Re: How long does Cotto have?
He's still have full tank of gas. And I don't think he will be refueling pretty soon.

There's a difference in difficult fights and a war.
I would have to ask how you determined which fight was a war.

I would not consider this a war. He went the distance with a tough opponent.
Come on this fight a war?
I'm sorry but I think you and I have very different opinons on what a war is.
I have no problem with calling this fight a war. Especially in the early rounds. The later rounds were all Cotto IMO and it was one sided.

That being said he does have good defensive skills IMO, but because he is offensively oriented he is bound to get hit more than guys like RJJ and Mayweather.
Do you guys see him becoming more of a boxer, or does he have 3 or 4 more years left? Or 5-6? Or will he be like Hopkins and fight into his 40's even though Cotto gets hit a lot more than Hopkins used to.
I can def. see him around for 5-6 years still. All in all I think he's been in 1 war with Torres and 2 difficult fights where he got rocked vs. Corely & Zab. I really don't see him stopping soon or those things having a major impact.
Totally agree with Mick here except his war with Torres he hasn't really ever been in an aging fight, His fight against Ndou he fought on the back foot and was never in any danger, Ndou won some rounds and it wasn't an easy fight, but i still think Cotto was comfortable for majority of the fight and boxed smartly.
I thought Cotto beat up Corley pretty bad except for the 3rd round i think it was, where Corley stunned Cotto with a temple shot and Cotto was in trouble for about 1 minute, i thought it was a pretty easy fight for Cotto.
How was his fight with Abdulauv tough Taeth ?? i only gave Abdulauv 1 round, Cotto countered Abdulauv all night and shut his eye completely forcing him to quit, i wouldn't even call that a tough fight let alone a war.
Cotto vs Judah wasn't a war Judah had a few moments in the early stages where he rocked Cotto, but other than that it was a one sided beat down.
Mosley vs Cotto was a fight that didn't catch fire for me. It was mostly a boxing match with some heat exchanges here and there, Cotto was hurt bad only once in the fight but other than that i never thought he was really hurt.
I think Cotto can carry on for quite along time with his new and improved boxing skill, like i said in the other thread he is patient and works behind his jab a lot more now, and takes less risks which will allow his boxing career to go on for at least a good 5 years no question IMO. Cotto has been rocked but so does every boxer even the grear Sugar Ray Robinson was rocked and dropped early in his career.
Re: How long does Cotto have?
In his early exploits Cotto was a rugged gunslinger with his heart on his sleeve and his chin on the line.
However, he has evolved. Although retaining his ferocious power and body punching, Cotto has adapted his style, in a manner that protects his chin, decreases wear and tear on his body and allows him to win fights without expending himself as much as he used to.
Much like Marco Antonio Barrera before him, Cotto will ensure his longevity by relying more on boxing skill in the later stages of his career, allowing him a longer reign as one of boxing's most entertaing fighters.
Re: How long does Cotto have?
He will last till the 26th july where he will get brutally KO'd by Antonio Margerito he will do the job Torres and Judah failed to do and he will do it inside 5 rounds.
Re: How long does Cotto have?
Any fighter is one fight away from the end of their career. Don't care who it is. Should Cotto have lots left in him? Certainly. Will he? Don't know. Ask me after Margarito. And this coming from a big Cotto fan.

Hey my friend do you know what was the fails of Torres and Judah ?
That they really couldnt assimilate the Cottos Power , thats all and Cotto did it , so dont think that Margaro is more hard hitter than them , probably we can put him between them , but you have to think that Margaro isnt dummy he know the price that he would get for find what he want , Did you think on that ?..............;D , Dont Dreams..........;D

Cotto does not protect his chin. Every time Zab wanted it, he got it, with KO-worthy uppercuts. Cotto, fortunately or unfortunately, has an iron chin and just kept coming. Within 5 fights if Cotto keeps getting hit like that you will notice a distinct difference in his ring presence.
Re: How long does Cotto have?
Cotto himself said in a recent interview that he has about 3 years left. This is coming from a guy who appears to have a scientific approach to his boxing career. Hopefully he will get some incredible match-ups during this stretch and continue to prove himself as the best WW in the world.
Re: How long does Cotto have?
Cotto will get knocked out vs Antonio Margerito because unlike Torres and Judah Antonio will just take Cotto's punches but Cotto will not beable to take Antonio's for long get ready for the words.AND NEW WBA WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION

Judah is a fantastic boxer, I would hardly write off Cotto's defence as a result of a very sharp fast world class southpaw catching him.
I feel this is particularily true in light of Cotto's performances since Judah, he's been evasive and held his hands well in both Mosely and Gomez fights.
I actually disagree with your statement that Cotto has an Iron chin also. His chin at Welter is an unknown quantity.

Is probably liquid , or maybe he could get his chin more stronger , i remember that fight with Judah , in the first round Judah gave him a really damn uppercut where i thought that Cotto could been KO by Judah in that moment , but he assimilated those great shots from judah , when you see poeple like that , that shown that you have to kill him until the end..................;D

Cotto telegraphed his chin and Judah utilized it frequently. That was all the evidence I needed to see to know the quality of his chin and that was a huge lapse in defense. Tell me you weren't amazed that Cotto took those punches and kept coming. It wasn't one or two, there were several. I'm not writing off Cotto's defense, rather, Cotto's willingness to set defense aside to go after an opponent. He's a better boxer than he showed against Judah, but that was what was necessary to win. Anyone who gets in Judah's face and can take a punch will make him wilt and Cotto did that in spades.

I think that the reason Cotto neglected his defence and was caught was due to his being over zealous. He sprang from the corner looking for action early and got caught as a result.
That Happened early in the fight.
One can note that as the fight wore on Cotto's defense was not frequently penetrated again.
As regards the punches he took.
He was shaken but kept his footing...
Was it that Cotto has a great chin and he stayed up
or
was it that Cotto was shaken by punches that shouldn't have shaken an elite fighter? (Those punches never bothered Floyd or Baldomir)
