Naz quyit because he had no reason to fight anymore and was a bit embaressed by the loss
Naz quit because he became lazy and had no hunger other than the hunger for a big mac or two.
Naz was slipping from the Tom Johnson fight onwards, he just didnt put the time in the gym, and when Barerra beat him like you said he didnt think it was worth it to try again without that hunger and determination he would of been embarresed again.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
David Reid his eye got seriously messed up after fighting Triniadad, and he was never the same he was 27.
Jeff Lacy he got schooled by Joe Calzaghe got injured and has never been the same, he was 29.
I don't think Danny Romero was ever the same after his first loss or his loss to Johnny Tapia he was maybe 23 at that time.

Was thinking Tyson at first but he may fall into that 'not what he once was' category as opposed to fully shot.He was still winning straps, unifying and yet to fight Holyfield. At that time very few if any were giving Evander a chance, openly fearing for his health, saying he was on the fast down slide.Good call on Saad. His candle burned at both ends with the Lopez,Johnson among others wars.Sad the way he went out, hanging on for so long as a stepping stone 'name'.

Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
I was going to post Tyson but he won titles AND was at least top 5 after 1990, he wasn't really shot until he was 30 when he lost to Holyfield twice and even then he was still able to win a title here and there.
There have been any number of heavyweights other than Tyson who were "shot" before the end of their 20's:
Domminick Guinn - 29 when he lost to Monte Barrett, never recovered
John Tate - 25 when he lost to Mike Weaver, never recovered
Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock - wasn't the same after the 2nd loss to Mike Tyson at age 28
Joe Mesi - he just misses the cut having only just turned 30 when he squeaked by Monte Barrett, he wasn't the same after that either.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
Yeah Mike Tyson wasn't shot in his 20s he wasn't as good after he lost to Buster Douglas, hell in fact he only lost 1 fight until he met Holyfield in '96 at 30 years old. So I don't know about Tyson being shot. More like underachiever.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
George Foreman. If he wasn't shot after Ali, then it was just a case of Ali destroying the myth.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
Eddie Cook....thought this one would be something lasting.Burned like a meteor
Humberto Gonzalez....not 'shot' in war with Sorjaturong, gave and took.Just think it all caught up and career was a wrap at 29
The Ruelas Brothers.......Jeff Fenech. The 'comeback' Nelson event aside.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
Enzo Maccarinelli and Mike Tyson come to mind

Agree. Hamed was more of a quitter than a shot fighter

Nope, lame from the gate. His career starting going downhill after he punched himself in the face.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
Ricky Hatton is 30 now isn't he? I think we may look back on this forum and agree the best is way past him.
Zab Judah is a shadow of himself at 23 years old!
Thought Mancini had some trouble after killing that one guy in the ring. He was only in his mid 20's... Kind of shot.. mentally anyway.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
Lots of Kronk fighters were shot while in their 20's if you catch my drift....:deadnew:

We could probably say that about lots of fighters that received a few sound thrashings in their 20's. It takes a bit out of you.
Re: Fighters that were shot in their 20s
Wilfred Benitez.Wonder if things are any better for him nowadays?
