Re: Rocky Marciano: a schiester?
Read the posts above about generational prejudice and relativity. Of course a cruiser or light heavy could not beat a guy who out weighed him by 40 pounds of was 6'5''.
And btw, DUDE, I could care less what "crap" your are concerned with. I don't do hate; I do boxing.
:pissing:

LaStarza, Savold, Vingo, Layne, etc :banghead::banghead: aargh. Today, he would be fighting as a light heavy or cruiser and that's where the copmarisons should be made based on relativity, IMO. Otherwise, we engage in generational prejudice. He beat all 49 who were put in front oof him. Surley, that does not warrant the degree of hostility of some of the posts.
Plus ten!!! if he was a full sized heavy weight it would have been a completely different story. He should be compared to light heavies and cruisers as you said.

Why people throw the word GREATEST HEAVYWEIGHT OF ALL TIME around.. He wasnt, Ali, Louis, Holmes, Lewis, Tyson etc were all better

well with Louis Marciano knocked him out. So even if they fought earlier Louis was out boxed by Billy conn and down against Jimmy Braddock. I think marciano had a punchers chance with him. I don't know if Louis belongs in that list. if the larry holmes of 1982 fought the Tyson of 1988 Holmes would be the victor. I'm not really sure who the greatest heavyweight of all time was. I think it is era relevant. Marciano was the greatest of his day no doubt. There is no bigger fan of the Cus d'amato school of boxing than me. However, Tyson was good when the guy was standing right in front of him and scared of him. Joe Frazier, that was a warrior. A prime George foreman with a 45 year old foremans heart was another guy that would be extremely hard to beat.

I have started a new thread on this. See above

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...all you Marciano haters are missing the fact that he retired undefeated as Heavyweight champion.
Now where is your undefeated Heavyweight, woulda, shoulda, coulda?

Nevermind, there is no cure for nuthuggeritis:rolleyes:
Re: Rocky Marciano: a schiester?
I never understood the whole "he retired undefeated, so therefore he's the greatest" thing. Going 49-0, even if it wasn't against great compedition, is impressive as hell.
But does that mean Sven Ottke is one of the best of all time? If Valuev would have retired after beating McCline, with a comparable record of 46-0 and 14 years of boxing under his belt, would he be considered even in the top 20 of all time?

Agreed.
If you have :action: German blood then Spen Okkte is the best in the world.
If you have an Italian background :gossip: "ehhh A Marciano" was the best heavweight....fuk youse!
if you are Welsh :sheep: some bloke from down there is undefeated too :-) .
They are all top champions who went a real long way in the sport whatever the circumstances are, respect for all of them.
Its usually only other peoples national pride or love of another boxer getting in the way of history; pulling strips off these fighters or building them up even further than they deserve, its two sides of the same coin.
