We need a couple up in NC...I'm not saying we need category 4's and 5's but a 1 and 2 and a depression every now and then would help out greatly.
Ya know there is research done and being followed up on for the manipulation of these beasts. As far as directional and so on.
So far it appears we can't really fight the elements of mother nature as in to stop, or lessen or strengthen much, all basically dictated by the many natural factors that go into building them...but I do think it may at some point be possible to slightly steer them. I know there was some fictional stuff on tv regarding it, thru seeding and so on...but have heard a lot of that was based on actual research and development.
Seeding a long time ago was done and thought and or found to be pointless, but is now being further explored as I understand it.

National Hurricane Center.
Hurricane season started yesterday and runs through until November. The seasons first named storm has already happened and is expected to dissipate over Mexico, tropical depression Arthur, as once again forecasters are calling for an active season.
I'm not sure if I am the only one who has this fascination, but as these monsters begin building off the coast of Africa, gliding along the lesser Antilles, feeding off the seasonably warm water and true natural violence and wonder begin, I cheer for the hurricane. I check in as potential depressions and cyclones build, check forecasting predictions, potential for growth, and I absolutely cheer. Go Hurricane! Grow! Grow! Go Hurricane!
It isn't that I want to see destruction, or death or mayhem that lays in their paths, that follows in their wakes, but I am just sooo fascinated by the power of nature, and seeing it at its full force, that I can't seem to not cheer for them.
So hello hurricane season. Go! Go! Go! :happy0931sb4:
Awsome, there hasn't been any natural disasters for a while, been needing sumin to happen so i can get some new jokes sent through.
Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
One day after the a levy broke on the mighty Mississippi River, a woman and her son was sitting on the roof of thier farm house, watching the water flow by, when the lillte boy turned to his mother and said:
Moma, there is something strange going on with the flow of the water.
What do you mean son? Asked the mother.
He replied: I have been watching that there straw hat for about hour now and it will move about a 100 yards with the flow of the water, then it will stop and start moving against the flow, for about 100 yards. Why does it do that Moma? the boy asks.
The mother hugs her son and says: Don't worry about that son, That is just your Daddy.
She said, Come Hell or High water, he promised to mow the front yard.

Well... better a little too much rain than drought, that's for sure. But hurricanes are a b*tch... not only during, but after. Here in P.R. we've hit by two major ones in the past two decades (not mentioning several tropical storms and whatnot) -- Hugo (1989) and Georges (1998). It's the being without power, water, and some other basic necessities for days and in some cases weeks. That's even worse than the storm itself.

Yup Titofan...no doubt. Your country and Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti Dominican are pretty much trolling bait for hurricanes.
Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
Yup move down to Puerto Rico if you want to experience the Hurricane season at full blast.
Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
Latitudes and longitudes. No two numbers are more watched when one of those monsters forms off the coast of Africa and starts moving westerly. It's like a gigantic bowling alley, and we're one of the pins.
:(

I have, but only a very small one and was disappointed in it's lackluster performance as I stood on the shores of our cottage screaming at it around age 9 or 10..."Come on, bring it! That all you got!!" lol The updraft had pulled my new tent from it's pegs on the shore and dropped it into the middle of the lake...while it tore thru trees a mile or so away across the lake. My dad had to carry me inside to huddle with the rest of them, kicking and screaming. I don't have a death wish..but man do I, and have I ever loved violent weather.
Tropical Storm Bertha, is now officially Hurricane Bertha! National Hurricane Center
here is a satellite feed of it in near real time: Central Atlantic Visible Imagery - Satellite Services Division
It looks to pose no threat to the eastern seaboard and as my earliest predictions went...they seem to be spot on. If anyone lives in Bermuda, then I would suggest you start preparing as it looks on course.
Chances are it won't make it much stronger then a Cat. 2 at best as it heads for cooler waters in it's present steering conditions. It may pose a threat to the extreme northeast and canadian maritimes also...unless things change into the 72+ predictions. But also, I do tend to think it will head north then east and die off as a fairly uneventful first hurricane in thecold North Atlantic.
Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
goid bless the dull drawn out weather we get in the uk
its the middle of summer in london and pissing down with rain as we speak.
But at least i aint gotta worry about coming home to a roofless house.
You guys have it much tougher than us!!

You are not 14-16 years old like you claim, unless you're in MENSA.

lol It's okay dude, I'm used to it. I am 14, and turned it in May. Now I rarely respond to these types of inquiries or feel the need to explain...BUT, to make it interesting...for a proper wager I can prove it. I have posted pics before and do have a webcam to verify. I can even give ya the finger in real time. ;)
By the way, Bertha has sadly deteriorated due to wind shear and several other factors into a weak Cat. 1. I expect it to eventually be drawn into a front and disappear. But fear not...there shall be more hurricanes, and I will be here to provide the info. as to their birth, growth...and subsequent movements. :)
