Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
I wish Khan's entourage would calm down during fights. Every time he hit Scott Lawton they leapt up out of their seats (probably blocking the view of everyone else) and went berserk. Repeatedly. I wish they would show a bit of dignity, after all Lawton barely landed a punch throughout.
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
What are you talking about dignity, your man is in the ring and winning, you would be jumping up and down like a lunatic if he was related to you. Sure his dad looks weird but that no reason to hate Amir.

Unless there ony there to see him get beat ::**

In this day and age, unfortunately, it doesn't help that they are muslim .... and the British pakistani youth are an easy target for radicalisation by some extremist organisations (because they are poor and disaffected). Pakistanis also retain striong ties with Pakistan, even if they have been in Britain a long time (like the Chinese do with China), they stick together and don't integrate well and that seems to be the source of some conflict too.
It's a shame, as I know loys of Pakistanis, but people tend to use stereotypes and generalisations about their entire community - and there are always a few arseholes on both sides to stir up trouble.
It's a shame, as Khan seems like a nice lad, dedicated and talented ... and it's not his fault.
Yeah, its impossible not to mention race. I mean, the poor kid is HAVING to wear union jack trunks...! Which im sure wasnt out of choice and im sure its simply to retain popularity within the mainstream audience.
Its all political really but hey... sign of the times peeps.
He's a good lad. Typical type for his age really. Apart from all the motivation, dedication etc ::**
I dont wish to see him fail by any means. Just realise that the mainstream audience is getting bored of watching him succeding against stiffs.

I would love Khan to dominate hes got speed and his power seems to be coming with age...
BUT for me the hype around him is uncalled for as his chin will let him down at a higher level.
i'm a fan of Witters, Froch is OK and was a massive Naz fan.
but for me Khan is a novice with a suss chin and gets far to much credit... no more no less ;)
Yeah, I agree completely with you Saddo, this has nothing to do with race it is purely that Khan can be cocky at times, and there is an awful lot of hype about him which naturally means jealousy. Hopefully he'll develop the defence to protect that chin and at least compete at proper international level.
:coolclick: s 1283 & 787 to ya bwoss & rhun.
Being a Yank...I probably shouldn't comment...but I kinda have to.
First & foremost...the kid's a Brit & it's ridiculous to even bring race up due to the tone of his skin or where his parents sprouted from. If Khan's shacked up in Brit-land then odds are he's Brit-land citi-zan...he fights for Brit-land & resides there...he is British.
Honestly...I have never heard anyone say that they wanted to see him lose...but maybe I just wasnt listening enough. The thing is...he has a right to be cocky. Look what he's done & how old he is.
I mean youv'e got greatness thrust upon you in your game, your'e being pimped by the biggest pimp in the game, & your'e being groomed to be the highest paid trick on the street...nothing wrong with having some princess like qualities.

that about covers it I reckon! Of all the sports, im my experience, your gonna find very little racism within boxing.
If anyone wants Amir to fail cos he's asian then they should probably go to the gym and get battered around by a 17 year old asian lad with quick hands (been there :-[) and they will soon learn some respect!
I can honestly say I know a good number of lads that like their boxing and Ive NEVER heard any of them cheer against a fighter cos he was asian.
I DID want Naz to lose....but thats because he was an arrogant wan*er :)

and anyway Naz isnt Asian he's Arab which is completely different.like russians and english for example we both might have white skin but completley different
i am dissilusioned by Amir's hype nothing to do with his race (my kids are mixed race)
but his race is what has got him more media attention but that ist his fault unlessof course we want himto do a jacko and bleach his skin.
i h8 the way he seems egotistical
saying that i enjoyed his last fight (onli one i have enjoyed so far though)
and i do believe the hype will outlive his chin ;D but thats just my opinion
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
Katfight I think you should have said his hype will outlive his skin colour.

Hang on a minute. He won a silver medal representing Britain as part of the Great Britain Olympics team.

I don't think I understand what you mean. :-\
Are you saying he's not really proud to represent Britain - he's FAKING it?
How about Lennox Lewis or Ricky Hatton? They both fought/fight with the Union Jack on their shorts?
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
If Amir had a choice I believe he may not want to have that pompous British flag waving nationalistic rubbish that surrounded some of his fights.
He probably would prefer to fight in white shorts wearing the Bolton badge on his trunks.
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
Fenster good Point about Lewis & Hatton. Every man has his story mind you.
1. Lennox Lewis.
As you know, for quite a while, he had a hard time establishing himself as a 'true brit'.
2. Ricky Hatton.
As far as i can remember. He bore the Union Jack in the U.S, not here. Thats says something.
3. Amir Khan. The entrance music, the shorts, the messages before and after fights..... Its all so obvious that he's being guided on these subjects. Its for popularity rather than principle.

Blimey, thought I was cynical fucker.
I don't think you guys are giving Khan enough credit. Yes he comes across a bit thick but he's been representing England/Britain as an amateur boxer since he was a kid. Just maybe Khan appreciates that "pompous British flag" and appreciates without having that flag draped around his neck he wouldn't be where he is now.
You guys are calling him a FAKE and a LIAR. Isn't that unfair?
Personally i'm ONLY interested in Amir Khan the BOXER. I couldn't care less about - whom he chooses to represent, what his religion is, what he wears on his shorts etc.. likewise with Hatton, Naz, Lewis, Calzaghe.....
And i'm sure Hatton supports Man City 99.9% more than he does Britania. ;)

Flipping heck Fenster...has hell frozen over and I actually agree with what you're saying. CC bro, that's my view on things too, and people shouldn't be reading so much into what the hoo-ha around him is and let him do his talking in the ring.
