Oh please ::** Hatton was cool because the crowd was a novelty but boxing is fine without him. Also, there were boxers with muuuuuch larger followings in the past they just couldn't travel with their fighter, the times wouldn't allow it. Even so, hundreds traveled by rail to watch Joe Louis' pro debut and people grabbed onto absolutely anything he or Dempsey ever did in their lives.
Man if only Hatton would come back
....then we could see more of this

;D
i am so bored of all hatton chanting & shit, it got old very very quickly
wow, nice vids, fans support is great, i was at a M.Cotto fight at MSG, also had alot of fans there , nice crowd
Hatton did have one hell of a fanbase.
It's a shame most of them knew fuck all about boxing and were mostly chavvy pissheads.
To be fair; Modern money has devalued, air travel has now come into the reach of not only the middle class but many of the lower earners can afford to fly once a year.
Back in the day 60's you could buy a double storey house for 3000 pounds in sth London much less in Manchester, nothings is relevant anymore over time, other than the number of fans.
and that accounts as having any knowledge in the sport of boxing?!?
by the way what Puerto Rican says essay :-X you're full of shit hammer go back to your fantasies of Ricky Hatton washing up on the beach like the beached whale he is and you can play the role of his savior, you twat
Some peoples like Ali and Foreman did drag possibly even bigger crowd, Golota in his good years was dragging quite an audience too so I disagree that Hatton had the biggest crowd or was unique for such. Still, I will give something to the Hatton's fans: You really gave a lesson to any other crowds about togetherness, noise and how to drag ambiance in, something I've personally never seen. I did show my brother who's not a boxing fan at all the Mayweather-Hatton fight and he was staggered when I told him that the fight was in the US and not the UK and he stated that he understands now how insane the englanders were and why they often mock the ambiance in our stadiums over here.
Mate i think that is the most ridiculous statement on this thread !!
I was was in Vegas for Rickys 1st, 3rd and 4th Vegas fights and did not see one incident when Brits, sorry Hatton fans throwing tables or chairs or any other item around.
Granted you have your opinion, but i can catagorically say no incidents occured that I witnessed, so tarring us with that brush is simply small minded !
Haugen / Chavez 1993
Chavez brought in over 132k people to a fight..............PAYING fans
[/thread]
Didnt travel thousands of miles and pay thousands upon thousands of pounds to watch it though did they?
That would kind of be like saying hull citys 28,000 fans that attend when they play at home every week are as passionate as the 30,000 that swap continents every time hatton fights!!
I do understand what dizaster is saying in that economic changes over the years makes it much more viable for middle/working class familys to fly thousands of miles.
But seriously, would america have brought over 30,000 when ali fought cooper? would panamanians of completely taken over vegas in there tens of thousands when he fought hagler? and how many fans exactly did lennox lewis take over to vegas with him when he fought for the undisputed heavyweight championship (6500)
You can hate the man, you can hate his fans, you can hate his lifestyle and whatever he represents. But stats dont lie do they!!
