As for Holmes, did he say something before or after he was sapped by Tyson?
And why all the hostility? I thought this was a board for expressing boxing opinions. If you are into insults. enjoy yourself, but that's not my thing, mate.
And remember, this is about one-punch power; about knocking someone out cleanly like Hearns did with Duran, Cuevas and Shuler. Hell, Olover McCall has more one-punch power than the Acorn. Check out how mnay Heavyweight Champions he took out.
I don't deny Shaver's power; I just believe it was overrated.
First off i have not once been hostile to you i have just put my point across i didn't think any of my comments were hostile maybe its the way i express myself but trust me i wern't being hostile........
Muhammad Ali easily beat Charlie Powell i don't know where you got your information from but both Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes have both stated many times that Earnie Shavers was the hardest puncher they ever fought most fans who follow the sport know this and yes Larry Holmes did say that after Mike Tyson fight.......
Earnie Shavers stopped Ken Norton, Jimmy Young, Jimmy Ellis, Roy Williams, all very good fighters and better than anyone Oliver McCall has stopped except Lennox Lewis........
Earnie Shavers when he fought for the title two times fought two of the most skilled and arguably two of toughest Heavyweight champions in history did you see the punch he decked Larry Holmes with ? Larry Holmes hit the canvas with a thump the punch was that hard......
And i would love to know how you come to the conclusion that Oliver McCall hits harder than Earnie Shavers because quite frankly i find that an absurd comment no offense but im just telling you straight up and name me the Heavyweights Oliver McCall stopped except Lennox Lewis who are any better than the Heavyweights i mentioned ?
McCall knocked out: Oleg Maskaev, Lennox Lewis, Bruce Seldon, Henry Akinwande and Francesco Damiani and all world champions at one time or another.
Common opponents re Shavers
McCall Beat Holmes. Holmes beat Shavers twice.
McCall KOd Brian Yates. Yates KOd Shavers. Yates’ final record: 13 - 86 - 3
McCall was a wrold champion; Shavers was not.

Are you kidding me ? all of those Heavyweights were either mediocre at best or just plain garbage except for Lennox Lewis how the hell can you compare them to Jimmy Ellis, Jimmy Young, Ken Norton.......
You are using facts and stats but they are very misleading Oliver McCall got a lucky punch against Lennox Lewis and Lennox Lewis was still on his feet when the fight was stopped.......
Oliver McCall only managed 1 successful title defense against 45 year old Larry Holmes which was very controversial decision some people including myself thought Larry Holmes deserved to win......
Since you like using facts lets use some facts shall we ? Oliver McCall never come close to knocking down grandpa Larry Holmes despite hitting Larry Holmes with his trademark right hands over and over again......
Where as Earnie Shavers decked a prime Larry Holmes with only one punch and despite Larry Holmes outboxing Earnie Shavers for majority of the fight and Earnie Shavers never landing a telling blow up until the end of the 7th round where the knockdown occured it still only took one bomb on the chin to deck Larry Holmes which almost KO'ed Larry Holmes......
Where as in Oliver McCall's case despite hitting Larry Holems with his best punches he never come close to stopping Larry Holmes or knocking him down so if we are using "facts" then doesn't that mean Earnie Shavers "technically" hits harder than Oliver McCall ?
And your last comment is ridiculous Earnie Shavers lost to Brian Yates in 1995 only having 2 fights in 8 years and was 50 years old your so called "stats" have so many holes.
Re: Was the One-punch Power of Earnie Shavers Overrated?
Earnie was 50 yrs.old when he fought his last fight vs Yates (21 yrs.). A legend from around here in Youngstown (Warren) his first pro fight was in Youngstown. His power isn't at all underrated Ali can pledge to that or ask Ken Norton.

Look, if we are talking about sheer power, we are on the same page, but if we are talking about one-punch power, I agree Eranie had some real pop; I just think it was overrated.
:rolleyes::rolleyes:
