Re: When will it ever stop? Just give the man his due...
I just watched a few round i could find on youtube. For hurt hands, i had clottey winning the 12th round. He was landing hard clean punches.

Props to Margarito for having a will/chin of titanium alloy.
I just can't figure out how guys like him and Paul Williams can make weight:-\
Re: When will it ever stop? Just give the man his due...
Tony's gotten his fair share of the positive spotlight, almost all boxing fans respect what he is and does and right now i say yes he is the best in the division. But the bandwagon door swings both ways i still remember a little while back after he fought williams margarito town was pretty abandoned, like always there were a few exceptions a few loyal fans but for the most part that was it. So i hugely agree with this post but for the most part it's just a recent shift of fly by night fans whio now all of sudden are dusting off thier margarito fan caps for a couple of weeks of "i told you so". By some strange stroke of bad luck, if williiams for example were to beat tony again, watch how fast all this margarito love disappears. But yea huge props to tony and props to his fans, but boo on all of those who will root for any fighter in hopes he can beat floyd reguardless of who it is. And only reckonizing a fighter for his last fight. Stand by your man in good and bad times is all i'm sayin. (Rant not intended for anyone on here especially since i haven't been on much lately, more of what i've seen and heard in general )

but someone like mayweather would beat him easily it would be like baldomir all over again.
clotty and williams imo both take him because they generally have tight defences and good chins to.
you wont knock margarito out, but he isnt an elit fighter i dont think.
He can't box for shiet but his chin, his work rate, his stamina, his power and his size are enough for him. Tony is a small Middle Weight at best who can make 147. Just imagine if he was fast and could box ;D Man did Floyd retire just in time or what? Floyd knew what he was doing when he said he was retiring after Baldomir. Floyd might fool the people by saying who is Tony Margarito but the TRUTH is.. Floyd and his camp knew EXACTLY who the phuk Tony Margarito was and is. ;D
But hey! Shaq can't shoot a free throw to save his own life lol That's real, you work with what God gives you. ;)

I am seriously thinking about starting a 12 step for some of you guys......
Margarito has proven himself hands down...what is there to prove? let's review a second....
3 of Tony's 5 losses came early on in his career..so early they can not be discredited on his resume due to the fact we have a hell of a lot more guys out there current and past that have more losses then he does and they came later in their careers.....
His only stoppage was on cuts....A valid stoppage yes but when I hear people say Vitaly beat Lennox and Lennox was lucky due to the cut stoppage I have to question peoples opinions of valid stoppages and losses...The cards were pretty even at the time of the stoppage as well...
The loss to Paul Williams was more due to Margarito waiting too long to step it up then anything....Tony was taking care of business at the last part of the bout....I remember Bernard Hopkins making the same mistakes a few times especially in the Howard Eastman fight where he lost the first 5 rounds before stepping it up....It was a tactical mistake that he acknowaged the moment the fight was over and made no excuses...
He has knocked out 27 of his 37 opponents he has beaten...His last 20 opponents have had better then a 75% win ratio....11 of them better then 85%.....
He has walked through guys like Kermit Cintron (lets spare the Kermit and his mental status comments the Man was a highly touted prospect in the first outing and champion in the rematch....he also has KO's 27 of his 29 opponents he has beaten....
He practicall made Lujan a one eared man for the rest of his life..
Most recently he beat one of the sports top 5 pound for pound fighters and a man everyone was considering the best puncher in boxing Miguel Cotto...The same Cotto people were saying was boxings next greatest superstar....
And that is in no way a dig at Cotto but more a testamnet to Margarito.....
So lets spare the He is slow as a turtle comments...He is nothing more then a club fighter who has gotten lucky...No more he is not as good as people claim and all the other nonsense...
If any of that is true what does that say about the men he has beaten?...The same men many of you who are making these comments about Margarito praised before the bout with him took place.....
You don't have to like him...You don't have to praise his accomplishments...you don't even have to give him his due....
BUT....
Don't look for reasons to try and take away from what he has done...Don't look for reasons to make excuses on why he won't beat so and so especially when it comes to fighters who have yet to beat a top 10 ranked opponent.....
Let it ride as is...The man is the best 147 pound fighter in the world and he has proven that....
Paul Williams biggest accomplishment is a close win over Tony and I give him his credit but he has not accomplished even a 1/3rd of what Margarito has......
Here is a little VH1 I love the 90's flashback phrase for ya's...
Don't hate the player hate the game....and right now Antonio Margarito is the best 147lb player in the world.....
Hey Daxx... I haven't even read the responses to your post, but here's my thoughts:
As a Cotto fan, I was rooting my head off for the man, and was devastated when he lost to Margarito. But as a boxing fan, I knew there was a chance that could happen, 'cause I had seen enough of Margarito to know. I've always given Margarito his props.
And in boxing's strange and mystifying ways, this puts a feather in Cotto's own cap, too. Cotto didn't lose to no chump. Like you said, 3 of Margarito's 5 losses came VERY early in his career. A boy fighting men with much more experience. A lamb thrown to the wolves. The other two? I was personally there when Margarito lost to Santos. Tony had the momentum and was coming on strong. Had the fight not been stopped, who knows what the outcome would've been. As for Williams, agreed 100%. Tony started out in 1st gear, and didn't really get it going till later in the fight, when Williams had built up a good lead.
So yeah... I agree whole-heartedly with your assessment and defense of Margarito. While at the same time saying that I've never been prouder of a losing fighter's effort as I was of Cotto that night.

so thats williams fauly for outclassing margarito in the first rounds
thats what boxing is about not letting your opponent get an advantage
marego didnt get going cuz williams wouldnt let him

If what you say is true, it would mean Williams would probably beat Margarito again in a rematch. But the sad truth is.... Williams needs to stay as far away from Margarito as possible.

Williams got his credit for beating Margarito...Or should I say for the win...There is no denying that but I won't go as far as say Outclass him....
If that was the case Williams was outclassed big time by Quintana...and sorry but a first round KO only proves you caught the man early not that your a better fighter then that person.....
Let Williams get a few wins under his belt over some top rated fighters that have a resume of their own before we start pulling his chain

I think the loss wil make Cotto a better fighter IMO....He is still one of the best in the sport....Cotto needs to make the defense adjustment....nothing more nothing less...I look forward to his return
Re: When will it ever stop? Just give the man his due...
respect to both cotto and margarito. i honestly thought cotto would win that fight. everything cotto landed seemed to bounce of margarito. cotto will come again definitely though. yep I agree give margarito his due
