ANOTHER overrated Brit
RJJ post 2003 was not a top level fighter....Bernard Hopkins may never have had the best style to beat Calzaghe but at 43 he damn near beat Calzaghe.
And if Roy still had ANY power left over Calzaghe would have been stopped in 1 despite Roy's chin being shot.
Calazghe was 36 and his chin was 'Shot' too ;)

Lacy - unbeaten, no.2 Ring rated, IBF champion when Calzaghe slaughtered him. He was not the exposed guy you falsely claim him to be. Fact.
Kessler - unbeaten, no.1 Ring rated, WBC/WBA champion when Calzaghe schooled him. He was not the guy with a loss to Andre Ward. Fact.
Hopkins - P4P no.3, Linear/Ring lightheavyweight champion when Calzaghe beat him. Fact.
Roy - past his pomp legend. Fact. Here's something interesting though, 36% of Saddo voters picked Jones to win - including a certain Mr Tysonbruno and Dark Lord Al. Fact.

Haters.. I've shit em. ;)
wouldn't read to much in to that poll as i always go against Calzaghe ;)
Exactly.
Unfortunately for you Calzaghe always won though, so basically butt fucked you his whole career ;D
To a certain degree yes lol;D as i watched every fight just waiting for him to lose but deep down i was thinking he wouldn't because the opposition was never good enough and as for jeff Lacy he had trouble with Omar Sheika and Vitali Tyspko or whatever he was called so i dont think Calzaghe ruined him just don't think he had it ever. I thought his win over Scott Pembleton was good then Peter Manfredo does the same so that tarnished that Calzaghe has been a right fight at right time career for me and thats why he is 46-0 even though i believe he should be 44-2 Hopkins and Reid beat him.

Mikkel Kessler
I thought was a good win till Andre Ward did alot better job.
Bernard Hopkins
Who i thought won as do many others.
Roy Jones
Well Danny Green proved how shot Roy was and lets bare in mind Roy dropped Calzaghe heavy in the 1st round.
Thing is with Calzaghe he came along at the right or wrong time Eubank,Benn and Collins were past it or retired Jones and Toney had out grown the Super middleweight division and no matter how many times Calzaghe said he struggled at the weight mainly after boring points wins he never moved up till it was to late and against old fighters past there best.
He pulled out of good fights or didnt sign for whatever reason even Frank Warren has said this about him that he pulled out of about 10 fights he lined him up. Like Antwun Echols, Syd Vanderpool, Glen Johnson and many more.
I think the 46-0 blinds a lot of people come on shoot me down. ;);D
Well, he forearm smashed him. Plus the Green fight just shows you what can happen when you get hit on the top of the head/back of the head.
Calzaghe actually boxed Kessler, rather than butted him silly
You could also argue that Calzaghe completely ruined Lacy. Sure he was hyped, but the majority of his fights post Calzaghe, he had to deal with a bad rotator cuff injury. That injury coupled with the fact you've lost your air of invincibility also badly effects a fighter.
Hopkins also showed how good he is given the fact 2 of his most impressive wins came either side of the Calzaghe fight. I had Calzaghe winning the fight.
I'm not saying he's the 2nd coming or anything, but the shite he gets on here is unreal at times.
I'm the same don't think he's a legend, but certainly one of the best of his era and earned the right to be first ballot canastota.
retrospectively tarnishing his opponents is bollocks, does Duane Thomas and Terry Norris surpass Marvin H for doing better jobs on ~Mugabe and Leanard respectively?
The guy beat everyone he ever fought
Re: Joe Calzaghe haters lets do some irrational hating
FENSTER i wouldnt , no couldnt ever back Calzaghe in any fight.
Id back you FENSTER if you fought Joke Calzaghe.;D
Re: Joe Calzaghe haters lets do some irrational hating
Joe has only himself to blame for this thread. He could have and should have done more between Eubanks and Lacy. Ottke was a joke ready for the taking.

Excellent summary TysonBruno and also Lyle hit the nail on the head.
FUCK JC (is that irrational enough, Fenster? ;) )
Re: Joe Calzaghe haters lets do some irrational hating
Calzaghe refusing to go into Germany and rid the world of Sven Ottke is one of the most cowardice moves ever by a Boxer

But Sven Ottke was what he was. Think about it.
Some could argue that Robin Reid made the worst move of his career by fighting in Ottke in Germany ;)

Ottke's trainer and promoter (in Boxing Monthly) have BOTH said he wanted nothing to do with fighting Calzaghe even in Germany. ;)

Re: Joe Calzaghe haters lets do some irrational hating

If Ottke, Calzaghe, or Michalczweski had the stones to come to the US to fight RJJ in the late 90's early 2000's then they would have had the shit beaten right out of them and hell even OLD Roy and OLD Hopkins gave a PRIME Joe Calzaghe trouble.
It must be a hollow feeling being "the best" just because you never dared to take a live challenge....oh well, I'm sure this will just go down as me hating on the Brits but like I give a fuck ;)
Calzaghe was extremely talented but he never tested himself....I don't mean to seem 100% one sided but it kind of pisses me off when he had the chance to fight RJJ and Hopkins at various points in his career and never did it until late and RJJ and Hopkins piss me off because they had chances to take on bigger fish but waited too long too, although Roy did fight better competition than Hopkins and Hopkins fought better competition than Calzaghe.
F**k me, he beat everyone put in front of him.
You keep saying he waited till Jones and hopkins were too old, Joe was only 3-4 years younger, all thats doing is making excuces for Roy and the like. Much like people do with muhummad ali late in his career, getting beaten by allcomers. If Roy jones and the other boys were too old, then they shouldn't of gotten in the ring.
NO EXCUSES!!!!!
big Joe is the man, undefeated man that is
Thats most peoples point! Yes, he did beat everyone put in front of him because he picked and chose his opponents. He pulled out of god knows how many fights that ive lost count. He never pulled out of fights against bums i noticed.

I agree. As far as British champs go, I'd pick Calzaghe as one of the better ones. I would've loved to see Calzaghe test himself in facing a young Jones or even a younger BHop. The narrow victory over a 43 year old Hopkins just wasn't enough to prove to me that hes a "living legend". Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I think he may have even had the potential to be named among the ATGs, but he just never proved it. Yes he beat everyone that he faced, but it's the quality of opposition and the performances that you put on, not just the win on your record. If Julio Caesar Chavez Jr retired today with his undefeated record, would you call him a "living legend"?
Re: Joe Calzaghe haters lets do some irrational hating
Interesting how Joe gets accused of ''Pulling out'' all the time.

So Hopkins is a bum.
Glen Johnson is what?
