Re: Jeff Lacy vs. Otis Griffin result
Wow, I knew he didn't have much but Otis Griffin, even with how he's been struggling I thought he'd stop Otis.
Re: Jeff Lacy vs. Otis Griffin result
Looks like Lacy is truly done...I heard he´s set up his own promotional company. He should stick to that instead of fighting.

same here, i said it on another thread that even if Lacy is 1/3 the fighter he once was he should KO Griffin within 6 rnds, and then he barely goes on to beat him? i think Lacy can be competitive in little meaningless fights like this one, but he'll never be a serious competitor when it comes to world titles anymore, i say let him make some money as long as he doesn't get hurt, but was reported he had both eyes badly swollen, and if that's the case against Griffin i think he should retire
Re: Jeff Lacy vs. Otis Griffin result
Didn't Jesse Brinkley knock out Otis Griffin with ease last year?
I guess Brinkley vs Lacy could be a possibility with a shot at Joey Spina for the winner.
Lacy is truly done it seems, sad as I always admired his heart and courage.
This may bode well for the Froch fight though, I'm hoping Carl puts a beating on Jermain Taylor and makes himself a big name stateside. If Lacy truly is a shell and took Taylor 12 rounds this has to be good for Froch.
Re: Jeff Lacy vs. Otis Griffin result
Most of us would agree that what Calzaghe did could leave any fighter questioning himself, but does anyone think it might be more than that? What I mean is, brain damage. Maybe not to an extreme like the GMan, but still enough to affect his performance as a fighter?
The reason I mention this, is because of seeing more than a few fights where the fighter either wasn't the same after, or died. I personally think it's possible Jeff had one of them nights where his head got rattled a little more than it should of been allowed to and it is showing.
Re: Jeff Lacy vs. Otis Griffin result
Hey Guys you need to take a few things into consideration. Oscars the next great was a low standard competition but it was guys who had under 10 pro fights, so it was never going to be world class fighters. Otis was a professional NFL footballer who had 9 am fights before making his pro debut on the show, He learned the game as he went along, he won the show and then did pretty well in his career to go on to win the NABO title.
He then took on Danny Green on at 4 days notice flying 23 hours out to Austrailia (Crazy) and if you actually watch the fight Otis got hit on the back of the head, he went down and complained tot he ref, in a neutral area it would not have been a knock down, then Danny piled on him and bundled him over twice more and was subject to the 3 knock down rule. I am not saying he would have won but he was not knocked out.
Jesse Brinkley he boiled himself down to 165lbs a weight that if you look at his picture he is a big boy, he actually walked into the ring at 166lbs as he had made himself ill. He struggled through and was eventually stopped in the 11th round after not being knocked down but the ref obviously sensed something was wrong, he was then rushed to hospital on the verge of a heart attack as his pottasium and sodium levels were dangerously low.
Then came the crazy fight in Germany with a guy by the time they stepped in the ring was over 30lbs heavier than him he boxed and moved but the guy caught up with him in the 3rd and he was knocked down and stopped.
The he came to me, I see ability in him and think with the right guidence can do well. We took the lacy fight at short notice but knew Lacy was not the Lacy of old. It was in Lacy's home town and on a Lacy promotions so we knew we would have to win big. Otis worked really hard, was in great shape obviously there is still a lot of work to do with the kid but he put on a great show. Lacy is not the fighter he once was but he is still a good fighter, to say he is a joke etc is crazy, he is a tough kid and hits hard and has a big heart. You look at his loses Joe Calzaghe who has taken apart many great fighters, and Jermain Taylor more recently who holds wins of BHop which is not something many can brag about.
Lacy came in fit and put up a good fight but Otis was better and hit Lacy with some big shots, and bullied the smaller guy. The florida commission agrred that Griffin should have won the fight, nevertheless it is what is and he got robbed. To say he is a bum is as big a joke as when I took over the training of Yusaf Mack last january and to be honest most of the guys on here were quick to slate Barron for promoting his guy and how Yusaf was a bum and didn't train and all that stuff, now he is in line for one of the major belts and holding wins over some decent guys the opinions have changed.
I turned Yusaf around and I will be turning Otis around, he is back in camp 26th April and in the next year you will see him up there and beating the best mark my words.

Thanks for the insight. Good luck with both fighters in the future.

Not true. I always thought pretty highly of Mack. I just stated the truth. He had stamina issues and his chin looked to be on the weak side. Things that at time were true
Re: Jeff Lacy vs. Otis Griffin result
Hey I am not pointing fingers but i read this site and that seemed to be the general feel, it seems to have turned around now which is cool, I am just saying watch out for Otis, i have seen some of his fights too and agree he looked pretty crappy in most of them, however he works hard and listens well, he is coming off his best performance and there is a ton more to come. To say he is garbage from seeing him once is a little harsh

maybe i am being a bit too harsh, but like i said what i have seen of him hasn't been that good, and in no way am i trying to discredit you with your work with him or Mack, just not really sold on him and don't think that a close loss against the Lacy of today really is enough proof to say he's turned his career completely around, i'll be fair and just wait till i see when he takes on someone with a bit more left than Lacy
