When did Paulie have him hurt? Also Demarcus Corley is the closest of anyone to actually hurting Mayweather. And that list includes Zab Judah who does hit hard, and while Cotto was surely stung he was still able to fight with a clear head and he dodged Judah's follow and was even countered back. As for Torres only fighting Columbians well he just TKO'ed Kendall Holt and he hits really hard which is the only problem he posed for Cotto. Cotto has been able to outtime the boxers and out land them on the outside, he has been able to outpunch the punchers despite not having the greatest chin, but guess what its getting better, there is no point where Mosley really stunned him, and besides Judah I would say Mosley is the biggest puncher he has faced and Oscar has been hurt worse by Mosley and Vargas who can take a decent shot also felt the power of Mosley's left hook, but Cotto really took it all night.
All that being said first and foremost I am a Mayweather fan, and he is ring generalship, defence, amazing speed and even better timing(almost a sixth sense), and his underrated power would beat Cotto or Williams or Margarito.

Despite the post being a wind up (Experiment time) defo gave it away there are some good posts on here.
Cotto was weight drained at 140. At 147 he seems stronger and a lot more capable of talking shots. I would argue that Shane was the hardest puncher he has faced and he was not even wobbled although some say he was after some shot in the later rounds.
As for the Judah fight I thought Judah started strong but had the wind taken out of him by some dodgy low shots.
All in all Cotto is work in progress for me and will get better but I do not think he is over rated.
Also I do not believe somebody beating somebody else quicker or better than another fighter making them better. Styles make fights and there are all sorts of reasons why people beat other people quicker.

I used to think that Cotto was over-rated, but now acknowledge that he's the real deal. It seems like he's making vast improvements every time he fights.
He does get hit a lot, but he doesn't seem to care anymore. Cotto was only okay at 140 because he seemed real chinny. I think the punches had a much bigger effect because he was weight drained. At 147 he's taken some massive shots from Judah and Mosley, but stood up to them pretty well. At 140, those same shots would have layed him out.
He can be outboxed, however. Which is why I think that Mayweather would earn a hard fought UD, because Mayweather isn't dumb enough to stand there and trade shots like Mosley and Cotto did. Perhaps Paul Williams could outbox him, as well.

Miguel Cotto is a very good fighter and will destroy Alfonso Gomez.
I believe that Paul Williams is the best Welterweight in the World and hopefully in 2008 he'll get the chance to prove it instead of the others ignoring him or ducking him.

I’ve followed that fool religiously…& let me say this one thing & you can all take it or leave it. The thing that was hurting Cotto the most during his “trial by fire” with Torres & Corley so to speak was his heart & his head.
Cotto didn’t have as much a problem with functioning at the weight as he did listening to HBO & the fans telling him that he was the next Trinidad. He side stepped his boxing abilities & started standing & trading foolishly in the pocket.
Watch those fights & watch Cotto when the crowd get’s wiley…he get’s stupid & he get’s clocked.
Cotto has made enough progress & enough adjustments to warrant a shot at Floyd…but I agree with Mick…anyone that believes Cotto is the foil to Floyd…they’re indeed delusional…or Danny G.

Seriously though…if Cotto were to pick a smart time to go after Floyd…an advantageous time…he’d wait for Floyd’s self proposed layoff. Don’t go for Floyd now…while his confidence is sky rocket high after utterly & totally destroying Hatton…wait for the layoff…let him get soft & then go at him full throttle like you did against Mosley for the first half of the fight.

I agree 100%. That constant comparison with Tito could make him change his style and start taking more risks, and more shots from his opponents. At the beginning Cotto used a lot more counter punching to the body, boxing more, wearing his opponents, winning by KO, but not with the same impressive KO's that Tito used to. And, he has to be careful with this.

Could & did...by my opinion & several commentators...I think that someone in Cotto's camp even commented on it after the Corley fight in Puerto. Cotto's proven to be a hell of a lot smarter lately...it rolls back to the bouts that he showcased what he was...similar to the days of battering the hell out of Jukko, Maussa, Pinto, Sosa, & Bailey most memorably.
Cotto can box...he's shown that against Judah & Mosley of late...he'll do well if he sticks to that pattern of sticking & moving.
Standing & trading is not Cotto's strong suit...never has been...never will be. While he does pack the amount of power that he stopped all comers with at 140lbs...he seems more sturdy at 147.

Ono sorry to ask you but are you a real boxing fan. What many of us see is the skills this guy has, and what he is developing into. He has given me my moneys worth when I see him fight unlike other big stars.
