Re: Who are the best boxing fans in the world?
I'm disappointed in you, Bilbo. You left out one of the major boxing powerhouses in the international scene..... Puerto Rico. The question of who are the best boxing fans in the world is sure to bring out some biased answers (most notably my own... heh, heh). But championship fights here in Puerto Rico will pack whatever venue hosts the fight. And thinking back to Tito's win over De La Hoya... the reception here in Puerto Rico when Tito came back from Las Vegas was awesome to behold.
Re: Who are the best boxing fans in the world?
I may be jaded/influenced but the atmosphere at a Ricky Hatton fight, Calzaghe vs Lacy, Moore vs Macklin I've been to 6 fights under that catergory and every time it has been like a 3 hour orgasm, only sweatier and a bit more homoerotic :o Wacko calm down babe ;)

Well said TitoFan
How can you forget a country who's only 2 major sports are boxing and baseball?? Thats it, and we don't just have just 1 page or just 1 or 2 articles on our local newspapers when it comes to boxing, we have a whole section dedicated to the sport (sometimes a couple of pages at that). Not to mention that after a big fight (like Tito vs. Oscar) we made up our own holiday the following Monday and no one went to work and school was out!! I think it's pretty big when the government shuts shit down because of a single fight!
So i am a little disappointed you forgot the puertoricans ;D
But still i think we one of the best and deserve to be even mentioned :D

And the Brits try to say that they are the ones who perfected the English language.... :D
Re: Who are the best boxing fans in the world?
Puerto Rican fans are superb,as are Mexican fans. I mean Mexicans follow any/all of their fighters with a passion that is hard to match. I'd alos like to nominate Manny Pacquiao fans, the noise when he enters an arena is amazing(watch the Morales fights) and the fact that SOOOOOOOO many peeps fly over from the Phillipines to watch him fight Stateside is amazing! I find the fans who have travelled the furthest are the loudest!
Re: Who are the best boxing fans in the world?
fisrt i should start by saying that i am english.now....the british certainly make the most noise, make the most intimadating atmosphere and travel in the greatest numbers (lewis in US always sounded like home fights).however i am embarrassed by our lack of respect for opponents,i have to say that american fans beat us hands down in this respect. The english do not often praise opponents performances, after lewis-holyfield 1 i was greatly heartened by the outrage shown by american boxing fans.that would not have been seen if the situaton was reversed.
ps manfredo will freeze when confronted with 50,000 screaming, spiting brits this saturday.i will be one of them (minus the spitting, screaming)

Goood post but i disagree with you on your comments about the Americans being outraged , plenty of times British fighters have got the shit end of the stick Stateside and nobody has bothered their arse !!
American fans are much much more fickle British fans will support shit fighters to the bitter end in huge numbers whilst good British fighters couldnt sell out the front room .
Ricky Hatton being a good fighter is hugely popular but he was selling out the MEC way before he was world champion or had proved himself at anything near European Level .
I think we like the boy next door its often said that Brits prefer a plucky loser rather than a bad winner i think thats to a certain extent true but i think british fans like their sportsman to have a strain of humanity and humbleness we like the cheeky chappy a little too much .
I had my doubts on the way up about Hatton i thought he was hyped but i still liked him still watched all his fights compare him to Scott Harrison who won a world title in good style but never caught on with the Scottish public because everybody knew he was an absoloute arsehole and a nasty bit of work .
British fans though as you stated can be really embarrasing to be around their iggnorance and loyalty to their boy really pisses me off .
Case in point, Richard Williams on the way up turning heads looking good gets his shot at the Commenwealth title in my hometown against Tony Badea .
On the night its a pretty poor turnout but the fans who do turn out are Mainly Micheal Alldiss supporters ( Crawley Boy ) they make alot of noise get behind their boy fair enough he wins a routine 8 rounder .
I turned up to see the main event Richard Williams i go to the toilet come back and the arena is all but empty except for a a few die hards and 50 of Richards supporters .
Richard ends up putting on a clinic destroys his man and wins in 3 whilst Micheal Alldiss fans are getting pissed in the bar and fighting .
That about sums it up.
Brit fans will back their boy but sometimes i think they have no idea what their watching .

We'll never nail this for gospel will we? ;D
Zale was of Polish extraction and i belive fought out of the Steel city of Pitsburg and delivered the best KO possibly i have ever seen against Rocky Graziano (got it on tape) Right to the body then a killer left hook to the head.
Love that KO.
