Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
Some are acting as if This was entirely two different fights with Cotto putting on a damage free boxing clinic through six rounds and the roof just collapsed out of no where starting in the 7th ??Cottos boxing & footwork was top notch without a doubt but he was being effected & feeling the strength/power difference from the jump off point. He absorbed gradual, accumulating damage until the end,Especially with those inside uppercuts.
Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
Very pissed off with Max Kellerman and Jim Lampley just completely ignore Toni's work and then Lampley starts crying at the end he was literally sobbing as he was speaking at the exit credits.
The 2nd round told the story of how the fight would end...early in the round Toni threw a hook to the body that made cotto's body get thrown into the ropes, that was vicious and those shots drained cotto. Then in the latter part of the round Cotto caught Toni with an uppercut that snapped Toni's head back and Toni laughed at him just as he did with Cintron, at that point he knew he could take his shots.
And although I would give the 6th round to Cotto I think at that point in the fight it is when Cotto realized he was gonna need a miralcle. He came out from his corner and made the sign of the cross before the bell rang...clearly asking for divine intervention at that point.
Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
Yeah even though i thought Cotto won the first 6 rounds i never felt like he was spanking margarito. Margarito was hangin right with cotto the whole fight. He seem to be the fresher fighter also throughout the whole fight. While cotto was winning you could seem him clearly getting tired while Margarito seem to be just getting started.
To me the fight was clearly heading in the direction it did from about round 6 on down.

Max Kellerman: Cotto is clearly dominating this round and the fight :o
WTF.
The call last night was awful but the worst i ever heard was Chavez/Taylor 1. Lampley/Leonard & Merchant rode Taylor's nut hard! It was terrible.

It started to sink in after about 8rds that Cottos shot were having little effect and that Cotto was slowly getting broken down thats when they changed their tune and actually showed a Tony clip at the end of the round. From then Cotto knew he wasnt going to win but he kept trying great fighter.

Lamps is a rah-rah boy.He calls shots that do not land...just watch the replays and on a couple of occasions when Kellerman & Manny were starting to call Margarito success,He started boasting and literally talking over them loudly. He reminds me of those old Batman series and the Sound effects...."POWWZ"....."BLAMO" etc :action:.I don't see a grand HBO conspiracy but I can not stand Lampley's phony theatrical thesaurus spouting arse.

Lamps is the same way with Pavlik. I mean I like Pavlik, but during the Lockett fight, Lampley was so over the top in his love, I wanted to barf. I would not be surprised if he rubbed one out in the process.

;D
:jabbing: :spunk:"Oh Kelly; you beat Lockett and I'll beat my meat"
Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
The reason lampley was crying was because he had his nose so far up cotto's ass, they needed surgery to remove it, and man did the surgery hurt.
Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
Truth be told, while Cotto was a vicious knockout artist at junior welter, i agree with many of the posters that he is more of a volume puncher at welterweight, especially when faced with an immaculate chin to the likes of tony margarito. But at times he looked the way jermain taylor did against winky wright. in the rare event of a clinch, bayless would separate them and he would walk backwards right into the ropes. I believe he thought that standing in the center of the ring and trading with tony would be suicide, which isnt too far from the truth. But margarito hit paydirt with those uppercuts, and manny steward has said in many telecasts that cotto is susceptible to uppercuts. the way he holds his hands leaves him open up the center. if you saw the judah-cotto fight, zab realized that was his best shot at stoppin cotto. In round two he landed the first good one and you saw him keep tryin it the rest of the night. ricardo torres back and junior welter caught cotto with uppercuts. cotto, defensively has some mechanical issues. and judging from his emotional postfight interviews on espn, the loss did more damage psychologically.

Agreed, I'm still waiting for Mosely to start throwing uppercuts, that fight was his for the taking if he only threw the uppercut. Floyd has a great uppercut and thats what he would beat Cotto with.
Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
Just watched it again and it was funny hearing Lamps and Kellerman trying to out do each other with classic phrases:
Max: "That is a modern boxing classic'
Lamps: "Two great warriors that made a fight that will enter folklaw"
Max "It lived up to the hype it suparsed the hype a classic for the ages"
Lamps: "People will soon not forget what these two champions did tonite"

Re: This needs bringing up: HBO and its grosse bias!
Lampley does what he's paid to do.
Publicise HBO fighters.
RTE do the same with Duddy, Lee and Dunne.
ITV do the same with Kahn and formerly Calzaghe.
Sky do the same with Ricky.
