They are not getting paid, they are there to represent there country.
To me Olympic boxing is like the Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard university of the noble art. If you can make it there you can make it anywhere You only need to look at past Olympics champions and past fighters that done well at the Olympics and then seeing how they fared in the pro ranks to realise that Olympic boxing is a brilliant starting point for any pro fighter.
I think this scoring system is the best out there rather than the old cloak and dagger (Hands in the cards at the end) scoring system of the past. With this system you ACTUALLY get to see what's going on. Besides when we are old and grey and you have your grand kids next to you, what do you think they would be more impressd by ? You telling them that you were a world boxing champion (But got beat later) or if you got your gold medal out and told them that you won this in the Bejing Olympics in 2008.
So what happened with Audley Harrison?

Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Guys just sit down a minute and think. Why is the scoring method in olympic boxing so bad?? The answer is so easy.
The Olympic commitee could not trust the judges they assigned to render an honest, unbiased decision. Now isnt that a sad reflection of the world situation.
Whoever came up with the system used today must have spent all night at some bar first Its LUDICROUS!!!!!!!!
This all started with the horrendous decision loss handed to Roy Jones jr BUT If you look at Jones career the loss of olympic gold actually helped him. The whole world was behind him. PLus it gave him an excuse he used to the max all through his career .
I wont fight abroad I might get robbed again

Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Just my opinion but oympic boxing is horrible it is far from showing who the best boxer is basically it the best tapper and runner. Most landing punches don't get counted and it is almost a bad thing if you are a puncher and actually attmept to hurt your opponet cause it's the tapper runner who wins not the best boxer. I am forced to keep up with is cause of my love for the sport and because when ever it's on i get a million calls tellin me so.......

It's all up to Wilder now. Good God.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
A friend of mine who lives in Thailand sent me this: "It seems that the Americans aren't the only ones complaining about the deplorable scoring system for Olympic Amateur Boxing. Today, the Thais are bitching non-stop. I saw the fight as I'm sure many others around the world have -the one between a Mongolian boxer and a Thai. During the final round I saw the Thai land about 2-3 clear headshots that were not counted and that probably would have gained him the victory. Now the Thai boxing coach is fuming at how the fight was scored, which saw his boxer lose 5-2 to the Mongolian. Challenging the five judges in the end, the coach stated that in tallying up the final scores for the bout two judges favored the Thai fighter, two favored the Mongolian, and one had them both even in points scoreed, so the fight should have been declared a draw....The boxing coach is alleging(and I'm quoting from the newspaper) " Three unamed traitors, Thai nationals in Bangkok and Beijing, have exploited the bias of these judges by making sure they would officiate Thai fights." My point in this post is this: The Americans aren't the only ones bitching about the Olympic scoring system. Other nations are too. Olympic Boxing has now become a joke. And this bias, unfair, totally idiotic scoring system has got to change. It's more corrupt than the scoring system it replaced. Sorry for the long post. Peace."
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
The scorring has been poor, especialy to the body.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
As poor as the scoring has been, the level of skill has been far worse.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Admission here.........I did not watch any boxing at the Olympics. Not one bout. Was never on when I was awake and besides, they should start calling it a Hybrid form of fencing from what I remember.Every 4 years it just seems so much more watered down and micro managed.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Back when the Spinks brothers were participating, they engaged in all out wars with the Cubans. These were brawls bug time. No head gear and no pitty-pat crap. When you compare that to today's garbage, it's bile inducing.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
So Ive finally managed to catch a couple and am watching the Lt. Heavys right now
This is absolute garbage concerning the Judges and system, just horrible. It is almost literal fencing.Record it and rewatch in slo-mo,Easily these guys are into the double didgets with landed punches but it seems the scoring system rewards preservation and avoidence in general as a way to capture victory. No Jabs are scored,no body work.
How many very telented future prospects will sit out 2012,Maybe it's not such a bad idea as they can put all of there time & focus into other avenues?
OHH LOL.....Just noticed Francisco Damiani is one of the coaches in the Italian Heavyweight Class,Remember him outboxing Ray Mercer over an entire fight and then getting stopped with one single pin point uppercut that broke his nose ,he was done and a bloddy mess :fight:
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Bite my tounge,An actual KO for the Italian Cammarelie on one right hand in the 4th round.Bring your own judges Lol.Damiani jumping off the ring Apron all excited ;D
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Amazing isn't it body punches , a big part of a professional's arsenal are not counted:confused: How can the give the same 2 point deduction when the two offences in yesterday's middleweight final were a bite and holding:confused:
