Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
When I first saw De Leon he banged some Thai guy straight out. He struck me as a man who was all punch and no defence. Lot like Mayorga but more reckless (if that's possible), but he was soooooo bad on the Floyd undercard.
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
Yeah he did look terrible on Saturday...sometimes that technique really amazed me. Didn't look like it was coming from a world champion! Just goes to show there really is so much more than technique that goes into boxing
Not a fan though.

On his day he can be as (strangely) exciting as Mayorga is (street-fighter like), but he'll trip himself up by not putting his gloves in the way of someones punch and instead swinging like he's brawling some meathead outside a night club. Entertaining nevertheless.

De Leon's own punch is respectable, but he doesn't throw punches correctly and as a result doesn't benefit from his natural power as much as he potentially could.
Usually an exciting fighter, but can see limitations against a reasonably slick boxer with good movement.
I don't know about that bro,30 kos in 34 fights including plenty of 1 punch kos tells me he knows how to throw a KO punch.
Ponce is an exciting fighter and always dangerous....if you're standing right in front of him. If you're not,he looks HORRIBLE,throws the wildest roundhouse punches you'll ever see and actually turns from a power puncher into a volume puncher because he knows he can't land cleanly so he tries to overwhelm opponents he can't catch.
I consider myself a fan,I've seen about 1o of his fights and all have been exciting but keep him away from Molitor and Caballaro. Molitor's movement and Caballaro's height are too much for him,he admitted that after the Caballero fight and I think that is the ONLY guy Ponce does not want to fight.
Tough, strong, powerfuldetermined, big heart combined with awkward, wild, poor technique, awesome stamina and a good chin,oh and uber slow makes a great combination to watch!! ;D ;D
Well while I do agree Gamo, I just feel his physique would allow him to be even better should he decide to use his mind and mobility more.
Indeed adopting strategy in the ring would elongate his career and with the punch power he does have he could be a really good fighter.
His jab is both underestimated and underused and Id like him to concentrate more on ACCURATE combonation punching.

You could say the same about Foreman, he had amazing power even though he was throwing arm punches.
Ponce de Leon has horrible technique, but he's got sheer will behind his punches, he may not be textbook
but he's defininately got some sauce on those punches. I definately agree with the other statement,
the slick boxer thing, that whole fight if he would have been firing right uppercuts he would have caught
Escabedo ducking and nighty night, but he couldn't figure that out.

Great Spot on Foreman, thats a belief I hold myself!
However it does seem to be working for him and i suppose with age comes maturity as it did for Barrera and Julio Caesar Chavez before him.
