Hopkins for me.
Calzaghe by SD, bordering on a draw.
You have a deal then Pacstraight. Sig bet it is.
Toss up in my book, everything points toward calzaghe, but hopkins is just so smart and sneaky. He knows and has seen way too much in the ring to be counted out so easy. Just like most fights i really don't care who wins so i usually go against the grain in my picks when it's this close, so i choose hopkins. It wouldn't surprise me to see hopkins get himself DQ'ed before he lets joe beat him.
Calzaghe by UD is my pick.
theres no doubt both these long reigning champions have prepaired for this long awaited contest, its been around 7-8 years in the making way back when hopkins was middle and calzaghe was supermiddle kings ( joe still is ). both men have always turned up in great shape although calzaghe being younger and having the more energetis style will have more in the tank. it maybe that at 43 the super hard training to get bernard in shape may catch up with him on the night ( i hope not ) i'd love hopkins to win because im a fan of his and i've never warmed to calzaghe, i just don't like him..... he should have been the greastest british boxer of the last 25 years hands down, but choose to stay in his comfortzone....even now when he finally goes to fight a big name its a 43 year old past superstar, if he wins he wants to fight a 40 year old past his use by date tarver or roy jones again a 40 year old ex force........ these fights should have happened years ago when he would have got more credit, now its a case of a long running stay away homeboy fighting guys who should be retired, just to add names to his record and ££££££££ to his bank balence
i'd love hopkins to pull it out the bag one last time but i just get the feeling he'll come up short, joe's got alot in his arsenal
I'm going for Joe. I've been a fan throughout his career, when this fight was anounced I thought it would be an easy nights work for him, but I always manage to convince myself his opponents are more of a threat than they really are by fight night.
Hopkins is crafty and has a good defence, so I don't think he'll get beat up. Calzaghe he could easily win the rounds from the outside if he wanted to IMO, and I hope that's what he does early to get some rounds in the bank, then let Hopkins come forward out of desoeration. This fight is as hard as Joem Makes it for himself IMO, if he gets involved in a brawl early he could find himself playing catch up for the rest of the fight and playing into B-hops plans, but I think JC has enough experience by now not to panic when things aren't going his way, and I expect him to wina comfortable, but ugly decision.
I see one outcome. KO by Calzaghe.
Hopkins may have been worked this hard before, maybe not.
But at 43 yerars of age he will not be given any opportunity by Calzaghe to conserve energy.
kessler and hopkins styles are different, Hopkins is crafty fights dirty, better defensive, better counter puncher, better inside and has better movement around the ring, he is also way more experienced at fighting southpaws. hopkins will not get stopped and vice versa.
another thing if hopkins thought he would lose he wouldn't of taken the fight, he ain't stupid. he's all business.
No way, I would put money on the over for this fight without hesitation. This is almost a sure decision, no way Calzaghe KO's Hopkins, I would bet anything on that. Not only does Hopkins not get knocked down, Calzaghe doesn't knock people out.
I have flip flopped on this and very much agree with ICB. I think if Calzaghe tries to fight on the inside then he isn't going to be able to push Hopkins to the ropes. I think Hopkins is a master on the inside of negating his opponents offense and I don't think Calzaghe will be able to outwork and outpunch Hopkins on the inside like I previously thought.
However, if Calzaghe uses his jab and doesn't get suckered into a fight inside like he has so many times before then I think he has a chance of edging Hopkins. Yet I just don't think that is going to happen anymore. It might happen for a couple rounds if that is their gameplan, but I don't think Calzaghe can box for 12 rounds nonstop or even 7 rounds. It'll be an ugly fight no doubt.
I'm picking Hopkins by close decision. Let me now puke.
Calzaghe wins a splt Dec,its na meesy fight but Joes work rate wins him it.
Poll Update:
It's currently 19 to 10 in favor of Calzaghe...
Back in December it's 15 to 6 Calzaghe...
Maybe at fight time it will become 50-50... That's how close this fight might be...
.
I've gone with Hopkins Calzaghe looked a bit crap at times against Kessler and i think Hopkins is technically better than Kessler and fitter and stronger.
