You may of done it for short time but you wouldn't do it in proper amateur fight like Ali done it because you would get beaten to a pulp and its not very good tactic im sorry Adam you sound nice chap and by the sounds of it your good fighter but this is where we disagree it worked for Ali and fair play but it wouldn't work for most people and if it does there going to have some bad damage when they have finished there boxing career.

No, I mean I've went on the inside with a stronger fighter and block, turned, deflected or simply absorbed what the other lad threw... then inbetween his bursts scored more accurate shots off combos when he was fatigued and couldn't defend as cleanley... this WAS in a proper amatuer bout... of course I wouldn't try and do it quite like Ali did... I'm in the ring half the time... and the scoring works completely differently... you'd have bruised arms and a loss on your record! :P
Simply saying that I've won fights on the inside similarly TWICE and it's not just a case of holding your arms up... you've always got to be thinking... infighting like that gets a lot of stick... called scrappy etc because it doesn't look good... but you've always got to be thinking ahead... excuse the cliche... but it's like chess! ;)
It's also worth remembering that I was fighting a door man from birtley who'd had as many bouts as I had... not George foreman! :P

And there in lies what makes the rope a dope fight so special(and so often caveated with"Dont ever try that")nobody thought Ali could have gotten away with that with Foreman.Certainly not Dundee,who was having a coniption every time Ali came back to the corner,only to be met with "Ive got a plan"

ali used ropes as a strategy.......the ropes is what spells the end, and ali freakin used them 2 beat george foreman.
there is one problem with ali...he plays around 2 much, and did not take alotta fights seriously. if he took the fight against young seriously he would have trained hard and ko young with in 3. cooper he played around and got floored 4 it. got floored 4 playing aound w/ the wepner fight also. but when he takes fights seriously and gets down 2 it.he is simply the greatest.
has robinson ever beaten a fighter who was looked at as indestructable?
cuz ali has beaten 2, and made them both look like amateurs

Ali plays around in most of his fights and if you seriously think he would of koed Young in 3 you are seriously wrong Young would give Ali fits because of his style when Young is on form he is tough nights work for anyone he outboxed Foreman and took flush shots like in the 7th.

You can tell when he respected a guy in the 60s,hed fight them to a point,and then end them
If it lasted,he was torturing them,and he was doing it on purpose

I think Ali was a great fighter. Best ever who knows. That might be reserved for a guy like Sugar Ray Robinson.

yes he still would be condidered great! ali was past it by the time he fought norton. ali was at his best in the 60's

He didn't really have competition in 60s like in 70s so you can't really say that yes he was better but he didn't really have competition in 60s except Patterson and very old Liston.
