I am not making any predictions...we never know what can happen in 5 yrs...this is boxing and we all know is boxing the last thing you can do is assume the future.....This may be the most unpredictable sport in the world IMO.....

My vote goes to Vernon "Ice Man" Paris. He's only 19 years old but he's already 17-0 with 12 KOs.

He's young but I think his potential is incredible. He is a HARD puncher, great handspeed, puts his combos together, he can right on the inside very well and most of all his defense seems to be very good (he's a Detroit fighter, he likes the shoulder rolls). I think he's going to go on to HUGE things and, if he keeps his nose clean and matures well, he'll be a top P4P guy in 5 years or less.

I agree he hasn't fought the greatest opposition (but he deserves a lot of credit for destroying a crafty vet like Pat Byrd), but he's still a kid, they're trying to bring him along at a good pace, and he's demonstrated tremendous skill for his age and an undeniable potential.

Juan Diaz.

There is no way in gods green earth that David Haye will ever be P4P number 1..or even in the top 10 for that matter! I don't think Pavlik will be P4P number 1 either I just don't see it. Cotto very well could be if he carries on the way he is going..I'm not sold on Diaz either. I think there are quite a few candidates who, if they stepped up their game, could make it. I think it's going to be a test of who improves the most in 5 years. There's a lot of competition!

2 or 3 years from now, it could be Manny Pacquiao, Pavlik, Juan Diaz. ;)

This is probably the answer. It's probably someone we've heard of, but not someone who's already well-known and in big fights. Every once in a while you get an older fighter who's #1 PFP, like Hopkins was for a little bit. But usually, a guy is going to ascend to #1 around the age of 27-28, meaning the next PFP is probably in his early 20s now.

I don't see Cotto being on an elite level in 5 years. He's already 27, he's already been in some tough fights, he has a high-action style which means he's going to be in a lot more tough, hard fights. He could be the #1 PFP at some point in the next couple years, but I don't see him still on that level at age 32.

pavlik or calzaghe

Jorge Linares. With his style,he's always going to be difficult to beat. No way Juan Diaz imo,he is going to slow down at some point and when he does,he's going to get beaten. There's only so long you can maintain that style.Ditto Cotto,Pavlik.

Imo ..

Linares , Berto or Maybe even someone like calderon or Mares :)
