Uhh you have to be kidding me  ???
even you don't agree with that...46 is toooooooooooooooo low....surely he's top 10...and according to system they used to compile their list he's easily top 5..
Well he is too low but he isn't top 10 or top 5 for certain.
Depends how you rank it. By actually who beats who He would beat almost everyone in the top 10 p4p. If you are going by prestige, number of fights, most quality opponents, and things like that then he should be in the 30's or 40's.
Oh yes no doubt skill wise he is top 10 easy but this is about best fighters who they fought who they beat ect and based on that he is about 40s or high 30s.
Re: ESPN Lists Top 50 Boxers of All Time
Putting aside me thinking the fighters nowadays would beat the guys 60 or 70 years ago I think that Ezzard Charles and Billy Conn should be farther up the list, and I wouldn't put Henry Armstrong ahead of Willie Pep. Also I would put Gene Tunney a lot higher along with Tony Canzoneri and Joe Frazier. I don't see how they place Marciano ahead of Joe Frazier... Or Archie Moore ahead of Ezzard as good as he was. I also think Sonny Liston should be up there somewhere.
Re: ESPN Lists Top 50 Boxers of All Time
There is zero logic behind this list. They may as well have drawn names out of a hat.
Re: ESPN Lists Top 50 Boxers of All Time
I can't see a classical top ten list not comprising of
Ali(1 or 2)
Robinson(1 or 2)
Willie Pep(3 or 4)
Henry Armstrong(or 4)
Duran(6)
Ezzard Charles(7)
Benny Leonard(8)
Gene Tunney(9)
Joe Louis(5)
The last person could be anyone, but they hit the top ten pretty well except Jack Johnson and Dempsey IMO. I would probably use Conn.
Re: ESPN Lists Top 50 Boxers of All Time
howcome they dont mention bantan fly or straweight boxers they
there needs to be a old and a modern list
i think marciano is top 10
no zarazoga no pryor no eubanks i hope i think bob foster should be in the list
espn is living in the 50

I can't see a top 10 list without Jimmy wilde full top. not because i am welsh, he may not have had the biggest names on his record, but he damn sure is top 10 if not top 5 p4p in the world ever

Mick mate...thanlk you for making me feel better that I'm not the only one to get way drunk and post on the forum, making varying degrees of sense.
As a WElshman, its nice to see Jimmy Wilde up there, as he has inspired generation after generation of boxers from our country, and he is an all time great no doubt. CC for Preme, you took the words right out of my mouth...but also, I think as this is an all-time list we can't put contemporary boxers like RJJ too high, because who knows what he still has to do in the sport???

A lot of people don't agree with the lists, and I'm one of 'em.

pfp. I think Jones is a great fighter but Roy is not top 5. He dominated fighters which were great possibly Virgil Hill and James Toney and Bernard Hopkins but that does not make him top 5. That is a lofty place for any fighter. Roy did not commit to boxing enough to be 5.. And anyway, this is of all time. Anyone on this list is in good position.

THe only reason I am rating these guys higher than Mayweather's, Holyfield, Lewis', Whitaker's, Jones', etc. is because of their opposition. I don't think Jimmy is top ten IMO because he didn't fight the same guys these guys did I put in the top ten did. I would definitely have to put guys like Conn above him, and even Dempsey.

Nobody had more talent than Roy JOnes Jr. who ever boxed... nobody even had close to his natural abilities. Furthermore nobody made the same level of opposition look as easy as he did.
Re: ESPN Lists Top 50 Boxers of All Time
In all honesty marciano should not be in a top 50 list unless its heavyweight/ko artist exclusive. He only had 4 title defenses and was technically horrible but he would whoop on any heavy.
