Re: Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins
To me, it's just a matter of whether Hopkins can penetrate Winky's gloves or not (Taylor did but he was just on the run most of the time). On the second thought, maybe not only that cuz Hopkins sometimes comes up with surprising moves like the one he did on Tarvers. I'm not much impressed with Winks and I don't think it needs much skill to cover the face and throwing jabs and straights most of time. The way ol' Quartey gave him hard time leaves me some doubt (yea, Winks did win most rounds no doubt, but it wasn't an easy win as the score seems to indicate cuz Quartey was able to pester him throughout.). But good for him cuz Hopkins is probably way past his prime.

Have you ever boxed? its sounds like you haven't because if you did or do you would know its extremely hard to fight like Wright... If you do box try to emulate his style... Also he dominated Quartey who is way faster than B-Hop.

Yup, but no a serious one. But I'm a karateman, a real one from Okinawa. I've sparred a lot and I know most people here won't believe me but I can punch better than most top boxers, p4p. I've mastered the art of punching and can comfortably say I know everything about punching. But well we're not talking here about punching so I won't go any further. About the Quartey fight, there are some experts, not that I believe in them, who held the same view as me. Ya, Winks dominated in the sense he won most rounds no doubt, but each of those rounds were hard earned. C'mon Taeth, I know you're a fan but open your eyes sometimes. Then you can see clearly ol' Quartey was able to pester Winks most of the time. He was just way too small for Winks.

Absolute snoozefest. I just don't see the fireworks.
I agree, yes they are 2 tactical technical fighters, and in that aspect it will be a great fight but I mean what does that mean? And Winky should not be fighting at 170. Will this fight be $50? No FWOCKING WAY would I say that much!!
Yeh tactically it will be intriguing but its a fight that i couldn't watch if i was tired....if ya get me.
Re: Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins
It should be JC they are fighting not each other, yawn. JC should also be fighting Kessler.

As a martial artist myself, I know that Karate or pretty much any number of martial arts you can master throw punches better than a boxer. They've done studies and boxing has the best technique for getting the most power the most efficiently. You can't tell how hard they are punching outside the ring, but even in Pros vs. Joes Roy Jones Jr. wasn't even putting anything behind his punches and joes couldn't handle it. Also Winky did have trouble a few rounds, but for most of the fight he was literally dominating, and doing things you probably wouldn't notice as a novice boxer. Also of Quartey's punches that "landed" were dissipated and evaded enough for them to not do much damage. Also Quartey fights a much different fight than Hopkins.
Re: Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins

Barrera can box off teh front or backfoot plus Mexican prides at stake . We know how Marco fights Mexicans. He was a boxer but reverted back to brawler in the 3rd Erik fight .IMO theres no danger of this being a bore
Winky and Hopkins , I cant see it being anything other than a 12 round fight with no knockdowns but it will be entertaining for the purists I suppose
Re: Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins
Many of you will be suprised with Hopkins' yet again another performance & his ring skills and tactics will be enough for him to get the nod.

But his props to fight Winky now but this fight should have take place around 165 to 168 lb. Too much weight advantage for b-hop.
Winky is boring as hell but very skill boxer I just hope he wins and take the garbage(B-Hop) out for good.
LOL I can Smell the Sad Clicks coming  ;D

Re: Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins
I love Bernard but why couldn't he just stay retired?! His last fight was a great great way to go out, he boxed wonderfully and beat a punk for the Light Heavyweight Championship of the World. Now, he decides to fight Winky Wright, at 170 lbs no less. IMO this is the LEAST exciting or lucrative opponent he could have faced, well its a toss up between Winky and Maskaev, Winky much more skilled, Maskaev much bigger more power etc. I would have MUCH rather have seen B-hop vs Jones II, or B-hop vs Calzaghe. But it was not meant to be. Anyway, Bernard can hurt Winky and Winky cannot hurt Bernard. Also I believe Bernard to be the better boxer of the two, I think he will outbox Winky and win this fight. Will it be a high stakes dramatic fight? Yep. Will it be action packed? Nope.
Re: Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins
Just to put a little perspective on the other side, I think B-Hop chose this fight because of the p4p factor. Seeing that Winky was the only one within his weight range ahead of him on the list besides Taylor, I think that's surely the motivator in this case. To test himself against the best in the world and hoping a convincing win vaults him back up near the top of the list again before retiring.
Whereas Winky takes this fight for the obvious reason that he could very well win this fight and add a name like Bernard Hopkins to his resume.
Now if Hopkins wins, it'll probably push him up the p4p list and he could retire off into the sunset with a p4p victory over a belt which I doubt he really cares about right now.
And if he loses, critics will say Winky just beat an old Hopkins anyways. It wouldn't take away from Hopkins' career.
So in that sense, I can understand why Hopkins would take this fight.
I would MUCH rather see the BH - Calzaghe fight, but I can understand.
