Let's be honest here, this isn't exactly how it went down.
Roy said he'd fight Tyson or Lewis,
if he was paid $100 million for the fight. This is the oldest trick in the book, it's called "intentionally pricing yourself out of a fight."
Now I don't blame Roy at all for not wanting to fight Lennox, but let's not make it seem like Lewis is the one who backed down.
i know...lennox said no one was going pay for a two round fight..implying that he'd kayo jones....besides there wasn't any need for jones to fight lennox....

are you forgetting that rjj started at 154? ali was an amateur HW...the fact that many wonder how he would have done against the great heavy's of alltime is a subconscious concession to the fact that he's p4p the best boxer ever.....

Easy to say that but Gerald charges right at you and im not sure if Roy can avoid Geralds bombs for that long its a toss up.
Charges right at you, eh? Check out Jones v.Brannon to see how Roy dealt with that.

This really hit home for me as i find it incredibly similar to HBO's attitude toward the Hatton/Castillo fight. Both Ruiz/Castillo were forces to be reckoned with before the fight in all interviews, promotions and were mentioned severeal times in preceeding fights. To be honest although they do provide a good coverage, I personally am becoming increasingly frustrated with HBO's cast's attitude toward boxing. But all Props to Big George Foreman.
ok
Here is some interesting ranting at least the first 3 are funny
;D
Why do Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant seem to dislike George Foreman -their previous partner- so much? - Yahoo! Answers
It has to do with what you have been saying.

Exactly. Not has good a fighter as G-Man but this is similar to what he would have done to him. This is a good fight to show how good Roy was both defensively and offensively.

:rolleyes:All i remember is that all chances of Ruiz winning were taken away by Nady after about 20 seconds. Same thing happened with Hatton against Mayweather.
Strange the two poster boys for American boxing getting help.
No doubt they probably would have won. I wonder how Oscar vs Pacquaio turns out

Come on give credit where its due! Mayweather and Jones were just far too good for Hatton and Ruiz, plain and simple. The referees weren't great but there you go. If your good enough you can overcome that. And I am a big Hatton fan so you can't accuse me of being a hater or anything.
Re: Just Re-watched Jones vs. Ruiz...Interesting lil detail
Ok enough with all this Roy Jones Jr was great but not the greatest some where in the top 20 i give him that no more. He would of had problems with Micheal Spinks and few others that were mentioned in the LHW and as HW he loses to all the greats for god sake he beat Ruiz big deal. He was not the champ he was a chump with a trinket belt thats all. Now if he fought Lennox Lewis then i would of gave him props for it. But i dont blame Roy Jones Jr for not wanting to fight Lennox Lewis because he would of killed Roy Jones Jr. Wait you know what i wish he would of fought Lennox Lewis i like to see him put into a coma just joking i dont hate Roy Jones Jr i just hate his fans they just overrate the guy way to much.

Yeah, I thought it was really cowardly on Merchant and Lampley's part. People can say what they want about Ruiz but he was a good solid heavyweight. And for them to suddenly turn around and say all those things was just rediculous because it was disrespectful to Ruiz who was out there giving it his all, and it was disrespectful to Jones because it was downplaying what a fantastic achievement that really was.

"ruiz ain't shit, he ain't a real heavy" "He can't be lennox, or mike tyson"
And right then i knew that no matter what Roy jones did in the ring some people would not be satisfied until he loses..and soon as tarver landed the luckiest punch in the history of big name fighters being kayoed the voices did exactly what was confirmed to me that night in 2003...
"i told you roy jones wasn't shit"
That's why i'm glad i said
"if Roy jones beats Ruiz no matters what happens afterwards RJJ is the best boxer/fighter since Ray Robinson" and IMO still is.....
Right, that was a lucky punch. And it was all the weight loss that caused him barely "win" the first Tarver fight. Roy Jones is the best fighter since Robinson? Roy was a great fighter, yeah, but that's a bit of a stretch.

Actually Ali was olympic LHW champ. Roy is the the best p4p ever? You state the like an indisputable fact. You don't even have the sense to say "one of" or "arguably." Even that is a stretch. You are serious, Preme-level, nuthugger. That's not even debatable.

First of all I'm the biggest RJJ fan of all. I absolutley love watching the guys fights. But you will never ever hear me saying he would have a chance with an all time great HW (which is what Lennox is). He is simply just not big enough he is not even a natural LHW to me although I do think he is the greatest LHW in history. But I don't believe that I should be hated for fighting my guys corner as you said "i just hate his fans they just overrate the guy way to much". I don't hate anyones fans at the end of the day you like who you like.

Same as how Tszyu had no chance of beating Hatton after 20 seconds when cheat Parris let Ricky hold, hug, low blow and headbutt all he liked. Strange how the British poster boy got help in Britain.
Re: Just Re-watched Jones vs. Ruiz...Interesting lil detail
I think its safe to say that if Roy beats calzaghe no one can say anything.
Except the people who say "Joe aint a natural light heavyweight"
In my opinion if you are going to use an excuse for why someone loses, then don't tell everyone and their mom that they will win the fight.
Why can't people just admit when they're wrong?
If Im playing Soul Calibur and i get beat I don't say "this controller is messed up."
