Re: Yea another Tyson thread..
Iron Mike is the reason I got into boxing. I've always thought firing Kevin Rooney was the beginning of the end for him. The "Pre-Robin Givens Mike" is still the best fighter I've ever seen. Speed, power, defense, and technical boxing ability. Back then he was still an amazing boxer and was tough to hit.

Re: Yea another Tyson thread..
Tyson got me into boxing like many here, but he was always beatable, even in his absolute prime.
He was an awesome fighter to watch though, amazing speed and power. I can't think of another Heavy who punched like Mike, so compact and powerful every punch hurt you.

He was a pressure fighter: pressure fighters burn out early(dempsey, frazier and Marciano all retired in their early 30's). Tyson's style was not the style of an older fighter.
How can you say Tyson's name in the same sentence as Frazier? He retired after being beat 4 times twice off 2 men. Who were they? Ali and Foreman. Frazier beat everyone else and a lot more world class fighters than Tyson ever did. In fact every time Tyson fought a world class fighter (3 times Holy twice and Lennox) he got his ass kicked.
WTF are you talking about? I only mentioned Fraizer because he is a pressure fighter, like Tyson was.
Of course Frazier has a much better resume then Tyson.
So that would imply that guys like Ellis, Bonavena, Quarry, and Bugner were much better than the guys Tyson beat?

Well, to Frazier's credit, he did beat Ali the first time.

Very true. I'm not sure 1 out of 3 against Ali in and of itself is evidence of a better resume, but I guess it should be at least considered.

Granted, he beat Ali after a 3 year layoff, but that's still a better win on paper than Iron Mike has on his resume. That being said, I still think Mike woulda whooped Smokin' Joe in both their primes ;D

;D In which case you'd also have to say that Tyson would whoop the Ali that faced Frazier for the first time. This all starts to get a little weird. But yeah, If I was a betting man, my money would be on Tyson over Frazier also.
My whole point is that it ain't quite so "obvious" that Frazier's resume is much better than Tyson's.
Re: Yea another Tyson thread..
Mike Tyson would lose to any all-time great minus maybe Larry Holmes and Floyd Patterson

No Lyle he would whoop most of the older fighters like Jack Dempsey and ETC, they were simply too small and there old style of fighting. Wouldn't work in the modern era, and minus Larry Holmes ? are you kidding me ?
On his best night he is probably the 3rd best Heavyweight ever. He would have certainly beaten Mike Tyson, he had an amazing jab, great chin, great heart, great stamina, and excellent boxing skills.

I don't know about that Joe Frazier is underrated at times in mythical match ups. He just simply was never the same after that brutal 1st encounter with Muhammad Ali, but that verion of Joe Frazier was a beast. Non stop aggression with non stop body punching, and a hell of a chin and determination.
Mike Tyson could maybe KO Joe Frazier early, because Joe Frazier starts like a turtle. He was always a slow starter which would give a fast starter like Mike Tyson a chance, but theres also flip side that Joe Frazier survives the early onslaught, and wears Mike Tyson down with his body punching. And dishearten's Mike Tyson stopping him late on.

Frazier would get beat like Foreman beat him, knock the proper snot out of him, Tyson was the rich man version of frazier minus the mental facilities

George Foreman is nothing like Mike Tyson at all, George Foreman threw wide hooks/wide uppercuts. Catching Joe Frazier's bobbing/weaving style with unorthodox shots.
Muhammad Ali threw mostly straight shows hence why, Muhammad Ali was nowhere near as effective as George Foreman was. Mike Tyson is a short compact puncher.
He starts fast and is very explosive, but Mike Tyson's style as i said is nothing like George Foreman. And he would be nowhere as effective as George Foreman was, he may put Joe Frazier away within 4 rounds.
Because Joe Frazier took time to warm up, but if Joe Frazier got knocked down early. Which i could see happening i can see Joe Frazier, getting warmed up very quickly. The real question is can Joe Frazier last the early onslaught.
Because Mike Tyson even in his prime didn't have many KO's in the 2nd half of a fight. And he often got frustrated when he couldn't put a fighter away, Jose Ribalta comes to mind as being a journeyman fighter. Who took most of Mike Tyson's shots and stood toe to toe with Mike Tyson, and gave him some awkward tough rounds.
And Mike Tyson in the last few rounds got frustrated and started looking sloppy, now the question is if Joe Frazier got into the 2nd half of the fight. Would Mike Tyson get disheartned and lose his concentration ? because i think he would. Joe Frazier feared no man so that would take a big advantage away from Mike Tyson straight away.
But as i said it all depends but IMO the fight only goes two ways, and thats Mike Tyson by early KO. Or Joe Frazier by late TKO you would either get a tough grueling slugest for 11 rounds or so, or you would either get a quick Mike Tyson blow out win inside of 4 rounds.

I thought Man On Fire was pretty decent except for some of the weird flashing stuff. In the movie which was a bit off putting, but overall not a bad flick.
