I notice everyone picking Roy is expecting the KO. Says it all really.
If they don't coast - Jones will quit when he gets tired. ;)
When does Roy ever get tired? Calzaghe is the one who hits people once or twice then ties up for the rest of the round. Roy has always been super fit and whatever happens I can't see him tiring.
Everyone gets tired. And you tire a lot faster at 39 than 29. Why do you think Roy spends so much time on the ropes?
Hopkins resorted to acting and cheating when he couldn't handle the pace.
Calzaghe sets a pace that PRIME 20+year-olds can't handle.
The more tired Roy gets the more chance of Calzaghe's punches overwhelming him. So I see Roy quitting on his stool rather than getted KO'd. ;)

err lol what ? Calzaghe throws 100 punches a round, he doesnt tie people up! was that sarcastic?
Alright then watch the last round against Kessler one punch tie up one punch tie up. get your facts straight before you comment!
I came across a bit rude there, apologies.
But looking up stats, he averaged 84 punches a round in Calzaghe vs Kess, which is alot for a SMW, especially a relatively ol done

Roy quitting on his stoll will never happen...... FACT!;D
Not to mention Joe is older than Roy (now) was by the time he slowed down for Tarver and Johnson... Joe is getting older and both know that this is time sensitive thats why this fight is in 2 months rather thatn the customary 4-6months.. Joe is getting older too... FACT!!;D

Yeah they're both old boys.
But Calzaghe has been mixing in the highest class of late whereas Jones has been in exhibition matches.
Joe will have to have drastically "gone" overnight for Roy to have any chance other than a "lucky" KO.. otherwise he will simply overwhelm Roy with his superior output.
I'd rather see Roy QUIT on his stool than Calzaghe punch him silly. ;)
Re: If Roy doesn't use more footwork, he might as well not show up
Love Roy but he is a shadow of his former self...The only way Roy Jones wins if he catches Joe C. early or Joe fights at Roy's pace which I can't see happening...What I do see is Calzaghe pressing and exhausting Roy with Joe C winning by late round stoppage...the pace will be too much for Roy, sorry....
Re: If Roy doesn't use more footwork, he might as well not show up
One thing I'd like to point out.
Joe is a reactive counter puncher.
He lets the oppoent lead and then he reacts and overwhelms them, but seldom can he be called the aggressor.
Thats why the fight with Hopkins looked so awkward. Hopkins wouldn't lead, forcing Joe to come forward and creating an ugly fight.
Re: If Roy doesn't use more footwork, he might as well not show up
I disagree. roy is the faster and stronger guy imo at this weight and should be backing Joe up. Roy fought a smart fight vs trinidad by keeping a tight desence and allowing Tito to touch his forearms and gloves, getting him in range to throw his own punches while pressing foward. Calzaghe tends to lean in and roy will have even more sucess with his right hand cause he tends to folllow up on his punches when he lands them, Hopkins throws one right hand and holds. Joe has never fought anyone like Jones even at his age, experience counts for something.

I'm not worried at all about this fight. Now where did I bookmark that link for the gong photograph?

What?
So because Jones hasn't quit in the past it's not possible he'll quit in the future :lolhaha:
Think before you speak boy. ;)

Yeah, and Jones has a habit of being knocked out in almost as many fights as he wins these days.;)

Not against slappers like Calzaghe he doesn't!

Totally agree. Joe should have demanded the fight be at smw because he just looked awful at LH against a 43 year old man. Also Jones as we know has struggled for a long time to make weights below LH and struggled with that for a few fights after his stint at heavy weight but seems very comfortable back there now. ROY WILL WIN THIS FIGHT!!!!!!!

So what your trying to say is he didn't use good footwork against Woods and Ruiz???????
Some of his best ever footwork was in these fights and both were in the last 6 years.
Also I'm expecting a different fighting style to the one he used against Tito he knew he could just stand there with him and I felt that he could have landed much harder punches at any time if he needed to and have knocked him out. Instead he went in there got twelve rounds under his belt and went looking for Calzaghe. Believe me Ive been following roys career for over 15 years now and he's been planning this for a long time. ROY WILL WIN THIS FIGHT!!!!!!! If he doesnt I will change my name on here to "Roy Jones is a bum" i'm that confident.
He didn't use great footwork against Woods or Ruiz... Ruiz was so much slower than him that he stood right in front of Ruiz, and when Ruiz decided to come forward Roy was fast enough to get out of the way. Against Woods, Roy beat him easily, but he was backed up onto the ropes more than once against Woods, which would never happen if he was fighting like he did against Toney.
Also RJJ said he didn't have trouble making 170 against Trinidad, Also don't be giving Hopkins bad rep he is still one of the top 5 fighters in world IMO.
Re: If Roy doesn't use more footwork, he might as well not show up
Here are some things people on here aren't comprehending.
1. You can't compare this version of RJJ to this version of B-Hop. While one of them has foughten at the top level consistently(Taylor, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe) over the last 3 years the other has foughten only one legitimate opponent, a natural WW, who hadn't won a big fight since Mayorga in like 2004. Trinidad isn't a bad fighter, but he isn't an good indicator of what the top fighters are.
2. Roy has lost his power, he doesn't hit harder IMO than Hopkins does.
3. He will be in huge trouble if he gets caught on the ropes consistently. He has adapted his defense, but he can still be hit.

power is the last thing to go with a fighter... Jones has more accuaracey and more snap on his punches than Nard, Fact!!!! Not to mention his handspeed is still remarkable...
