Maybe his nickname refers to his own state rather than that of his opponents?

He's calls himself that as they were his 4 favourite fighters growing up thus his inspiration to start boxing. He's not being cocky or anything when he says that.

Michael "Second to" Nunn. More of a play on words than an actual nickname.
Humberto "La Chiquita" Gonzalez. FYI, Chiquita translates into little girl. :rotflmao:
Andre "The All Terrain Fighter" Ward.
Owen "What the Heck" Beck.
Steve "Two Pound" Forbes.
I had a boxing trainer, Joe Byrd, the father of Chris Bryd, whose name was "Toy Block" The newspapers gave him that name, although I never figured that one out.
I beg to differ with Mayorga's nickname not being appropriate.
"El Matador" means "The killer" in Spanish.
And I would have to say that fit Ricarod Mayorga and his wild aggressive brawling style in his prime pretty well.
Re: Most innapropriate nick names for fighters
Marcus "Big Tuna" Rhode. He certainly has been canned enough to warrant this nickname.
Re: Most innapropriate nick names for fighters
Well you have to admit that Jermain Taylor at least has bad intentions for 80% of the fight.
How about Bernard "the Exectioner" Hopkins. I don't think that he really executes. The only people he puts to sleep are the fans. He gets all the high profile fights and just escapes with a win/loss. Is the last person he KOed DLH?
Carl Froch should be "the Mule" rather than "the Cobra". I recall cobras being fast.

That's true. When he first went into Fitzroy Lodge, like many of us who go in first time, he got little help, so he learnt to box, by watching old fights of Leonard, Robinson, Ali & RJJ. He uses the nickname as a way of honouring what he learnt off them. But given the way Anthony is, people do take it as arrogance, which in this case it isn't
