larry holmes vs lennox lewis

Listen holmes has a better chin then lewis and is faster then lewis and that is all i am going to say

I am not asking you to disect the pereiods of their careers when they fought, I just think that you should check out Holmes' era if you think Lewis fought some bums ;)

As I've stated before I think Holmes would UD Lewis, but you won't find many better resumes in history than Lewis

Most of these guys you have just mentioned were already victims im not sure if you know what i mean by that i'll you a example.

Ruddock= Tyson already beat him twice

Morrison= Bentt already finished him in less than 2 minutes and Mercer almost killed Morrison

Mercer= Holyfield already beat him Holmes did and Jesse ferguson ??? enuff said

Golota= now i give him alot of credit for this win considering Golota battered Bowe twice

Tucker= Tyson already got to him BIG H and was 35 if i remember

Briggs= got a gift off Foreman actually forget that it was a robbery and he also got stopped in 3 rounds by that
other mediocre chump but i can't remember his name at moment

Akiwande= the hugger ?? well he may of had good record but imo he isn't that good of a fighter more of a hugger than a fighter im sure your agree


I won't go into the others but what im saying is that most of Lewis's best wins were washed up fighters like Holyfield and Tyson i give Lewis credit and im not saying Holmes beat better opp but he did dominate his era and beating some good undefeated fighters like.

Earnie Shavers just before he fought Holmes in 1st fight he almost beat Ali and in 2nd fight with Holmes just before he fought Holmes he destroyed Norton in 1.

Ken Norton some may say he was washed up but i disagree he almost beat Ali and he also beat Jimmy Young who was just coming off giving Foreman a boxing lesson.


I give Lewis credit for beating.

Andrew Golota

Gary Mason because of his power and because Lewis only had like 14 fights at that time
Ruddock because of how early he done

And thats about it really i don't give him much credit for Mercer because he should of handled Mercer alot easier yet he made it alot of hard work and Mercer was never a great boxer and imo the fight was a draw.

You've just disected all of his opponents which was not the point, becuase you can do that with almost every heavyweight in history. Lewis' era and Lewis' opponetnts blitz Holmes' era and Holmes' oppoistion period!!

Still say Larry would win, but please Lewis' opposition just isn't comparable

These wins are very similar because Cooney and Golota were undefeated and were considered very dangerous at that time and were both the next white hope.

Ali and Tyson two similar victorys aswell both were way past it when they got beaten and both are legends ;)

Lewis beat a very old Holyfield and this could compare with Holmes beating Ken Norton who was getting on a bit aswell but Holyfield was more past it than Norton.

Lennox Lewis beat very dangerous puncher Ruddock Holmes beat very dangerous puncher Shavers.

Actually there are few for similarities than you think

This is the part when Lewis's opposition is better because Lewis beat alot more goodish opposition than Holmes but compare there best wins there isn't that much difference.

Did Holmes actually win the Witherspoon and Williams fights - they seem to be debatable?

Holmes just about won the Witherspoon fight and Williams fight well actually Williams was ahead 3 rounds at one point but lost last 4 rounds and Holmes just stole it by a point.

Holmes would KO Lewis by drop kicking him off the bonnet of a Punto

In the battle of the Jabs i think Larry would take this one hands down in a UD.

I pick Lewis late KO.

larry holmes at his best would beat lewis like a drum , trust me. the jab the footwork, everything holmes did was better, larry had great rhythm in his prime . holmes wins either by late r stoppage or blanket dec victory

Larry on his toes pumping that jab to a close UD. Lennox comes on late and even puts larry down once but gets outworked, frustrated and outboxed for most of the fight.

Lennox Lewis did not like jabbers & Holmes had the 2nd best jab in HW history (I would only rate Liston's higher, for power, though not as sharp as Holmes' jab).

Larry could control an entire fight with his jab.

If the ponderous Frank Bruno could outjab Lewis, then Larry would have jabbed his head off.

To be fair to Lewis, he was not in his boxing prime in 1993. He was still reckless & Right hand happy under Pepe Correa at that time.

The Lewis of 1997 - 2001 would have been a different proposition.
