
Re: Chavez would have killed Mayweather
IMO it would be a 40/60 fight in Mayweathers favor. But the truth is nobody could say for certian what would happen.
Thats why we all love boxing.
