Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
I've said it before, Calzaghe is a myth, he does not exist outside of the land of Narnia aka (Cardiff)
What a load of Bollocks telling Hopkins he has to wait, FFS Hopkins is a former undisputed Middleweight Champion and current LH Champ who has just had wins over Tarver and Wright. Calzaghe needs to get his hand off his own knobend and think about where his carreer is going.
Of course he may think he can't beat Kessler and it's a waste of time him thinking about Hopkins.
I would agree with him there!

Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
Hopkins is the greater fighter. Period. I want to see this fight happen as much as anyone, but Hopkins is not going to travel to the UK to fight Joe, and if that's what Calzaghe is saying he would have to do, this fight isn't happening. Hop may as well either retire or make the most meaningful fight he can at lightheavyweight, against Dawson. That wouldn't be a great legacy type fight on paper, but if he can show up and take out a young up and coming fighter at LHW there really is nothing more he can do.

I think if Roy Jones wins his next fight we could see a Hopkins v Jones rematch. Or Bhop could fight the winner of Pavlik v Taylor. Id rather see that than him fight Dawson.

Hopkins vs Pavlik would be intruiging.. I have 0 interest in seeing Hopkins and Taylor in the same ring together again though, although I could just hope that if it's at 168 Hopkins could let his hands go more often and KO that fag ;D.. Hopkins vs Jones doesn't do a lot for me either, though I would watch it for sure, I just don't think Roy has enough left to put up a good fight against a real elite fighter who isn't going to let him get away with his rope a dope BS.

100% AGREED .Why should he fight in the States when he can make more money where he is. If somebody offered yo a job overseas doing the ssame thing you are doing now for less money would you do it?
Maybe he will fight in Yankee stadium just so I can drive up and see him. Thanks Joe.LOL
When a basketball/baseball/hockey/football player starts nearing the end of his career, and he doesn't have a championship, what does he do?
He takes a pay cut and goes to the team that is most likely to win a championship! WHY? because at that point it isn't about money, it's about being a champion in everyones eyes, and getting that championship ring or cup.
This is the point in Calzaghe's career where he shouldn't be AS worried about money, and he should take the big name fights regardless of where they are. THEN he can be the champion he
THINKS he is already.
You can't make the comparison that you made about someone offering you a job overseas for less money, simply because you're comparing two different classes of people. If you're referring to someone who has to raise a family, then no they wouldn't take a pay cut, AND travel overseas, it wouldn't make any sense.
But when you're referring to a world boxing champ who is on national TV, has fans and PLENTY of critics watching him, and should already have LOADS of money, you're in a completely different conversation.
So using that logic why should Calzaghe be the one expected to travel?
Apparently you completely missed the point? i don't know.. the point was that he needs to do what he needs to do to become this great champion that he feels he is. and if that is crossing seas then thats what he needs to do.
I don't know if you've followed sports in the past decade, but a few examples could be when Payton/Malone went to the Lakers to form a disgusting team in hopes to win the ring.. or when Ray Bourque went to the Avalanche in hopes to win the cup.. Junior Seau is now on the Pats, got injured last year but is coming back this year.. These guys took a huge pay cut so that they could be in the winning team.
You shouldn't sad click due to your own stupidity of not understanding what i was trying to say.. you should understand before disagreeing..
The logic is that regardless of Joe being the "Champ" and ideally, people should be coming to him to fight the champ.. my point was that instead he shouldn't be bitching and moaning about the money that Bhop wanted or the money that he won't be getting in certain fights.. instead he should be worrying about defeating the best, regardless...
I can seafely say i have never heard of any of those sportsmen or teams you have just mentioned, what sport is it you are talking about? isn't this a boxing forum?

I don't play cool clicks/sad clicks i leave that to the other boys. What makes you think I didn't understand you? I asked you a question.
You're being very naive making a comparison between FIGHTERS and people that PLAY sport for a living. And even more naive in believing it's not about or shouldn't be about MONEY!!!
But...I'll ask again in a slightly different way - if it isn't about the money, and only about the best fighting the best, and Hopkins has now said Calzaghe is the man he WANTS, why isn't Hopkins willing to take the fight in Britain?

What sport does this occur in? They don't take a pay cut for championships. Usually it happens because they can't earn the money at that level because no fucker wants them. So they take the most money available.
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
I think after November everyone will be talking about Hopkins-Kessler.

Maybe cuz he's been running his mouth for years that he wants to come to the States. Or was it something that just sounded good? When is the last time you heard Hopkins saying he wants to go over seas? Never. Cuz he does not need to go. Hopkins is a already a Hall of Fame fighter. His legacy is set.
Calzaghe? I'm pretty sure he'll make it to the WBO Hall of Fame. Right next to that dead guy who moved up in the rankings from his grave.
He'll be in good company too alongside Cotto, Freitas and Corrales.. you know, the guys that stopped Casamayor and Kelson Pinto getting their hands on the much coveted belt. ;)

Why is it bollocks telling Hopkins he has to wait?! ::**
Calzaghe is facing off against a fighter many on here think will beat him. He is being sensible to concentrate on the task in hand rather than getting big ideas about future fights.
Hopkins so what if Hopkins was the long reigning Middleweight champ. He was the one that sidestepped SMW completely in his calculated path onwards to further glory. As good as those wins are for a man in his 40's, they were planned to a tee. Tarver looked awful against Jones the third time out and Winky jumped up almost 2 weight divisions.
Hopkins called out Calzaghe and Calzaghe is busy.
Hopkins can wait.
Re: Calzaghe says Hopkins has to wait
If you step back from the fans perspective a bit, this could just be the part of innevitable posturing that occurs in boxing.
Remember JC has possibly the biggest fight of his career coming up so he would want to be focused on that and soley on that. He seems to go way out of his way to insult Hopkins (Ol Popkins ::**), much more so than ive seen him ever do before. Its clear he's a bit miffed at Hopkins for some reason or another. JC would not want any distractions for the upcoming kessler bout, therefore he is at the same time goading and insulting Hopkins (either to goad him into securing a fight IF he beats Kessler or to put him off). People he seem to be talking as though JC has already beaten Kessler, there fight isnt until 3rd November. How can we be talking about making a fight at this stage its ridiculous.
In retrospect, Calzaghe's is putting Hopkins off for the immediate future, with the Kessler fight coming up that is the right idea.
