....all I can say to that is "ignorance knows no political or geographic boundries" there are assholes here in the US and there are assholes everywhere else.
Well I like Americans personally, but they, Americans ,more for political reasons, and over-nationalistic beliefs tend to be hated around the world. As a Canadian I know people from Europe and asia treat us better if they know we are Canadian as opposed to American.
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
IMO it goes back to the kindergarden rule, treat others like you would like to be treated, all i know is that if anyone were to boo my anthem (Puerto Rico) i would be offended big time, especially when i would have the respect to remain quiet and standing while yours is going, it's common courtesy
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
I dont recall if we got to hear national anthems on Setanta. Its a horrible thing though to boo another nations tune, it happens at England football matches all the time and frankly its embarrassing.
A definite no no as far as Im concerned, those who do it ought to be ashamed of themselves. I remember this discussion from a while back and some people passed it of as a big of harmless fun. Knock knock jokes are harmless fun, insulting a huge amount of people isnt funny at all.
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
They shouldn't play national anthems in sporting events anyway. It is a pointless exercise.
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
Do they play each team's national anthem in futball or soccer?
If so, is it customary for the other fans to boo the other's anthem?
If so, we are not used to this here. I've never seen it at a boxing match.
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
In soccer there is generally a lack of respect for national anthems at international matches
Booing, loud whistling or other stupid things. No claas, no respect and no selfrespect i think
If you have to downgrade someone else to make a statement then you don't get the full picture of being well mannered and having values and morals

Isn't there always riots at stadiums? heh
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
chanting 'mexico' 'usa' same flipside of the coin as the 'boo'. Panto season.
I don't stand for anyones national anthem not yours, not ours, what's the point of it?
I always walk out or sit down and I don't care what people think. At least I am thinking and not being a mindless sheep or just doing it in case I get picked on for not doing it.

Why call someone a mindless sheep if that person respects where you are coming from ?
Maybe people are being polite when they silence during a national anthem

But as great as it was to see all those thousands who traveled to see Hatton-Castillo (and to hear their inventive songs about him), many of those same fans displayed disgusting and disrespectful behavior. You didn't see it on HBO's broadcast because it happened just before the telecast began, but they booed throughout the American and Mexican national anthems. That's like school on Saturday: No class.
I'm not overly-patriotic, so normally stuff like this doesn't bother me... but it still shows a lack of class.
Our British Fans in Boxing and Football aren't very classy at all. Theres far worse but were pretty bad.
It feels right though. Im actually compelled to 'boo' too :-\
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
I'm oldschool on this one, I think you should keep you gob shut when other national anthems are playing and sing your heart and when yours is playing
What's wrong with having some national pride - some miserable fukkas about

I just think there are better ways to express national pride. Our national anthem is about saving the fucking queen. It has nothing to do with sport, so seriously, whats the point?
