tbh I just find it pretentious when people rabbit on about alternative music and basically flat out refuse to give anything else a chance... simply because it might appeal to a wide audience.

Honestly lads... being open to a bit of Urban Music and liking Sound Garden or Audioslave won't magically turn you into a sheeple.

This thread really needs to be moved.

It is equally pretentious to assume that just because someone finds what Chris Cornell is doing to be distasteful that same person doesn't like a wide variety of music and/or won't give any other types a chance. I listen to plenty of what could be described as "urban music" (though Timbaland primarily produces lame as shit pop music in my opinion), and I don't really listen to a lot of Soundgarden-type stuff anymore. I like music from pretty much every genre imaginable, yet I still think what Cornell is doing is unimpressive.

Like I said before, I have no problem with other people liking it, but I can't stand it.

Don't just throw the word pretentious around. ;)

It wouldn't be pretentious... it would be presumptuous.

Except it's a pretty fair assumption to make seeing as people are flat out writing the album off despite the fact that it hasn't even been released yet. I'd class that as the very definition of not giving something a chance.

I've listened to a half-dozen songs off the album, and it's fucking atrocious. Other people might like it, and that's fine, but I do not and I feel my reasons are valid.
