Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
Wow. People are harsh.
I know Steve Forbes isn't stellar but he's a pretty good fighter and is De La Hoya not allowed one single fight where he doesn't have to train hard. I could see if Mayweather was making this match but Oscar has the best resume of anyy fighter in boxing today as far as difficulty goes. He should be allowed to fight a Steve Forbes here or there, especially just to keep busy. Everybody else does.
I'm no Oscar apologist but come on, this isn't that bad. I wouldn't even call it bad.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
Delahoya vs. Forbes is pretty bad, but it could be a lot worse.
Imagine..................
Oscar Delahoya vs. Alfonso Gomez :o
Doesn't get much worse than that.

You folks expected him to fight Margarito in a tune-up?
I wish he had Cotto or Margarito for a tune-up actually ;) . Two slow, straight forward, robotic fighters would be the right candidates to exchange punches with Oscar and feel his speed and power.

I don't see what all the crap is about. People give him S*** for making a fight with the #1 P4P when he did not deserve it. People give him S*** because he wanted to fight Cotto or Hatton for a title when you felt he should wait in line like the rest after his loss and not keep the WW division on hold. Now you give him S*** for taking a gimmy in a free event.
I frankly could'nt care less who he fights. If he wants a tune up, let him have his damn tune up.
Like I have said before, he can't even blink without people complaining about it.

Exactly.

Chino I hope you are kidding about wishing to fight Cotto or Margarito. If you aren't you are a very stupid person or at least very ignorant as far as boxing.

Relax there a little bit bud, it's not like you are their relatives to get sentimental about it.
You would have to be kidding if you think Cotto or Margarito have a chance to win a round against Mayweather or Oscar. Cotto and Margarito, two guys who have shown a robotic, straight forward, slow, predictable styles who's resume are NOTHING comparable to Oscar. Still both of them have been rocked a couple of times by class B boxers.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
Well I guess we disagree. I think that Cotto and Margarito WOULD win some rounds against both fighters. I don't mean to be deprecatory but you seem like the very essence of ignorance.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
so its a tune up fight with forbes? why does DLH even need a tune up fight? i hope it turns out be DLH - STURM all over again

*sigh* like I said, relax a little bit and instead of getting all dramatic and sentimental about it using insults try to tell me why you think I am wrong. It's called a debate, don't forget.
Here's why I think they don't stand a chance against Mayweather and Cotto. I have said it before and I am not the only one. Cotto and Margarito ARE SLOW. It would be interesting if you think they are faster than Mayweather and De la Hoya. Both Oscar and Mayweather have shown no problem against slow fighters, think about Baldomir, Mayorga, or Gatti. Their style is taylored made for Mayweather and De La Hoya. They would be getting punches from all angles.
You do think Margarito and Cotto can be the ones to dominate and destroy Mayweather? Well, why do you think so? ::**
For the people that complain because Oscar is making money. Shouldn't all fighters just start doing it for free? :)
Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
Right now, yes Cotto and Margarito would beat DLH.
DLH ain't the huge puncher people make him out to be. And I don't think he could outwork and outpoint neither of these two.

Forbes isn't a bad fighter by any means, and nobody who saw it can count the loss/robbery against Demetrius Hopkins against him because Forbes clearly won the fight.
However, Forbes is way too small for Oscar and I think that this is a fight designed by GBP to make Oscar look real good again.
As for the Strum vs. Delahoya debacle, I wouldn't mind seeing Forbes beat Delahoya the same way that Strum did, but this time I would like to see the guy that actually won the fight get the decision.
I'll be happy to see the Delahoya vs. Mayweather rematch, but there's a few guys out there that I would much rather see Mayweather fight (and no, Steve Forbes isn't one of them)

Yep, Forbes not being one of them as well as Cotto and Margarito. Easy wins for Mayweather.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
Right my take on this fight is that it shouldnt happen. De La hoya can easily beat the majority of the fighters out there and at 154 apart from Floyd ( I dont count him a 154 fighter now though ) I think he can take anybody. Why doesnt he go for Winky Wright or Vernon Forrest or Shane Mosley? This fight does not make sense in my eyes, its good for Forbes in that he gets some good money, but say if he COULD win, where on earth would it take him? Anybody from 140-154 would beat him IMO.
But De La Hoya has some justifying to do for this fight, I dont think I could forgive him unless he pulled off a Floyd Mayweather win.

Personally, I'd rather see Mayweather put on a boxing clinic against Cotto en-route to a 11th round TKO rather than a rematch with Delahoya, but you can't blame PBF for taking what will likely be the 2nd highest grossing fight in history. Plus, I'm guessing that Mayweather is getting a much larger cut of the $$$ this time.
I would honestly rather see him fight Margarito than Delahoya, as well. We all know that Margarito has yet to beat a top fighter (and he's lost to a few sub-par fighters) and he's not very skilled (good)
Yes, he looked great against Golden Johnson. Big Deal, so would Alfonso Gomez. But, if Margarito comes out and destroys Zab, then goes on to beat Williams, Cotto, or Cintron, then that has the potential to be a very big fight. The problem with that, of course, is that Margarito has to get past Zab first.
He won't.

Both Mayweather and DLH will come out as winners, just like the first fight. Man! I wish they exchanged more punches like they did on round 12. Of course, Mayweather being smart, wouldn't try it. It's more of a risk for Mayweather to exchange punches with Oscar than the other way around. I may be the only one who enjoyed that fight. I was tense just watching who would get closer, who would exchange, etc. Both are GREAT boxers.

Looking forward to that fight. As for Cotto, I wouldn't want him to get a boxing clinic from Mayweather. I rather see Cotto face Williams or Cotto vs Margarito.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya - Steve Forbes is on !
I agree that this is kind of a dumb fight and that Forbes is way too small for Oscar, but those arguing that Oscar is just out for easy money here and that he can't expect people to buy this fight, etc., need to get their facts straight. I'm no big Oscar fan, but everything I've seen out of GBP has said that Oscar's next fight will be a "tune-up" and won't be PPV.
I also agree with those who have pegged the most intriguing aspect of this as whether it portends PBF/DLH II will take place at Welter.
