M.Ali (a very very talented boxer but not top 1 or 2 p4p great as i have seen written on this forum many a time)
Jermaine Taylor (has been in the p4p rankings for sometime now and i think he still is isn't he? IMO he has the skills but just doesn't use them and he wouldnt be in the top 10 p4p rankings if he wasnt American)
Jeff Lacy (Was predicted to do great things in the 168lb division by the Americans but came completely unstuck when he faced Calzaghe)
Anyways.... Im not trying to be anti American here im just stating my opinion and wanted to know if anyone else agrees/disagrees and the reasons why. Cheers
Maybee you missed the contender challenge. Who is the best p4p right now. Thats right Mayweather. Im offended.

Yeah Mayweather does deserve to be at the top im not arguing that point but B Hopkins? W Wright? J Taylor? IMO none of these three deserve to be in the top 10 p4p, in the past yes but not now. If none of these 3 were American they wouldn't be there im pretty damn sure of that. As for the Contender i wouldn't go taking that too seriously, its a tv program at the end of the day.

Dirty B-Hop, Winky and Taylor would without no doubt get their ears boxed off against a Kessler - but they are all top 10 p4p............and Kessler is not even top 25 in EU......
Re: American Boxers Overrated?
Present fighters ok, but Ali? Or even Tyson. I don't think so.

Until someone proves otherwise Hopkins is on the P4P list where he belongs.....2 losses close losses in 11 years tehn jumping 2 weight classes to claim the LH ring title is damn impressive....Who else has done it?...Especially at 42
Re: American Boxers Overrated?
Agreed Daxx..and how can anyone say Winky doesn't belong? He has one of the most impressive resumes out of any boxer right now. Annihilated a prime Trinidad, Drew with an undefeated Taylor and beat Mosely twice. I don't think Americans are over-rated. They're just more exposed as Vegas seems to be the boxing capital and if you are making waves you seem to end up there (or want to end up there for the money) Not even half of the P4P list is American anyway?? You have Pacquaio, Marquez brothers, Cotto, Hatton and Calzaghe etc But if you notice most of them have had some exposure to the American boxing world. So I don't think the actual boxers themselves are over rated, no.
Re: American Boxers Overrated?
Not overrated!!!! The average level of talent is MUCH higher in the US...European fighters usually have an easier road to the top because of less competition in their perspective countries. In the US all too often a fighter is narly spent by the time he gets his big shot from many wars he had trying to get there.
You don't see as many "padded" records in the US as you see in European fighters examples are endless...
Are there great european fighters ABSOLUTELY but US fighters cannot be considered overrated, imo...

Welcome to the form Mate Have your First CC on me....( Wacko is in Vegas right now or else he is the one who usually hands those out)
Your absolutely correct. Most of the P4P list is guys from other countries...Yes America does get the most exposure though...Again like stated it has to do with USA being the place where most big fights take place nothing more nothing less
Some just tend to overlook that when trying to make a point ;)

Owns Calazaghe too. I think you forgot Harry Greb on that list of overrated Americans. Harry Greb was never a pound for pound guy. Yea Right :Sarcasm:

Hit it right on the button with that statement. in the U.K we have fighters with 40+ bouts undefeated records with no elite fighters on the list..(until around fight number 40)
If I look at American fighters resumes they tend to fight big names by around the 20th-25th pro bout mark. E.G Mayweather, Taylor, Oscar. Even Vargas!
So yeah there is definitely a lack of competition domestically elsewhere.

Yeah I threw that second rate club fighter on the list as well....Damn list keeps growing....How thew hell did we manage so many champions anyway ???
Re: American Boxers Overrated?
Im sorry but American boxers are not over rated far from it, the Heavyweight division is looking a bit bare form the American point of view, but for me the best fighters are still coming from America they have the majority of the best trainers, look at the kid Steven Luevano he came over and absolutly schooled the best boxer in Europe Nicky Cook, it was a one sided beat down, now this guy is not even known in America.
Re: American Boxers Overrated?
Funny about B-hop
He's been hip-tossed,had guys fight him with their trunks up around their nipples, etc, etc
But its B-hop thats dirty

B-Hop is more concerned that his forehead is gnubbing his opponents head than his jab. Sick fighter and so selective. Always awoiding the best EU boxers as Calzaghe, Kessler, Benn and Eubank
